I'm Interested In Your Friend - Chapter 59
59
Not long after ending her call with Jiang Ruofu, Olivia called too, regarding the cover replacement.
Yu Lili absentmindedly agreed a couple of times, her mind still on what Jiang Ruofu had said.
“Lili, what I’m about to say comes from a personal place. It might not sound pleasant,” Olivia, speaking as a senior in the industry, analyzed the situation. “Although the heat around the Yu Mu matter has died down somewhat, if it isn’t handled properly, it could still seriously affect your career. After all, our industry is closely tied to the entertainment world.”
Yu Lili nodded. “Thanks, Sister Olivia. Don’t worry — our family will respond this afternoon.”
She had already discussed with her parents and contacted reporters to submit evidence.
The interview would be released later today.
The reason for the delayed response wasn’t just to lure Tan Suran back home.
They also used the opportunity to clean house — Yu’s father removed several scheming employees from the company.
After playing the hands-off CEO for a while, he had gone on a couples’ round-the-world trip with Yu’s mother.
Yu Lili had a sneaking suspicion…
Her father probably did it more for the latter. The former was just an excuse to slack off and pacify shareholders.
That afternoon—
Once the media outlet they contacted released the video,
[Yu Family Clarification] shot up the trending charts.
In no time at all—
It exploded from the bottom and rocketed to #1.
The fans couldn’t contain it.
Netizens swarmed in.
The narrative flipped dramatically.
The Yu family gained overwhelming support.
Because the interview video detailed years of spending on Yu Mu — study abroad programs, jewelry, handbags, skiing, bungee jumping — all sorts of non-essential, luxury expenses.
It was extravagance that stunned the public.
And before anyone could argue that material comfort doesn’t equal happiness—
The video then included chat records.
Including but not limited to:
Yu Mu voluntarily asking to terminate the adoption, and the adoptive mother patiently trying to talk her out of it several times.
[Wow, this is what they mean by “a dog bites Lü Dongbin – can’t tell good from bad.”]
[Still need a daughter? Mom, I volunteer.]
[Seriously, she lived like that and still turned on them? Is she trying to step on her family’s bones to relaunch her career and leech off them again…?]
[PSA: A character’s storyline ≠ the actor’s real-life values. I admit she acted well in the movie, but don’t project the character’s experiences onto the actress. Did you forget the last actor who played a righteous cop? They’re crying in jail now.]
[How many people who pitied Yu Mu earlier were totally brainwashed? Industry folks know — she’s infamous for her bad temper and low EQ. She just pretends to be gracious on camera. Persona-building gone wrong.]
[This level of treatment — even biological kids rarely get it.]
[Look at the interviews with neighbors and teachers — the adoptive parents were truly kind. When they could only attend one parent-teacher meeting, they always chose the sister’s. Probably because, in their eyes, there was never a distinction between adopted or not. The adopted one, she’s the one who couldn’t get over it.]
[I feel bad for the adoptive parents. They didn’t ask for gratitude, just didn’t expect betrayal.]
[Waiting for Yu Mu to be completely canceled.]
[It’s already 5 PM. Her team is this useless? Still no response script?]
[Her fans are quietly trying to “clean the plaza.” Gross.]
By 8 PM that night—
Amidst widespread anticipation—
Yu Mu finally issued a response on social media.
A long block of text screenshot.
It looked sincere.
[Here comes the essay. Yawn. So early. Can someone TL;DR?]
[Replying above: 1. Thanks adoptive parents. 2. Never said she was mistreated. (True — she never said it outright, just heavily implied.) 3. Tells people not to bother her adoptive parents. 4. Claims this is her final response, and she has a clear conscience. Doesn’t want to say more — a way of “repaying” their kindness. (More subtle shade.) 5. Thanks everyone for supporting her movie Spring Burial. (Still advertising, how shameless.)]
[Replying above again: TL;DR — she’s innocent, the adoptive parents are lying, but she won’t expose them out of gratitude.]
[Thanks class rep. Finally makes sense.]
[Wow, pulling the emotion card when there’s solid evidence. So transparent.]
Yu Lili saw Yu Mu’s response at the Yu family’s old home.
She was with both her parents when they watched it.
Yu’s father snorted, lazily turned away, and went back to fiddling with the tea set.
Yu’s mother sighed deeply, her expression sorrowful.
“Don’t look at it anymore. Let’s just say it’s over,” Yu’s father comforted.
Yu’s mother said nothing. She walked upstairs and brought down a thick, old bronze-colored photo album.
It was filled with childhood photos.
“Do we have a lighter in the house?”
Yu’s father shook his head. “I quit smoking years ago.”
Yu Lili instinctively checked her pockets.
She was wearing Tan Suran’s clothes today.
Everything — cigarettes, lighter — all there.
“I have one,” she said, handing the lighter over to her mom.
Her mom didn’t take it, frowning. “Why do you have this?”
Afraid of getting nagged, she didn’t want to admit it was Tan Suran’s.
So she quickly made something up.
“Friend had a birthday — I borrowed it to light candles.”
Her mom took the lighter and began pulling out photos related to Yu Mu, burning them one by one.
“I really did wish our family could be whole and happy.”
The orange flame danced on the photos, gradually curling and consuming them.
Yu’s father sipped his tea. “Some fates aren’t meant to be. This chapter’s over. From now on, the three of us — we’ll be happy together.”
Saying that, he stood up, patted Yu’s mom on the shoulder, and headed upstairs.
Yu Lili walked over, crouched down, leaned against her mother’s shoulder, and nuzzled her head. “Mommy, I will always love you.”
Yu’s mom patted her daughter’s hand.
She was still feeling emotional…
But then she suddenly noticed something in the corner of the sofa.
A white rectangular box.
The more she looked at it…
It looked like a cigarette pack.
“Where did this come from?” Her mother’s expression darkened instantly, voice cold and sharp.
Oops.
She must’ve accidentally pulled out Tan Suran’s cigarette pack earlier while searching for the lighter.
Yu Lili, in a panic, quickly came up with a half-truth:
“Uh… I think Dad sat there just now.”
Her mom, holding the cigarette pack as hard evidence, stormed upstairs in fury.
Sensing danger, Yu Lili grabbed her bag and fled.
Tan Suran, who had come to pick her up, happened to pull up outside at that moment.
Yu Lili yanked open the door. “Go, go, go!”
“In such a rush?” Tan Suran started the car, laughing. “What bad thing did you do behind my back?”
Yu Lili nodded. “Yup, I just put ten green hats on you. If we don’t go now, someone’s coming to fight me.”
Tan Suran chuckled and said nothing.
The car moved forward.
Yu Lili turned her head to look at Tan Suran, calmly driving.
“You don’t care? No reaction?”
“Not at all.” Tan Suran turned the wheel at the intersection. “Next time, just call me. I’ll help keep watch so you won’t get caught.”
Yu Lili pouted. “Fine. Next time, I will.”
Tan Suran slightly turned her head and smirked.
—
Later that night, in bed.
After the deed was done.
Yu Lili rubbed her sore hand and waist, legs jelly-like, ready to shower.
But a hand gripped her arm.
Cool to the touch.
“What?” she asked.
“Where are you going?” Tan Suran leaned back against the headboard, eyes closed.
“To shower.”
Tan Suran said nothing. Didn’t let go either.
She silently opened her eyes, straightened up, reached out—
Pulled open the nightstand drawer.
And took out another condom.
Yu Lili sensed danger. “What are you doing?”
Tan Suran tilted her chin, pulled her close again, pinned her down on the bed—
Ripped the wrapper open.
With a snap, slid it onto her finger.
Hovering over her, voice cold with a teasing undertone:
“We’re not done yet, baby.”
…
She was really in the mood tonight?
Though exhausted—
Yu Lili still cooperated.
They went another round.
But when Tan Suran slowly took out yet another condom…
Yu Lili was stunned.
“…?”
She’d known Tan Suran had abs, and those lean white arms could flex when used—
But she really didn’t know her stamina was this insane.
She trembled from exhaustion.
“No more…”
Her
voice trembled, barely audible.
“Really… I’m going to break…”
She weakly pushed at her arm, barely resisting.
Couldn’t even close her mouth properly.
“Sis…”
Yu Lili cried and clenched, whining: “Sister… slow down… please slow down…”
In the end, she was practically a puddle of water.
Couldn’t even lift a finger.
Tan Suran was drenched in sweat too, breathing heavily.
“How was that?”
Yu Lili didn’t want to say a word.
Too tired to move.
She could only stare at Tan Suran’s satisfied face—
Listening to her smug voice:
“Just me alone is worth ten people.”
“Next time, just come to me.”
