Episode 292: The Hero, the Sword Saint, and the Appraiser 33
——BOOOOOOOMM!
…Did I overdo it?
No, it wasn’t a magic tool that prioritized power that much. It must have hit a spot that triggered a magical explosion…….. probably.
“Hey, hey! What was that just now!?”
“We’re going, too!”
“But what about the lookout here?”
“Ahh! Then, you stay behind! The rest of us will head to the barracks to assist!”
Oh! It seems things are unfolding just as I expected.
Not all the lookouts are gone. But with just one left, we can handle it.
Better check the lookouts inside too….. Alright. They’re still around, but their numbers have been reduced a lot.
“From here, it’s a race against time. Just because I handed over those magic tools doesn’t mean they’re completely safe.”
“Are you talking about probabilities?”
“Yeah. If there’s even a 1% chance of dying, we should act swiftly to reduce it to near zero.”
The others nodded at my words.
First, we need to neutralize the remaining lookouts. It might be faster to have Arata take them down directly.
“Thunder Spike.”
“Huh? S-Sensei?”
“Ahhhhhh!?”
Just as I was about to confirm the best course of action, the Sensei used Lightning Magic to knock out the lookout.
…..I never expected her to take the initiative like that.
“Hey, Sensei, don’t just fire off magic out of nowhere—it’s startling.”
“But you said, ‘act swiftly,’ right?”
“………..You’re not wrong about that.”
“Then it’s fine. Let’s go.”
Knowing that the student council president is here must be fueling her enthusiasm.
I just hope that enthusiasm doesn’t backfire……….. Though having Moriya around is reassuring, I still can’t help but worry.
“We’ll be spotting the next lookout soon. This time, let’s leave it to Arata.”
“Why?”
“There’s another lookout nearby. If we use magic here, it’ll give us away immediately.”
The lookout we’re dealing with is on the first floor, but another one is patrolling the hallway just above.
If they see the light of magic or hear strange noises like before, they’ll rush in.
“We want to avoid unnecessary injuries from a chaotic fight, right?”
“You’re always about safety first, aren’t you, Maki-kun?”
“That’s about all I’m good at.”
“Got it. I’ll take care of it.”
Arata loosened his grip on his sword’s hilt, exhaled softly, and focused his mind.
We stayed hidden around the corner while Arata took a deep breath and dashed out. He closed the gap with the lookout in one swift motion.
“Huh? What the—ugh!”
Wow, Arata really is something. He knocked the lookout out cold with a single hand strike.
The lookout above hasn’t noticed the disturbance below either. So we should be good.
“We’ll infiltrate further from here… but let’s split into two groups.”
“Huh? What do you mean by that, Mihiro-kun?”
Sensei asked in response to my suggestion.
“It seems like Maria and the student council president are acting separately from the other three.”
“So you’re suggesting we handle them separately?”
“Exactly. Arata, Sunny, and I will go after Maria and the student council president. Sensei, Moriya, Ride-san, and Haku, please handle the other three.”
Ideally, moving as one group would increase our survival odds. But if our goal is to rescue the student council president, this approach is better.
Particularly since saving the president would greatly improve everyone’s chances. Arata’s involvement likely plays a role in this.
“When it comes to convincing the president……….. Arata will do it.”
“Me?”
“Of course. The president won’t budge if I’m the one trying to persuade them.”
Words from a classmate wouldn’t carry as much weight as those from a friend who shared memories of school life together.
“The remaining three are up to you, Sensei. Convince them with words or knock them out with magic if necessary.”
“Understood. I’ll do my best to persuade them.”
“Just don’t do anything reckless or self-sacrificial, okay?”
“Well, we’ll see about that. But I’ll do my best.”
……….I’m worried.
I glanced at Moriya, and he gave a small nod while shrugging his shoulders.
“…I’m counting on you.”
“Be careful, you two.”
“You as well, Mihiro-kun and Mitsurugi-kun.”
“Best of luck to you.”
“Leave this to us!”
After giving instructions and placing my trust in not only Sensei but also Moriya, we split up and began our separate missions.
