Episode 244: Hot Springs, Hospitality, and Trouble 42
I’ve been using my Appraisal skill to check Akagi’s whereabouts three to four times a day.
Initially, I thought once a day would suffice. However, there was an incident where Akagi covered an incredible distance in just one day. After consulting with Dietrich-sama, we decided on three Appraisals per day.
That said, I wish His Majesty would return to the royal capital as soon as possible.
If Akagi is targeting us specifically, it’s manageable. But from her perspective, the Kingdom of Adelreed is an enemy nation.
If the king of an enemy nation is right in front of her, there’s no doubt that His Majesty would become a target.
I explained this not only to Chancellor Dietrich but directly to His Majesty as well—
“For the sake of the food here, some degree of danger is unavoidable.”
“Indeed. Besides, with Commander Vigul around, there shouldn’t be any problems.”
“Exactly! Gahaha!”
…….I wish they’d value His Majesty’s safety over a meal.
Well, I suppose this is a testament to how skilled Mamiyu and Yaka-san are as chefs. Let’s look at the bright side.
The creation of defensive magic tools has progressed, and we’ve secured a decent number.
I presented a few of them to His Majesty. He seemed very pleased with them, much to my relief.
…….Although I couldn’t agree with him testing their effectiveness by having himself attacked by the Knight Commander and Dietrich-sama.
What if they hadn’t activated?
Of course, I had thoroughly tested them and confirmed their functionality through a discreet Appraisal. But I was still uneasy.
They could have tested it on another knight, couldn’t they? Seriously!
Now, we’re adequately prepared to defend ourselves whenever Akagi decides to show up.
With that taken care of, I moved on to fulfilling my promise to Dietrich-sama—Appraising the rules for creating magic tools.
Although I can craft magic tools using my Appraisal skill, the ideas I use to create them are limited to what exists within my own imagination.
I’m curious to see what kind of magic tools others might devise with their ingenuity. There’s a good chance they’ll come up with creations far beyond what I can imagine.
After all, there are concepts and inspirations unique to the people of this world that I might overlook.
“Appraisal: Establishing Basic Rules for Magic Tool Creation.”
Under Dietrich-sama’s eager gaze, I began the Appraisal. And it concluded successfully.
I shared the display screen with him. And he started nodding and taking notes while murmuring, “I see, I see,” in apparent understanding.
I took a look myself. But honestly, it didn’t make much sense to me.
Dietrich-sama’s ability to grasp everything from just that screen proves he’s a true researcher at heart.
“…Thank you very much, Mihiro-sama!”
“No, it’s nothing.”
“Please don’t call it ‘nothing’. This is a significant step forward for magic tool development in the Kingdom of Adelreed!”
It seems I won’t have to provide magic tools myself for much longer.
“Oh! Dietrich-sama, in that case, should I also share the magic circle for the Mail Bird?”
“W-Would that really be all right?”
“Huh? Um, yes?”
Why is he so surprised?
“That’s an incredibly revolutionary magic tool! The idea of sending letters to distant recipients is unheard of!”
“Is it really that amazing?”
“Yes! Please teach me—by all means!”
I didn’t expect him to react so strongly.
If it’s that significant, I should have brought it up much sooner.
