I’m an Appraiser, But What the Heck is a [Divine Eye]? ~I Want to Live Freely as the World’s Best Beginner Class~ - Episode 241: Akagi Ena
Episode 241: Akagi Ena
“—Geez, why do I have to come all the way to this backwater place?!”
While walking along the highway, Ena muttered complaints aimed at Maria.
Well, it wasn’t entirely unreasonable for her to grumble.
Ena had traveled from the former Rodgrul Kingdom into the Shriden Kingdom, then headed east to Urungal, passed through Garentalia, and finally entered Adelreed.
Having stepped foot in five different countries, Ena was utterly exhausted by the time she arrived in Adelreed.
“And on top of that… these people are so peaceful that there’s not even a hint of crime. How am I supposed to let loose if nothing’s going on?!”
As someone quick to pick a fight, Ena had enjoyed training with knights in the Shriden Kingdom.
There, she could exchange blows with consent. And even if she beat someone to a pulp, no one complained.
That’s why she had followed Maria, despite the lack of coercion from Maria’s Magic Eye, and why she accepted a certain degree of freedom in exchange.
“……Maybe I should cause a little chaos here and then make my escape.”
Though she had occasionally worked independently from Maria before, those assignments had only lasted about ten days at most.
This time, however, she had been separated for an extended period and had traveled through five countries. Which brought about a shift in her mindset.
“If they figure out I might betray them when I get back, they might just kill me.”
At her current level 75, Ena was at the pinnacle of Maria’s forces.
But there were still those stronger than Maria within the group.
“…That student council president is such a nuisance.”
One of those people was Kaminuki Kouya, a ‘special-class’ Hero and the other individual who followed Maria without being under the control of her Magic Eye.
Ena had challenged countless commander-level opponents to one-on-one duels and defeated them all.
Yet, when it came to Kouya, she felt she couldn’t win.
That fear was something she didn’t feel toward Arata, who had been with her in the Shriden Kingdom.
Back in Japan, when it came to simple brawls, Ena had unwavering confidence in her ability to come out on top.
So she didn’t quite understand why she felt she couldn’t beat Kouya.
And perhaps it was that very lack of understanding that made her afraid.
“…Damn it. Who’d have thought I’d ever be scared of the student council president?”
As she muttered to herself with her hands behind her head, the next town came into view ahead of her.
It was the largest town she had encountered since being transferred to the Shriden Kingdom, with fairly strict security in place.
But that was of no concern to Ena.
“Alright, now… where should I sneak in from?”
She eyed the high outer walls from a distance—walls that no ordinary person could scale—and quickly chose a target area.
Walking along the highway until she was out of sight, Ena stepped off the path, erased her presence, and approached the walls stealthily.
Once close, she focused on sensing the movements of patrolling guards. She was waiting for the right moment to act—then leaped.
“—Up we go! …….And down we go!”
Landing atop the outer wall in one swift motion, Ena used her momentum to jump down to the inner side.
As someone who had been secretly moving from one country to another, Ena didn’t carry identification papers valid across borders.
While it was technically possible to enter towns, doing so without ID meant having to pay an entry fee.
Back in Japan, Ena had loved taking things from others but hated having things taken from her.
So in larger towns, she always chose to sneak in illegally, spend a day there, and leave the next morning.
“In just a few days, I should reach my destination. I wonder how strong the people there will be. This is gonna be fun~.”
With her hands still clasped behind her head, Ena strolled through the town as if she owned the place.
