Episode 185: An Unexpected Survival Life 52
As Yuria carefully avoided the Poison Dragon’s venom while provoking it, Haku joined the fray.
Haku’s Strength stats slightly exceeded the Poison Dragon’s Madokadurance. It allowed him to inflict damage. However, considering the risk of poison, he prioritized hit-and-run tactics and focused on evasion.
Meanwhile, Sunny attacked from a clear distance. Remarkably, as an Ancient Crystal Dragon, Sunny could exhale breaths of various elements except for dark energy.
It was a surprising discovery, but Sunny’s attacks still lacked power. To avoid vaporizing the liquid poison, Sunny focused on using water or ice breath to dilute or freeze it, combining offense with support.
“GRUUAAAAAAHHHH!”
“Whoa!?”
As the Poison Dragon whipped its massive tail, the tree I was hiding behind splintered and collapsed with a loud crack.
I scrambled to move, barely avoiding being crushed. It seemed the Poison Dragon had noticed my presence.
Damn, I’d hoped to stay unnoticed. How do I completely erase my presence?
“Flash!”
At that moment, Madoka conjured a dazzling light directly in front of the Poison Dragon.
“GRUUUGAAAHHHH!”
Blinded by the intense brightness, the Poison Dragon let out a furious roar.
When I glanced at Madoka, she gave me a knowing nod. She’d understood my intent. Nice one, Madoka!
Stuffing some grapes into my mouth, I darted forward, circling around to the Poison Dragon’s rear.
Even if the dragon could sense my movements, Yuria and Haku kept up their harassment. They were attacking to distract it.
Sunny’s breath targeted the dragon’s unarmored eyes, making things even more troublesome for it.
To add to the chaos, Madoka fired spells that didn’t directly hit but annoyed the dragon enough to keep it agitated.
This is it!
I climbed a nearby tree to get above the dragon, positioning myself directly overhead before leaping down.
“Blade of Severance!”
Having eaten the banana, my Magic stats was now 1200.
The Severing Blade spell used 400 mana to unleash a blade capable of cutting through anything with Endurance under 1000, bypassing the Endurance stats entirely.
However, there was an advanced technique: channeling even more mana into the Blade of Severance.
Using 800 mana, the spell could cut through Endurance under 2000. With 1200 mana, it could sever anything under 3000 Endurance.
Moriya probably hadn’t told me this on purpose, expecting me to figure it out myself and prove my worth by defeating the dragon.
The blade I released was more than twice the size of any I’d cast before. It struck the Poison Dragon’s back dead center.
Its scales, which could supposedly reflect any magic, couldn’t resist the Blade of Severance. The spell sliced through the massive beast’s body as effortlessly as cutting tofu.
Watching from above, I saw the blade continue down, embedding into the ground and carving deep into the earth. A bizarre thought crossed my mind: “What a terrifying magical tool.”
“…….Oh no, I’m falling into the poison!”
Though the Poison Dragon was defeated, its bl00d turned out to be even more toxic than its venom.
If I landed in that pool of bl00d, I’d die instantly.
Just as I braced myself to call for help, I felt a sudden upward pull. Looking up, I saw—
“…Sunny!”
“…Pipi… Pikyaa~!”
Sunny had hooked its claws into my clothes and managed to carry me to a nearby branch.
I hugged it tightly in gratitude, rubbing my cheek against it. Sunny let out a pleased little sound, seemingly not minding the affection.
“Maki! Are you okay?”
“Maki-kun!”
“I’m fine! How’s everyone else?”
“”We’re fine—!””
Looking down, I saw that Haku and Gregori were unharmed as well. Relieved, I finally took a deep breath.
But then, something entirely unexpected struck.
—RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE….
“………What’s that sound?”
A sudden rumbling noise echoed around us, accompanied by tremors in the ground.
Even using Appraisal magic, I couldn’t detect any nearby beasts, nor did anything register as [Unknown].
Was this something unrelated to Moriya? A completely different threat approaching us?
Remaining on guard, I continued observing until—
—SPLAAAASH!
Water began gushing out from the hole carved by the Blade of Severance.
