- Chapter 31 - Epilogue: Springtime Sea II
“Oh.”
“Ah.”
“Gee.”
On the spring beach, I accidentally reunited with my twin sister. With her ex-girlfriend, no less.
Walking along the seaside promenade, Ikka was dressed in a stylish pair of pants. Her makeup had changed since the last time we met. The woman I met on the beach at dawn had a dignified air about her, almost too refined to be called a seductress.
The change in her wasn’t just about her clothes. There were bigger, more obvious differences.
“Your hair’s shorter now,” Hakobe murmured.
Ikka’s hair, which once reached her shoulders, had been chopped off into a sharp, neat bob. It swayed gently in the ocean breeze, and tiny earrings sparkled from her exposed earlobes.
“Yep. What do you think, Hakobe-chan?”
“…I think it suits you.”
Ikka’s lips curled into a smile. In that instant, her natural charm replaced the sharpness of her appearance. She was still such an incredible woman. How many hearts could she steal with just that one smile? I couldn’t make a smile like that even if I tried.
“Thanks. Even if you’re just saying it to be polite, I’m happy to hear it. And—”
Ikka narrowed her eyes, focusing on something ahead of her.
Hakobe’s hair, once dyed a deep blue like the early morning sky, now shone red, bathed in the light of the rising sun.
“Hakobe-chan, that suits you too.”
“Th-thanks.”
“Why do you have to answer like that?”
“Shut up, just go away, you stupid sister.”
Waving her hands dismissively, Ikka laughed bitterly.
“Wow, you’re cold, Tsuguno. Hey, Hakobe-chan, why don’t you stop hanging out with this idiot and come to my place instead? I’ve been fighting with Serina lately, and honestly, I’m terrible at cooking.”
“Don’t treat my girlfriend like a housekeeper, you idiot sister.”
“Did something happen between you two?”
At our words, Ikka shrugged dramatically.
“Well, I was thinking of getting a kitten, but Serina totally opposed it.”
“…You like cats, though.”
“Ahaha.”
The way she laughed—without rhythm or tone—was almost unnerving. That kitten… it better be a real kitten. There’s no way it could be a human being, right? That would be a stretch even for Ikka.
“So, what do you think?”
She asked Hakobe.
“Would you come to my place?”
Hakobe’s pupils contracted slightly as she caught Ikka’s gaze.
Just a little while ago, this would’ve been exactly the kind of invitation Hakobe had been desperate for. She would’ve longed for it, wandering the wilderness alone, reaching for something she knew was fake, yearning for it from the very depths of her soul.
But Hakobe didn’t hesitate. She shook her head without a second thought.
“I’ll pass.”
“I see.”
Ikka nodded, not sounding disappointed at all.
I glanced at the sea and exhaled softly. The sea, illuminated by the rising sun, sparkled as if someone had shattered jewels and scattered them across the water.
Hakobe continued.
“She’d probably resent me, and also…”
The girl who had once walked the barren wilderness smiled.
Her hair, two-toned—black and red—danced in the sea breeze, bouncing with each step.
Not with anyone else, but with me, by my side.
“I’m Tsuguno-san’s girlfriend.”
