Episode 201: Hot Springs, Hospitality, and Trouble 3
After lunch, we had free time. So I invited Leyreina-san to join Snow and me for an outing. At her request, we headed to an unexpected destination: the Forest of Demons.
“Uh, Leyreina-san? Why the Forest of Demons?”
“To level up!”
“Why are you so fixated on leveling up? You didn’t seem this determined at the start.”
“Well, that’s…true, but…”
Hmm, there’s definitely a deeper reason behind this.
“Why don’t you talk to me about it? You didn’t come here solely to grind levels, right?”
Encouraged by my question, Leyreina-san looked down for a moment but eventually began to speak slowly.
“………Actually, it’s about my family.”
“Madoka mentioned something too—did the Maguire family say something?”
“…..Yes.”
As I listened, it became clear that her family was trying to take advantage of her success in Granzawall. They wanted to bring her back home and send her eldest brother in her place, effectively giving him the credit for her achievements.
“No offense, but no one except you is needed here. We’re already fine as we are.”
“I’m glad to hear you say that, but my family doesn’t see it that way.”
“So, you’re trying to become strong enough to prove your worth and resist them?”
“…..Yes.”
Hmm, based on what I know, Leyreina-san shouldn’t have anything to worry about. She’s been relentlessly hunting magical beasts in the Forest of Demons.
“Do you know your father’s or brother’s levels?”
“No, I don’t. But both my father and brother work at the royal castle, so I imagine their levels must be high.”
“I see. Are they both advanced classes?”
“That’s right.”
Currently, Leyreina-san’s level is 50. This is significantly higher than Narssen-san, the Vice-Commander with an advanced-class profession. I met him during my first visit to the royal capital. Even though the Maguire family comes from a prestigious lineage of mages, it’s hard to believe her father or brother surpass her. Especially if they share the same magic-based class.
“Leyreina-san, you’re already level 50. It’s hard to imagine them being stronger.”
“I think so too, but I can’t shake the uncertainty…”
Perhaps this is the result of years of mistreatment—she still lacks confidence in herself. While she’s gained assurance in her knowledge through her frequent use of the Erudite skill, she hasn’t had close comparisons to measure her strength.
…….Maybe I should ask Dietrich-sama about the current situation of the Maguire family. Or perhaps we could summon her father here—that would allow for a more direct confrontation.
“Hey, Leyreina-san. Have your father or brother ever been called here?”
“Ehh?! N-No way! If that happened, they’d drag me back immediately!”
“Wouldn’t it be better to confront them directly and prove them wrong?”
“D-Directly?! What if I lose? I don’t want to leave this place yet!”
Is it really something to worry about that much? Well, I can’t force her, so maybe it’s better to let her handle it her way for now.
“Alright. I won’t stop you from leveling up, but don’t push yourself too hard. We need you here, Leyreina-san.”
“Thank you so much, Maki-sama!”
“…..I really think you’re strong enough already, though.”
“Ahaha, sorry.”
Leyreina-san probably senses the truth too, but she didn’t outright deny it. Instead, she gave a bittersweet smile.
If only His Majesty had summoned someone from the Maguire family—at least her father—then we could settle this head-on.
