Episode 200: Hot Springs, Hospitality, and Trouble 2
“It’s fine. Everyone is free to do as they please now, especially since the new system isn’t restrictive anymore.”
“Everyone? …….Wait, you mean there’s more than one person with a culinary profession?”
I couldn’t help but let out a surprised gasp, and Alicia and the others turned their wide-eyed gazes to Sensei.
“That’s right. There’s one with an advanced-class profession and another with an intermediate one. Both of them have always loved cooking and are quite skilled at it.”
“That’s fantastic! Oh, I can’t wait to meet them—and taste their food!”
“Alicia, your inner thoughts are leaking everywhere.”
It didn’t seem like she was even trying to hide it, though. Even after I pointed it out, she just stared upward, likely daydreaming about delicious dishes.
“Well, if they’re that good, I suppose we can leave it to them.”
“Of course! Let’s entrust it to them, Haruka-san!”
“Fufufu, it’s decided then. I’ll arrange for us to head to the Shriden Kingdom at the right time. Leyreina-san, I’ll need your help for that.”
“Ah, yes. Understood.”
To use the teleportation magic circle, Leyreina-san’s assistance was essential. When Sensei called out to her, she replied. But, her distracted demeanor was hard to miss.
“Let’s finalize the menu once they arrive. Thanks to Moriya-san, we have Japanese seasonings and appliances. So we should be able to serve some unique dishes.”
“Haha, the appliances are mostly thanks to Maki-kun’s efforts. I didn’t do much!”
As the meeting progressed at a brisk pace, no one seemed to notice Leyreina-san’s preoccupied state. I hoped it was just my imagination, but maybe I’d check in with her later.
“By the way, Sensei. Who are these students with culinary professions?”
“If I had to guess, I’d say Sumire-chan.”
“If there are two of them, Mamiyu should be the other one.”
(Note: It’s “Mamiya” in the raw, but “Mamiyu” sounds nicer? Mamiyu Ren is a dude and Yaka Sumire is a girl.)
Hearing this talk about fellow otherworlders, Madoka and the others were all ears.
As for me, I wasn’t particularly curious. The students mentioned were probably great at cooking, but I’d never interacted with them.
“Correct! Those two are the ones. Mamiyu-kun is an ‘advanced-class’ Head Chef, and Yaka-san is an ‘intermediate-class’ Pastry Chef’.”
“Wait, Ren-kun is *that* good at cooking?”
“Sumire-chan is amazing too, isn’t she?”
“Mamiyu’s cooking skills were pretty famous among the guys. Some people even swarmed him for his bento!”
…….Seriously? And here I am, a fellow guy, completely unaware of this.
“When I tried their food in Shriden, Mamiyu-kun handled the main courses while Yaka-san took care of desserts.”
“Ahhh! Sensei, don’t tell us that!”
“Sumire-chan’s cakes were so delicious!”
“I’d love to have Mamiyu’s bento again.”
So you were one of the swarming group, huh, Arata?
“Hearing everyone talk about it makes me want to try their food too!”
“Me too, Sis!”
“Haruka-san, please make sure to bring them here!”
“Of course.”
While everyone was getting hyped up, Leyreina-san still seemed lost in her thoughts.
Quietly, I moved to her side and asked what was wrong.
“Leyreina-san?”
“Huh? Oh, Maki-sama, when did you get here?”
“You seem a bit down. Is something bothering you?”
“D-Do I? Haha, no, it’s nothing like that.”
She was clearly trying to brush it off, but it was easy to tell something was on her mind.
“If something’s troubling you, let me know. Even if you can’t talk to me, there are plenty of reliable people around who can help.”
Alicia and Sensei in particular seemed dependable. And if she needed someone experienced, there was always Ryan-san. For someone closer to Leyreina-san, Sebas-san or Nico might be good options.
When I said that, she looked surprised for a moment but then gave me a small smile and nodded slightly.
“…Thank you, Maki-sama. In that case, could I consult with you later?”
“Of course. If I can help, I will.”
By the time I turned my attention back to the meeting, the hospitality discussion had reached its climax. Shortly before noon, it finally concluded.
