Episode 170: An Unexpected Survival Life 38
When we arrived at the training grounds, the place had already transformed into a battlefield. Clouds of sand and dust were swirling in the air.
“Ahahaha! You’re getting stronger!”
“That smug attitude is so frustrating!”
…Frustrating, huh? Yuria, you just want to hit me, don’t you?
Anyway, on the training grounds, Yuria darted around. She was attacking from the blind spots of the Knight Commander. However, he deflected every attack with ease, all while laughing heartily.
It was a scene reminiscent of what I’d seen before. But Yuria’s speed had clearly improved since last time. Still, it seemed that the Knight Commander wasn’t struggling in the least.
Out of curiosity, I decided to Appraise him. Oh… I see. No wonder Yuria can’t match him.
“The Knight Commander is not only an advanced-class but also at a high level, isn’t he?”
“Level 45, the strongest knight in the Adelreed Kingdom.”
Every stat except Luck was far superior. No matter how much Yuria tried to confuse him with speed, her movements were probably as clear as day to the Knight Commander.
As a result, her attacks were deflected, blocked—or outright countered.
“There!”
“Uwaaah!? Eek!”
He matched her strike with a counter from behind. Without even turning to look, he swung his wooden sword backward, landing a clean hit on Yuria and sending her flying.
Though Yuria got back on her feet quickly, she raised her hands in surrender. She likely realized she was out of options.
“You’ve improved quite a bit!”
“You’re just too strong, Commander!”
“Well, if I weren’t, I wouldn’t be the Knight Commander! Ahahaha!”
The knights around them roared with laughter at their exchange.
Well, the Knight Commander *is* a bit of a musclehead. Even if Yuria weren’t here, I’m sure their training would still have this lively atmosphere.
It’s a comfortable place, in a way.
“Oh? Maki-san… Wait, what!? Your Majesty, and Dietrich-sama too?”
Apparently, Alicia had been observing the sparring with the knights. She hadn’t noticed our presence until now.
The others seemed equally unaware, as they hurriedly turned to face the king and dropped to one knee.
“At ease. Raise your heads. Today, I’m borrowing the training grounds for a bit. Is that all right, Knight Commander Vigul?”
“Of course, Your Majesty!”
Oh, wow. The Knight Commander doesn’t change his demeanor much, even in front of the king. Well, at least he took a knee—so he’s capable of showing some respect.
Once the training grounds were cleared by the knights, the king nodded and directed his gaze toward Sunny and Dietrich-sama.
“Well then, shall we begin?”
“…As you wish.”
“Pikyah!”
The knights were surprised to see Dietrich-sama step forward. But they were even more shocked when Sunny entered the training grounds.
I could hear murmurs of “Isn’t that a magical beast?” from various directions. Well, they aren’t wrong, so I didn’t bother correcting them.
“This is Sunny, a magical beast under Mihiro’s command. Today, we’ll conduct a mock battle between Sunny and Dietrich to assess the capabilities of his companion.”
“Oh! To think this magical beast can go head-to-head with Dietrich-sama! …Darn, I wish I could be the one fighting it!”
Yeah, called it. But no, you’re not getting a turn.
“The match ends when one side either surrenders or is rendered unable to fight. …By the way, Mihiro. Will Sunny surrender if needed?”
“Ah… Not sure. But I think it’ll work out somehow.”
“…Dietrich, does that work for you?”
“………Yes.”
Ah, that was definitely a response laced with resignation.
Still, with the king personally arranging this mock battle, there wasn’t much room for complaint.
Considering Sunny’s stats outclass Dietrich-sama’s in every area except Magic, I’m genuinely optimistic it’ll be fine.
“Since this is a proper match, I’ll give it my all.”
“Pikyakya—!”
That said, Dietrich-sama isn’t just the chancellor; he also holds the special-class profession of Sage.
When I think about that, I can’t help but feel a bit excited to see what happens.
“Let the match begin! Mock battle—start!”
At the king’s signal, the man and the beast moved simultaneously.
