Episode 190: An Unexpected Survival Life 57
“Appraisal: How Can We Resolve the Cost of Moriya’s Forbidden Magic?”
When I said that, I felt my mana rapidly draining from my body.
I started to feel dizzy. But thanks to the bananas I had eaten, it didn’t seem as severe as the first time, when I experienced mana depletion.
I guess I’m more aware of it now because my mana capacity has increased.
Back then, I fainted without even realizing my mana was running dry.
Everyone’s eyes were on me, and the Appraisal skill took longer than usual. But finally, the results appeared on the display screen.
“What do we have here? …Uh, huh? Seriously?”
“What’s wrong, Maki-kun? If it’s impossible, I’ll give up. So don’t push yourself.”
“No, it’s not that. It’s just… as expected of forbidden magic. It looks like we’ll need some pretty troublesome materials and a huge amount of mana to cancel it out.”
As I explained, I shared the display screen with everyone.
Leaning in to look at the results, everyone wore grim expressions.
“Mana exceeding the total of 6,000 from using forbidden magic? That’s going to be tough, even with bananas, isn’t it?”
“The Lich King’s crown? A regular Lich won’t cut it, huh?”
“What about this one? The Sword Queen’s pendant?”
“What are Homunculus Tears, anyway?”
Madoka, Yuria, Arata, and Sensei all voiced their questions one after another.
The three beasts mentioned in the Appraisal were all special-tier magical beasts. They were opponents we couldn’t easily defeat with our current strength.
Obviously, lower-class or intermediate-class allies like Alicia couldn’t help much, either.
“I didn’t think it’d be easy, but I didn’t expect the requirements to be this tough.”
“…Wait, are these monsters really that difficult to deal with?”
Moriya asked, curious about my comment.
“Well, yeah. They’re special-tier magical beasts, and all of them are nearly level 150. That means they’re even stronger than Haku.”
“That’s true, but…huh? Wait a second, is this, perhaps…”
As Moriya started muttering to himself, the rest of us exchanged puzzled glances.
Then, suddenly, he stood up and left for his room.
After a while, he returned, holding his magic bag.
“What’s up, Moriya?”
“Hey, Maki-kun. About these materials—does it matter if they’re old or new?”
“I don’t think it matters………… Wait, no way!”
You’ve got to be kidding me. His earlier comment wasn’t because he had fought these monsters before, was it?
“I don’t have all of them, but I’ve got everything except one.”
“”””””””””…….WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!””””””””””
Everyone froze in shock at Moriya’s words. Meanwhile, he rattled his bones, laughing softly.
“Why the heck do you have these?!”
“Well, you see, I’ve fought both the Lich King and a Homunculus before!”
Cheerfully answering, Moriya pulled the Lich King’s crown and the Homunculus Tears out of his magic bag and placed them on the table.
“Um, Leyreina-sama? Just how valuable is one of these items?”
“From what I’ve read in books… it’s probably worth about the budget of a small country.”
“……….”
Alicia asked out of curiosity. But after hearing Leyreina-san’s answer, she froze up. The three soldiers were left speechless.
Everyone started wondering what else Moriya’s magic bag contained.
“If I could leave this place, I could get the Sword Queen’s pendant too.”
“Wait a second!”
My Appraisal showed the method to resolve *all* of the cost of Moriya’s forbidden magic.
I started searching the display screen to see if it was possible to resolve just the second cost—soul binding—for now.
“Found it! I found it!”
As expected of the Appraisal skill, it displayed various patterns and solutions.
And it looked like resolving the soul binding wouldn’t be a problem!
“To undo the soul binding, we’ll need over 6,000 magical energy and the Lich King’s crown. But……”
“But what?”
We would need to gather the 6,000 mana from people other than Moriya.
That alone was a big issue, but something even more concerning had appeared.
“…..The second forbidden magic came with the cost of losing all your body except for your bones and becoming immortal, right?”
“That’s right. …Oh! Could it be that my body will return?”
“Yeah. But that’s the problem. To undo the soul binding, that cost will also be lifted. If that happens, your restored body will begin to decay because of the cost of the first forbidden magic.”
The loss of the body and immortality can be undone using the Homunculus Tears.
However, in a situation where the body is already decaying, there likely wouldn’t be enough time to locate and defeat the Sword Queen to obtain the pendant.
“Then for now, we shouldn’t undo it. We’ll defeat the Sword Queen ourselves and get the pendant—”
“It’s fine, just undo it,”
Moriya said, cutting me off and firmly requesting the cancellation.
