Episode 262: The Hero, the Sword Saint, and the Appraiser 3
When we arrived at the Post Town, Ryan-san, Vil-san, and Ricott-san were there to see us off.
“Leaving again so soon after getting back? Isn’t that a bit rushed?”
“We had to move quickly.”
“Hey, Ricott. Don’t say things like that; Maki-sama and the others have their reasons.”
Ricott-san had spoken with a slight pout, and Vil-san scolded her. But I quickly stopped him.
“Now, now, Vil-san. Ricott-san’s just worried about us.”
“She should be more straightforward with her concern.”
“C-Captain!”
“That said, both Vil and I are worried about you leaving right after returning. Please come back safely.”
“Of course. I still have things I need to accomplish here.”
After shaking hands firmly with all three, we moved onto the teleportation magic circle. And we teleported to the Shriden Kingdom.
◆◇◆◇
…It seems we’ve arrived safely.
“That was close,”
Moriya’s voice came from beside me.
“Huh? What was close?”
“Hey, Maki-kun. That teleportation circle—did it have a limit on how many people it could transport?”
“Uh, I think it was up to five people at once… Wait, what?”
Now that I think about it, there’s me, Arata, Sensei, Moriya, and our familiars Sunny and Haku.
Counting the familiars, that makes six in total.
“Did you manage to handle it on your own, Moriya?”
“Exactly! You really should tell me about stuff like that beforehand!”
“S-Sorry! I completely forgot!”
“You forgot?! …..…Well, I guess it’s partly my fault for joining at the last minute.”
That was way too close.
I hadn’t gone to the Shriden Kingdom in a while. And lately, I’d been relying on Moriya for teleportation. The capacity limit completely slipped my mind.
“Are you Maki Mihiro-sama’s group? Ryan-sama has informed us about you. Please follow me.”
A knight approached us right after we teleported.
Following his lead down the hallway, we soon encountered someone I’d seen a few times during the post-war cleanup.
“It’s been a while, Maki-sama.”
“It has, hasn’t it, Ride-san?”
Ride-san is someone who worked as an aide to Dietrich-sama. He was assigned here after the war ended.
“Has it been difficult adjusting to a new place?”
“It was tough at first. But once I got used to it, I found it to be a pleasant place.”
Ride-san was always smiling. But beneath that smile was a sharp mind capable of thinking through countless scenarios.
Ask him one question, and he’d propose ten solutions. He could even solve issues across completely different domains with ease.
That’s likely why Dietrich-sama trusted him enough to leave him here. He must’ve believed Ride-san wouldn’t falter, even if negotiations from the Shriden Kingdom came up.
I’ve even sat in on one of Ride-san’s negotiations before. He never stumbled over his words, and he always reached the optimal solution. Which I could confirm using my Appraisal skill.
“Now, to the main topic. The King of the Shriden Kingdom has expressed a desire to meet with you. Could you spare some time for an audience?”
“The King?”
We exchanged glances.
Considering that we were about to confront the former king’s daughter, it wasn’t surprising that the current king might want to speak with us beforehand.
“Understood.”
“Thank you. I will guide you to him myself.”
Ride-san took over from the knight and led us through Shriden’s castle.
The walls of the hallways, which had been in ruins during the war, were now magnificently restored.
Just as I was reflecting on that, we arrived at our destination.
“Right this way, please.”
Ride-san personally opened the door, and we stepped into a room.
