I’m Her Secretively Beautiful and Strong Alpha. - Chapter 4
Nan Xi couldn’t remember how she had left the living room and returned to her bedroom last night.
It seemed Mu Xi had escorted her all the way to her door, coaxing her gently, urging her not to be too upset and to rest early. Dazed by the comforting words, she had stumbled into her room, torn between anguish and happiness, collapsing onto the bed in tears without even unpacking her suitcase.
Even now, Nan Xi was caught between bitterness and joy, feeling as if she were on the verge of madness.
Of course she was happy—Mu Xi, who had vanished five years ago, had reappeared completely unharmed. Just standing there before her, doing nothing at all, Nan Xi’s heart had nearly melted at the sight of her. That slap she had given Mu Xi was as much a punishment for herself.
But Mu Xi didn’t remember her at all. Nan Xi knew her too well—there wasn’t a trace of deception in her reactions or actions. She had truly forgotten everything.
The tailored suit, the Bluetooth earpiece always at the ready, the polite professional smile. She really was a butler now.
What had Mu Xi gone through these past five years? Why had she disappeared back then?
Had she chosen to forget her on purpose?
Nan Xi rolled over on the soft bed, staring up at the ceiling and the crystal chandelier, letting her tears trickle down her cheeks toward her earlobes.
She was reliving every moment of her reunion with Mu Xi today.
After the initial shock came overwhelming anger and resentment… and when she realized Mu Xi didn’t remember her, the surge of hatred nearly drowned her.
The shift in her emotions came when Mu Xi insisted on taking care of her, ignoring Nan Xi’s threats to fire her.
Nan Xi could feel her heart softening instantly. That side of Mu Xi was all too familiar—meticulously attending to her needs, prioritizing her well-being above all else.
Back in university, because Nan Xi was an especially delicate omega, Mu Xi had spared no effort in looking after her.
Checking how many layers she wore each day, carrying anything heavy or awkward for her; preparing a mask before entering crowded places, shielding her from being jostled… and always making sure the water in her cup was warm.
So, when Mu Xi told them to prepare warm water for her, all of Nan Xi’s anger had evaporated in an instant.
Even without her memories, Mu Xi hadn’t changed at all.
Strong, steady, attentive.
Nan Xi had refused the warm water, saying she didn’t want anyone else to pour it for her. If anyone was going to take care of her, it had to be Mu Xi—she wouldn’t accept anyone else.
…After Mu Xi disappeared five years ago, Nan Xi had fallen ill for a long time. The moment she recovered, she flew abroad to study.
Thinking back to those years, Nan Xi clenched her fists and pounded them into the blankets between sobs.
How wonderful those days had been! How happy they had been together!
How could Mu Xi bear to forget? How could she just… forget?
She hated her. Nan Xi decided then—she would hate Mu Xi, hate her for the rest of her life.
…
But right now, she felt so miserable.
After hammering the blankets for a while, Nan Xi sat up with a grim expression and began texting her family therapist.
Nan Zhiya had given her the contact details of every member of the household staff before she boarded the plane, including Mu Xi’s. But Nan Xi suspected she must have a private number too.
The therapist replied almost immediately.
Perhaps it was the doctor’s habit to be on call 24/7, or perhaps she simply didn’t dare neglect the young lady of the Nan family. Nan Xi didn’t care which reason it was.
With red-rimmed eyes, she scheduled a psychological consultation for the next afternoon.
Since she would definitely sleep in tomorrow, morning hours were out of the question.
This coincidentally aligned perfectly with Mu Xi’s
Mu Xi awkwardly rubbed his nose and stood at the bedroom door, attempting to communicate with Nan Xi: “Young Miss, the family doctor will be arriving shortly to conduct your physical examination. Would you be willing to undergo it?”
Though he phrased it as a question, Mu Xi was already prepared to be scolded, cancel the examination, and then apologize profusely to the doctor.
The excuse for cancellation would be his own scheduling oversight—certainly not because Young Miss Nan Xi had thrown a tantrum.
“I’ll come downstairs in one hour,” Nan Xi replied coldly, no longer looking at him as she prepared to close the door again. When the gap was just wide enough for Mu Xi to peer through with one eye, Nan Xi suddenly reopened it, her tone carrying a hint of threat, “You’d better forget what I look like right now. Pretend you never saw me.”
But Mu Xi’s memory was exceptionally good—that was how he managed to remember every single task Nan Zhiya assigned him with perfect clarity.
Nevertheless, Mu Xi respectfully responded with a “Yes,” even bowing to the door before turning to go downstairs and prepare for the family doctor’s arrival.
After last night’s extreme circumstances, the fact that Young Miss hadn’t refused the full-body examination (saving him a mountain of trouble) moved him deeply.
So, what if her attitude toward him was poor? That Nan Xi was willing to spare both him and her was something Mu Xi was already immensely grateful for.
The moment she turned away, Nan Xi’s expression shifted to one of frustration. She stripped off her clothes and rushed into the shower, where she bumped her shin against the bathtub, leaving a noticeable red mark.
She poured an excessive amount of bath salts into the tub. While soaking, she busied herself with a beauty device to carefully reduce the puffiness around her eyes, then applied skincare products, waiting for them to fully absorb.
Then came brushing her teeth—Nan Xi checked her reflection repeatedly to ensure her teeth were perfectly white and flawless, with nothing strange stuck between them. Suddenly, she found herself agonizing over what to wear. Should the color of her dress match the weather or her mood…?
A black dress. Black suited her current state of mind and complemented her complexion. Ideally, it would make her skin glow so brightly it would blind Mu Xi.
True to her word, Nan Xi completed everything within the hour.
When she reappeared before Mu Xi, she looked even more beautiful and haughty than the day before, like a white swan draped in black feathers.
But Mu Xi made no comment on her improved appearance.
Instead, he glanced at the two doctors standing before him and tentatively asked one of them, “Dr. Zhang, the full-body examination I scheduled for Young Miss shouldn’t include mental health evaluation. I was wondering if you—”
“I asked him to come,” Nan Xi interrupted without further explanation.
Mu Xi immediately dropped all questions: “If that’s what you require, I’ll faithfully document your mental health status as well.”
For Nan Xi’s full-body examination, Mu Xi had carefully selected a female omega doctor, with an all-female omega assistant team, to avoid any unnecessary complications.
He believed female omegas would get along well together. Moreover, Nan Xi
From the moment Mu Xi first laid eyes on Nan Xi today, she had felt extremely awkward. However, her professional ethics wouldn’t allow her to simply walk away.
So, when Dr. Anna and her assistant were making preparations in the greenhouse conservatory, Mu Xi quietly retreated.
But before she could fully step out, Nan Xi immediately grabbed her wrist.
Nan Xi had been watching her every move and became alert when she saw her leaving. “Where are you going?” she demanded.
“Young Mistress, without your permission, I should excuse myself during your medical examination.”
“Then I want you to stay,” Nan Xi said at once. “I order you to stay and accompany me during the checkup.”
Here, Nan Xi paused, as if considering whether her attitude was too forceful or perhaps impolite.
After a moment’s thought, she looked up with what she thought was a friendly smile—though to Mu Xi, it appeared rather fierce:
“You’re my butler, aren’t you? That means I can make such a request of you.”
“Will you stay?”
