Episode 196: An Unexpected Survival Life 63
In the end, Moriya managed to persuade the Sword Queen to become his familiar.
When he returned, his face was beaming with joy. However, when I pointed out that he should have lifted the curse’s penalty first, he froze with his mouth agape.
“…I-I forgot!”
“How do you forget that? That was the whole point!”
Afterward, Moriya wore the Sword Queen’s pendant around his neck and completely removed the penalty of decay.
The pendant itself was a remarkable magical tool, capable of completely nullifying all abnormal statuses.
And it worked against the penalties imposed by forbidden magic as well.
“…Whoa… Wow! This is amazing! I don’t need my other magical tools anymore!”
“Well, it doesn’t heal injuries, so you should keep wearing them just in case.”
“That’s true! But I don’t need this many, so I’ll give some to you, Tohri.”
“Wait, really? Yes, absolutely. I’ll take them!”
What luck! A reward falling into my lap.
“Alright then, first things first—”
“You’re going to build my treasure vault, aren’t you?”
“Right, right. He can’t just put that off after bringing you here……
.
.
.
Wait, what?”
“I’ll put all my skill into making it, so look forward to it!”
“Hmm. But can a mere child like you truly build one?”
“…Is the familiar… talking?”
“Leave it to me! I may look young, but I’ve lived for over a hundred years!”
“Oh? Is that so? Very well, I shall trust you then.”
“Wait a second!”
How are they just casually chatting like it’s normal?!
I didn’t even know familiars could speak human language!
“What’s wrong, Maki-kun?”
“Yes, what’s the matter? Calm yourself.”
“Ah, uh, sorry… No, wait! The Sword Queen can understand human speech?”
“Naturally. Who do you take me for?”
“Uh, the Sword Queen?”
“Indeed. I am the one who oversees the magical beasts of the southern part of the Forest of Demons.”
…Wait, what? Did she just say she’s the guardian of the Forest of Demons? And oversees the magical beasts in the south?
“Wow, being a guardian is certainly impressive! I’m so glad you were willing to negotiate with me!”
“Hohoho. I cannot help but adore my treasures. While my swordsmanship is unmatched, I am quite inept with magic. I’m grateful for your preservation spell.”
……….I mean, they’ve clearly hit it off. So maybe I should just leave them to it.
“Alright, I’m going to check in with Leyreina-san. Oh, and once the treasure vault is finished, make sure to set up a teleportation magic circle.”
“Why don’t you handle that, Maki-kun? You’ve got the Appraisal skill, don’t you?”
“Yeah, well…….. Fine, I’ll do it.”
I have plenty of other things to take care of. But I guess I can’t leave this to Moriya.
Recently, I’ve been communicating with Alicia, who returned to Granzawall, via Mail Birds.
The tasks include setting up a teleportation circle here, which will connect to a corresponding one in the settlement near the Forest of Demons.
But before that, we need to prepare basic living conditions.
It wouldn’t do to have people teleport here only to realize they can’t live in such an environment.
“A base centered around hot springs… This is going to be fun.”
Preparations to establish the base have already begun.
Madoka and the others helped gather the necessary materials.
As for building houses, we’ll need to call in specialists. So that part will have to wait until after the teleportation circle is set up.
Still, I’ll need Moriya to construct some temporary shelters for now, even if they’re just simple huts.
There’s so much to do.
Hoping that our efforts to navigate the Forest of Demons will progress smoothly from here, I focused on using my Appraisal skill to support the base-building efforts.
