Episode 233: Hot Springs, Hospitality, and Trouble 32
The secret meeting for this day concluded. The next day, the ministers joined in for a regular meeting.
The topics of discussion were narrowed down to four main things: hot springs, food, alcohol, and futons. All of which revolved around the question of whether they could be brought to the royal capital.
As for the food, as previously agreed upon with His Majesty, the Chefs who had been accompanying them had already started learning the recipes and how to use the cooking magic tools.
It was also decided that they would present the cooking magic tools to them. So the discussion about food was quickly concluded.
The next topic raised was alcohol. However, this one became a bit more difficult to discuss.
…Well, it wasn’t that we were hesitant or imposing conditions on it.
“Hmm… Do we really have to meet these environment all the time?”
“It’s okay for some deviation, but that could affect the taste.”
“That would be a problem! Once you’ve tasted this quality, it’s hard to go back to anything lower than this sake!”
“Could you somehow come here and guide us in making it?”
While it was possible to ship the sake we made, there would eventually be a limit to how much we could produce. We tried to convey the brewing method as it was. But as expected, the mages seemed troubled.
Moriya began listing the conditions: a specific temperature, cleanliness, and proper management of the containers used for storing the sake.
“Well, I could sell the method, but… Is there any way for me to come over and help directly?”
“Of course, *Riki*-sama.“
By the way, Moriya had disguised himself with an illusion spell to appear as an adult and was using the name “Riki”.
There was no way to have him explain the sake-making process in his child form. And if someone else were to explain it, they likely wouldn’t be able to answer all the detailed questions. So, Moriya’s assistance was requested.
“Yeah. If that’s the arrangement, there’s no problem. But if anyone tries to break the agreement, I’ll pull out at that point. So be prepared.”
Some of the people looked displeased seeing Moriya. They showed no signs of backing down against His Majesty and the Chancellor. But many had become captivated by the sake. Moreover, they could smell money in the air. So they didn’t voice any complaints.
The discussion concluded with the understanding that Moriya would provide direct guidance in sake production. And the topic of alcohol was finally settled.
Now, the third topic was the futons.
In truth, the futons that had been placed at the inn where His Majesty and the others stayed were made from the finest materials available in the Onsen District. While other inns had futons made from one or two grades lower in quality.
Nevertheless, all the knights, mages, and ministers were extremely satisfied with the futons. And many expressed a desire to take them home.
“Wh-what!? There was an even higher-grade futon than this?”
“Well, we can’t exactly use the same ones His Majesty uses, can we?”
“However, we did experience the best sleep ever! It was much better than the ones we use at home!”
Everyone was praising the futons, and some even began saying they’d be fine with a lower-grade one.
“As for this, it’s difficult to commission production because the materials can only be gathered from the magical beasts in the Forest of Demons. However, it’s sufficiently available in the Onsen District and at Granzawall. So we can prioritize supplying it to the royal capital in the future.”
“”””Thank you so much!””””
“However… the issue lies in which merchant to entrust the sales to.”
When Alicia said this, the ministers started glaring at each other.
Like with the sake, they had sniffed out money from the futons as well. It was only natural they’d want to commission merchants they had connections with.
“We will discuss that matter later after we finish the meeting here. Otherwise, the discussion will go nowhere.”
“”””U-Understood, Your Majesty!””””
It seemed His Majesty understood this well. He immediately intervened to bring the futon discussion to an end.
……Well, there wouldn’t be any problem, since the finest futons would be presented to His Majesty anyway.
