Episode 265: The Hero, the Sword Saint, and the Appraiser 6
Having left Shriden Castle, I now found myself in unfamiliar territory for the first time.
That went not just for me, but for Arata and Sensei as well.
So, where to next? Fortunately, I had received a rough outline of the route from Dietrich-sama beforehand.
For now, we could proceed without issue if we followed the directions provided.
“Well, if anything happens, I can always Appraise it. So no worries.”
“We’re counting on you, Mihiro.”
“Sorry for always relying on you, Mihiro-kun.”
“But Maki-kun enjoys doing it, so isn’t it fine?”
Hey now, Moriya. It’s not like I *enjoy* doing it or anything.
“For now, we head south.”
“If we follow the highway, we’ll reach the next city.”
“But walking along the highway like this, it doesn’t seem like Shriden is such a bad place, does it?”
I understood what Sensei meant.
The highway connecting cities was well-paved. And it seemed like regular beast hunts were conducted, as there were no traces of monsters anywhere.
Honestly, we probably looked more dangerous, with our familiars in tow. We definitely looked more intimidating than anything else out here.
“No, no, it’s not just luck. This is all thanks to His Majesty ascending to the throne,”
“King Orvis is really working hard, huh?”
“And it’s all thanks to Ride-sama’s efforts as well, isn’t it?”
“Not at all. Compared to you all, I’m nothing,”
Ride-san said humbly, scratching his head.
“It’s something they couldn’t have achieved themselves. You’re incredible.”
“Ahaha, you’re making me blush. But more importantly—”
Arata interjected with more praise. But Ride-san seemed unable to handle it and abruptly changed the subject.
“From here to the next city is quite a distance. It’s still early in the morning, so we should arrive before sunset. But is everyone okay with that?”
Ordinarily, we might have used some form of transportation. But we chose to travel on foot.
To outsiders, it probably looked like we were just out for a casual stroll.
At first, I considered using the fruits to speed things up. But given the presence of others—and especially with Ride-san accompanying us this time—that option was off the table.
I’d have to send a message via Mail Bird to Dietrich-sama to confirm about the fruits later.
“We’ll be fine.”
Even without the fruits, we had another means of transportation.
This method wasn’t just viable—it might even be faster.
“What do you have in mind?”
“We’ll ride the familiars.”
“…What?”
“Well, to be specific, we’ll ride Haku.”
Sunny was still a young beast. While it could carry a single person, that was its limit.
Haku, on the other hand, was fully grown. It was large enough to comfortably carry three people.
“I’ll ride Sunny and fly overhead. Arata, sensei, and Ride-san, you’ll ride Haku.”
“…Wait, Maki-kun, what about me?”
Moriya raised his voice. He was clearly upset that I hadn’t included him.
“You’re going to run.”
“…Huh?! Are you serious?! That’s way too cruel!”
“But you can keep up with Haku and Sunny, right? Your level is high enough.”
“Well, yeah, but… still! Isn’t that harsh?!”
“There’s no other choice; Haku can’t carry four people without slowing down.”
Explaining our familiars’ harmlessness to the next city’s guards would take time. So we needed to make this journey as quick as possible.
“Fine, fine! I’ll run! Happy now?!”
“…Um, Maki-sama? Who is this child?”
Ah, right. This was Ride-san’s first time meeting Moriya.
“………….Let’s just say he’s a bit out of the ordinary.”
“Uh… huh? I mean… what?”
“Never mind that! Ride-san, hop onto Haku!”
“Wait, what? Uh… okay, um… huh?!”
Ride-san was full of questions. But we pushed him onto Haku’s back without further explanation.
I made a mental note to include Moriya in the next update to Dietrich-sama.
“Alright, let’s head out! Hold on tight!”
“Understood. Now then—whoa! W-whoooOOOOOOooOAOOoooA!!”
As Haku took off running, Ride-san let out a scream that echoed through the air.
