Episode 178: An Unexpected Survival Life 45
The next morning. Yuria barged into my room the moment I woke up.
“Get ready and let’s head out! Right now! Hurry, hurry!”
“…Ah, okay.”
Her energy left me stunned, and I completely forgot about my bedhead as I scrambled to get ready. By the time I reached the dining hall, everyone was already seated, eating their breakfast.
Looking closely, though, everyone was eating much faster than usual. And no one was talking.
Normally, there would be some kind of chatter—today, it would make sense to talk about the land with the shifting climate, for instance.
“Don’t just stand there! Hurry up and eat!”
“Ah, sorry! I’m on it.”
Yuria was helping serve the food. As she shouted at me, I hurried to sit down. She set the plate she was holding right in front of me.
The meal… well, it looked like the usual. Which meant Alicia had prepared it, as usual.
But why was everyone in such a rush?
“Eat quickly! If you don’t, we’ll arrive late at that place!”
“Uh, that place? …Wait, do you mean the land with shifting climates?”
“Where else would I mean? Now eat already!”
“Y-yes, ma’am.”
What was this… this commanding aura from Yuria that I couldn’t resist?
As I ate, I glanced around. Everyone else seemed to be feeling the same way. They occasionally sneaked nervous glances at Yuria while quietly eating.
Clearly, the unusual atmosphere at the table was Yuria’s doing.
But why was she so eager to reach the land with shifting climates?
“……Hey, Madoka? Why is Yuria so—”
“Eat faster!”
“Y-yes! I’m sorry!”
…….Fine. I’ll just eat. Let’s get this over with.
After finishing breakfast in complete silence—a rarity for us—we headed to the inn town. Without a moment’s rest, we set off running toward the land with shifting climates.
We arrived. It didn’t even take us two hours.
“…We made it faster than yesterday.”
“…Yeah, we did.”
Arata and Madoka whispered to each other, but I couldn’t figure out what the rush was about.
Well, the one who was rushing us was definitely Yuria. She seemed to have evolved into a full-on musclehead.
So… did she just want to fight magical beasts?
“Yuria, are you trying to level up? If that’s the case, I can identify targets for you later—”
“Wrong! That doesn’t matter right now. Just use your Appraisal skill already!”
“…Alright.”
Then why are you in such a hurry?
I wanted to ask, but her intense aura made it clear this wasn’t the time. So, I activated my Appraisal skill.
While I did that, I glanced at Arata and Madoka. But they just smiled awkwardly and didn’t explain anything.
Once my skill had finished, I shared the display screen. Yuria, as if trying to memorize every detail, practically glued herself to the screen. With heavy breaths, she stepped into the land with shifting climates.
“Hey! Don’t go off on your own! There are magical beasts here!”
“It’s fine! I memorized a route that avoids the magical beasts!”
Wait, what? A route like that exists?
And she memorized it from the screen I just shared? I haven’t even looked at it properly yet!
“Mihiro! Give us directions, quickly!”
“Yeah! Let’s follow her!”
“Ah, right! Got it!”
I hurried to locate the route Yuria must have memorized and led Arata as her backup into the treacherous land.
Even on the outskirts, the storm’s effects were intense. Wind and rain were lashing at us. But the moment we entered, the power of the storm grew exponentially.
It became hard to stand upright, lightning fell all around us, and communication was nearly impossible.
If we lost sight of each other, we’d quickly get separated—and likely sink into the bottomless swamp.
“Damn it! Yuria’s fast!”
“Is everyone still together?”
“We’re fine, Maki-sama! Arata-sama!”
At Arata’s call, Ryan-san confirmed their status. Meanwhile, I kept my eyes on Yuria, who was steadily disappearing into the distance.
She moved without hesitation, her confidence unsettling.
While I trusted my Appraisal skill, I couldn’t help but worry about running into magical beasts. After all, they were keeping a wary distance, held back only by the storm.
“Haku! If something happens, don’t worry about us—just save Kondō!”
“Woof!”
“Gregori, I’m counting on you too!”
“…..!”
The two strongest familiars were given their orders, and I returned my focus to the display screen.
The land with shifting climates was vast—it would take over five hours just to traverse it.
The question was whether we could keep up with Yuria’s pace without making a mistake or whether she could stay on the correct path herself.
…..Ah, geez, this is just endless worry!
