Two more days passed. And finally, Moriya returned.  

“I’m back! Man, that was fun!”  

Heading deep into the Forest of Demons and calling it fun is probably something only Moriya could say—not just in the Adelreed Kingdom but across the entire continent. That’s to be expected of someone with a combat-based divine class.  

“So, did you get the Sword Queen’s pendant?”  

“Of course I did!”  

With a bright smile, Moriya pulled a pendant from his magic bag. It featured a mithril chain and a beautifully crafted silver pendant top. It was adorned with a translucent, emerald-green gemstone at its center.  

“That’s a gorgeous pendant.”  

“Wow! It’s so sparkly!”  

“Madoka, you really love things like this.”  

“Hehe. Women do tend to love beautiful things.”  

“…She used to wear something like this while wielding a sword?”  

Only one person had a slightly offbeat remark. But most were impressed by the pendant’s beauty.  

Even as a man, I could appreciate how stunning the Sword Queen’s pendant was. It was the kind of thing you’d secretly want to reach out and touch if no one was watching.  

Still, considering she was called the Sword Queen, she probably fought Moriya head-on with her blade.  

How did Moriya, a ‘divine-class’ Mage (Divine Magus), manage to battle, defeat, and claim this pendant from her?  

“Hey, Moriya, how did you defeat the Sword Queen?”  

“Hmm? I didn’t.”  

“…Excuse me?”  

“Turns out the Sword Queen is more like a magical beast that loves beautiful things. I cast a preservation spell on her favorite treasure to prevent deterioration, and she was so pleased that she handed it over without a fight!”  

…………Seriously? This guy.  

“So, you negotiated with a magical beast?”  

“Well, yeah, I guess that’s what it was.”  

“I mean, you’ve tamed several magical beasts before, so I’m not surprised. But… didn’t you think about trying to make the Sword Queen your familiar?”  

At my question, Moriya shook his head.  

“Making a familiar sounds simple, but it’s harder than you’d think.”  

“Really?”  

As he explained, a Familiar Contract requires mutual consent as a fundamental condition.  

It is possible to force submission using immense magical power. But that would strip the beast of its true abilities, reducing it to nothing more than a presence.  

Our familiars all willingly agreed to their contracts with Moriya after discussions, which is why there are no issues.  

In this case, the Sword Queen outright refused to acknowledge a Familiar Contract.  

“Why was that?”  

“Simple. She just didn’t want to leave her collection.”  

“Couldn’t you carry her collection with you? Or maybe build a special storage facility just for her?”  

What I said was offhand, but Moriya’s eyes lit up as if he’d just had an epiphany.  

His gaze sparkled with excitement, and I suddenly realized I’d said something troublesome.  

“That’s it! Let’s do that!”  

“Uh, Moriya?”  

“I’m heading out for a bit! Don’t worry, I’ll be right back!”  

“Wait, hold on a second—”  

“Alright, see you soon!”  

“Hey! Wait!”  

…And there he goes.  

Well, considering he already seems to have built a good relationship with the Sword Queen, there shouldn’t be any issues.  

At least, that’s what I thought—until I noticed Madoka and the others staring at me.  

“…Um, what’s wrong?”  

“Maki-kun, you always say one thing too many.”  

“You’ve gone and made things more complicated again.”  

“Leyreina-chan, are you okay?”  

“Yes… Thank you, Akigase-sama.”  

“The Sword Queen, huh… I’d like to spar with her at least once.”  

One person clearly had a different perspective. But for some reason, I felt like I was being scolded.  

“Why are you all saying it like that?”  

“Did you think about how this affects Leyreina-sama?”  

“Yeah, exactly. You left the base’s management to Taiku-san and Leyreina-san. You should consult them first.”  

I’d only mentioned it as a passing thought. But apparently, that wasn’t acceptable.  

Now that I think about it, Leyreina-san looks pretty exhausted. Wait, is this my fault?  

“……Uh, sorry about that.”  

“Ugh, Moriya-sama is so scary…..”  

……Yeah, there’s nothing I can do about that.  

Actually, if things get busier, maybe she’ll forget about it. Probably.
