Episode 282: The Hero, the Sword Saint, and the Appraiser 23
For now, let’s set aside my exchange with Dirk-san and focus on checking the battle situation.
I trust Arata and the others. With Sunny and Haku present, there shouldn’t be any emergencies.
Even so, I can’t feel completely at ease until I see things with my own eyes.
Though sharing the device with these two might feel a bit cramped, it’s not something for me to worry about.
“Alright, the aerial bombardment is going smoothly. It looks like their magic doesn’t reach Sunny.”
That leaves Arata and the others as the main point of concern.
They’re up against the enemy’s strongest fighters on this battlefield. And while emergencies shouldn’t happen… they’re not entirely impossible—especially for Gies-san.
Gies-san is facing off against their general. In terms of level, they’re evenly matched.
Both are advanced-class warriors, so the outcome could go either way.
“…Oh! Looks like they’re about to clash.”
The enemy’s general and their vice-general are on the move.
“Hmm, it seems they plan to stop those two.”
“Heh, I doubt they’ll manage that.”
“I wouldn’t know, as I lack a soldier’s insight. However, since Maki-sama sent them, I’m sure they’ll be fine.”
“Oh-ho? You seem to hold him in high regard.”
Come on, Ride-san, don’t say unnecessary things!
Now Dirk-san is looking at me intently out of the corner of his eye!
“Th-that’s not the point! They’re about to clash!”
The first move came from the enemy general.
Wielding a massive sword wrapped in bright red flames, they swung it down. It released powerful flames forward.
…Hey, this guy just sacrificed his own allies to attack Arata and the others!
“What a scumbag.”
“Seriously.”
“Should I drop a spell on him?”
““…What?””
“Ahaha! Moriya, your jokes are hilarious!”
Please don’t do anything, Moriya. You’ll just make things worse. Especially since Dirk-san would undoubtedly grill me about it!
………And seriously, Dirk-san, stop staring at me like that!
“Oh! Gies-sama has made his move!”
“It looks like the enemy has split into two groups.”
“Hmm… That second-in-command is quite strong.”
Ah, Dirk-san noticed.
The enemy’s general and vice-general differ vastly in strength—an overwhelming disparity, even.
Yet, the weaker one is the general, while the stronger one is the vice-general. What’s the deal with that?
Gies-san is the first to engage the general.
In terms of strength, the general has the edge. But Gies-san is faster and more dexterous.
It’s a matter of which one can pull the fight into their domain… but Gies-san seems more skilled overall.
The general likely thought the earlier magic attack with his sword would have taken care of everything.
Or perhaps they lack actual combat experience.
If it’s the latter, there’s no way Gies-san will lose. He’s a genuine A-rank adventurer who earned his title through sheer ability.
“Now then, let’s see… Oh, that vice-general is holding their own.”
They’re fighting Arata head-on.
Judging by the body-strengthening magic they’re using, it’s probably to bridge the stat gap.
However, magic is still just magic. Once their mana runs out, they’ll have to rely on their base stats. And mana depletion will likely impair their movements.
For Arata, the longer the fight drags on, the more it works in his favor as his opponent self-destructs… but of course, Arata doesn’t seem inclined to wait.
“Looks like he’s planning to crush the vice-general head-on.”
At this rate, their morale is bound to break.
…Not that Arata intends to let them escape.
“…Hmm, it seems I must keep my promise now.”
“…I’m counting on you.”
“No, it is I who am counting on you, Maki.”
……..…When did this guy even learn my name?
As I pondered that, Gies-san beheaded the enemy general, and Arata crushed the vice-general. They secured our victory on this battlefield.
