Episode 193: An Unexpected Survival Life 60
The silhouette of Moriya within the glowing light began to change shape gradually.
His height, originally about the same as mine, started to shrink. It was accompanied by unsettling cracking sounds I wasn’t sure should be audible.
As the noises continued, the skeletal silhouette took on further changes.
What had been bare bones now appeared to gain substance, as if flesh were forming over them.
“……Is this really okay?”
I couldn’t help voicing my concern at the bizarre sight. But from within the light, Moriya’s cheerful voice reassured me.
“It’s fine! I’m super happy right now!”
…Well, if he says so, I guess there’s nothing to worry about.
Oddly enough, even Moriya’s voice seemed to have shifted—it now sounded more like that of a child.
What kind of appearance would he emerge with?
I couldn’t help feeling a twinge of excitement at the thought.
The light persisted for a while, but its intensity gradually lessened. And Moriya’s new form began to appear.
“…This is… uh…”
“…Whoa! So cute!”
“…So small!”
“…Is this really Moriya-san?”
Standing before us was a golden-haired, golden-eyed child. He was around three years old, with large, round, adorable eyes.
“………What exactly is going on here?”
“Somehow, hearing such clear articulation from a three-year-old feels incredibly jarring.”
“Well, keep in mind this is actually an old man over a hundred years old. Here, Moriya, look at yourself in a mirror!”
The way Moriya waddled over was undeniably cute, earning adoring looks from the women in the group.
…….Though, knowing it was Moriya inside that form made it feel like I was being tricked somehow.
Standing before the mirror, Moriya’s eyes sparkled as he admired his new appearance.
He repeatedly touched his face and pulled at his cheeks, marveling at the sensation of flesh—a novelty for him.
“…Ah… I’m not just bones anymore… I’m not a skeleton anymore—ugh!”
“Eh!?”
“What!?”
Just as Moriya raised a fist in triumph, he suddenly coughed up bright red bl00d.
Alarmed, we rushed over, only to hear something completely unexpected.
“Are you okay, Moriya!?”
“…I… I forgot about the decay…”
“…What?”
“Just give me a moment. I’ll take care of it.”
…That should have been handled *before* you started celebrating, don’t you think?
While I stared at him in disbelief, Moriya began casting some kind of magic.
From his small body, faint, glittering white lights rose and dispersed.
“Moriya, what’s this?”
“Hold on…….. there! Much better.”
“This should’ve been the *first* thing you did.”
“Haha, I got too excited and forgot! Oh, right, this spell is called Auto Heal—it’s an automatic recovery magic.”
“…Straightforward name.”
“Easy to understand, right? With this, any decay will be healed as it happens. So I shouldn’t have any major issues for now.”
He seemed confident, but I wasn’t so sure.
There had to be limits to this.
“What if the rate of decay surpasses Auto Heal’s recovery rate? And mana isn’t infinite, no matter how much you have.”
“I’ll use magical tools for that. This one replenishes mana automatically and has a similar recovery effect. Though its recovery rate is slightly lower than Auto Heal’s.”
“…..What kind of overpowered tools are these?”
If he had such incredible tools, he could’ve lent them to us during our leveling-up sessions, don’t you think?
“…I can’t believe he has so many rare magical items.”
“…Moriya-sama is beyond extraordinary—he’s incomprehensible.”
“…I have no idea what’s going on anymore.”
“…No, Vil-sama. We’re completely out of place here, aren’t we?”
“…Wait, am I supposed to manage a base with someone like this?”
The Granzawall group stared stiffly at the array of magical tools Moriya pulled out one after another.
Meanwhile, Sensei was sipping coffee with a relaxed expression. She seemed unfazed.
…………Wait a second.
Hasn’t Sensei been calmly drinking coffee this entire time, even while Moriya was all excited?
“With all these tools, I won’t have to worry about decay! Alright, time to set off and get the Sword Queen’s pendant!”
“That’s so sudden! Do you even know where it is?”
“I have no idea! So, Maki-kun. Use your Appraisal skill, please!”
“You’re just dumping this on me?”
“Well, didn’t you also dump base management as my responsibility?”
……..Yeah, I planned to Appraise it from the start. But still, being asked so suddenly feels… annoying.
I should appraise the Sword Queen’s location—but I’m currently too drained of mana to use the skill.
“First, I need to rest—”
“Here! A magic potion!”
“…You were prepared for this?”
“Of course! Now, drink up!”
“Alright, alright, I get it!”
I quickly downed the prepared magic potion in one go. I then ate a banana for good measure before activating my Appraisal skill.
…Okay, so the target seems to be more than 5 kilometers away. But the monsters in that area are seriously tough.
There are even beasts with levels comparable to Moriya—or stronger.
“Hey, Moriya. These monsters are way too strong. Let’s take a moment to—”
“Come on! Share the info!”
“Hold on a second. I’m telling you, the monster levels—”
“Come on! Come on, come on!”
………In the end, I gave in to Moriya’s persistence and shared the display screen.
Losing to the pressure of a three-year-old… I’m beyond pathetic.
