I'm Just Getting Your Luck - Chapter 15
“1,500 just to touch you once?!”
As a fox spirit, Ying Yu’s most hated animal had always been dogs.
Now she had a new number two: horses.
She had kindly asked the horse where it felt unwell, and it actually replied that her “fox stench” was making it nauseous.
She did not smell, thank you very much!
Even when she was laid out on the hospital bed, Ying Yu was still fuming.
“Le-ge, I’m really fine. Didn’t they just run a full check-up?”
“You literally spun 720 degrees in the air and you’re telling me you’re fine? What if there’s internal damage?” Zhang Le had nearly been scared to death when he got Zhou Chenyi’s call and rushed to find her. That horse had kicked Ying Yu two meters into the air — his soul almost left his body. Thank god she was okay.
They rushed her to the county hospital. Ying Yu woke up on the way, but they still insisted on running a full examination, just in case.
“Stay here and rest for two days. You’ve done great prep work in Yuyou Village. All that’s left is to collect data. Focus on healing for now.”
“Le-ge, I’m really okay.”
“Okay? Even if the horse didn’t land a direct hit, it still stepped on your foot. Look at that — it’s swollen like a pig’s trotter.” Zhang Le wouldn’t back down. “Stay put. If you sneak back to work, I’m docking your pay.”
“Isn’t that a little dramatic…” Ying Yu wiggled her big toe and winced. Fine — it did hurt. She’d stay put.
Zhang Le originally arranged a care rotation, but Ying Yu insisted it was unnecessary — it was just a minor injury, not a major illness. In the end, they compromised: someone would come check on her every half-day.
She was in a two-person room, but the second bed was empty.
The wall-mounted TV worked, but only had one channel — and it was broadcasting Animal World.
This world clearly had a vendetta against her.
She gritted her teeth and watched the wildebeest migration, finally discovering her phone could cast to the TV.
Cui Se had sent her a video link previously, still saved in the cloud. Ying Yu clicked to download.
Someone knocked. Thinking it was the nurse coming to change her bandages, Ying Yu sat up. “Come in.”
The footsteps didn’t sound right.
She turned — and saw Zhou Chenyi, slightly out of breath, with a faint sheen of sweat on his forehead.
Ying Yu was lounging in loose long sleeves, half-leaning on a pillow, foot wrapped in gauze and sticking out, peeling a tangerine.
“What are you doing here? I heard from He Xini that you had a client today.”
Zhou Chenyi steadied his breathing, walked over, and picked up her medical chart. “Where are you hurt?”
“That horse stepped on my foot. I can’t put weight on it for now, but everything else’s fine. Le-ge told you, right? I told him he was overreacting — I’m totally fine.”
Good.
Zhou Chenyi let out a breath. The back of his suit jacket was soaked through. He took it off and placed it on the bed. Ying Yu looked at him, puzzled.
“When an employee gets hurt, it’s the boss’s job to check in.”
“…You didn’t have to rush like this though.”
He glanced at her, trying to shut her up with sheer presence. “I’m your creditor. Until your debt’s paid off, I need to ensure your personal safety.”
Truthfully, even Zhou Chenyi didn’t know why he’d come so fast.
He claimed he wasn’t looking for a relationship — yet he kept thinking about her.
It must be that Ying Yu was just too much trouble.
As a responsible boss, he simply couldn’t allow any risks to his employees.
Ying Yu, meanwhile, was poised with a fruit knife in one hand and a tangerine in the other.
“What are you doing?” Zhou Chenyi asked.
Ying Yu looked up from the video tutorial she’d watched twice and asked, “Do you like snakes?”
(He was born in the year of the snake.)
Zhou Chenyi raised an eyebrow, then shut it down flatly: “Trying to butter me up won’t work. No touching today.”
“I never said I wanted to touch you. Everyone likes this kind of snake.”
She then began following the video — making a snake out of two stacked oranges. One for the head, one for the body, each carved with little features and then joined together.
It looked round and quite cute.
“…”
His in-person meeting had been changed to a virtual one, so Zhou Chenyi sat at her bedside and opened his laptop.
Ying Yu heard him speaking fluent English, though she couldn’t quite follow. She muted herself and focused on carving the oranges.
It looked easy — but wasn’t.
The orange peel was thin, and if she slipped, the juice would spill out. She wanted it perfect since it was for Zhou Chenyi. Her first attempt failed. She started again — only to slip and nick her finger slightly.
“Sorry, wait a moment,” Zhou Chenyi said mid-call.
He took the orange and knife from her, continuing the meeting while carving with one hand.
Ying Yu rested her chin on her hand and watched in admiration.
Wow. He could multitask.
In his hands, the orange seemed much more cooperative.
Her foot only fit in a slipper right now. Zhou Chenyi wore leather shoes — probably from the same brand as his suit.
Ying Yu sneakily edged her foot toward his.
His foot was so much bigger than hers — no surprise, he was 20 cm taller.
Even while speaking fluent English, Zhou Chenyi was quietly carving an orange.
Well — he failed too.
Ying Yu burst out laughing.
Zhou Chenyi glanced at her: “What?”
She quickly shook her head and handed him a new orange.
At some point, Ying Yu fell asleep leaning against the bed.
When she woke, moonlight was filtering softly through the window curtains.
Zhou Chenyi had also fallen asleep, arm as his pillow.
The orange snake was done, with a cute little apple hat tilted on its head.
She secretly snapped a picture and set it as her phone wallpaper.
She loved cute things… and maybe, people too.
Moonlight hit his eyes, making him frown slightly.
Like a sloth, Ying Yu slowly lifted the blanket, hopped on one foot to his side, and stretched out her hand to block the light.
At first, she was simply admiring his handsome, sleeping face.
Then… she couldn’t resist reaching out.
Just as her fingers were about to touch his hair—
“1,500.”
“!”
Ying Yu yanked her hand back and scrambled onto her bed. “1,500 just to touch you? That’s robbery! Even the guy with abs I touched before didn’t charge me!”
“That’s my rate,” Zhou Chenyi said sleepily. “Cash for touch. Transfer the funds.”
Zhou the Scrooge! Just wait. Four more months and she’d have money. Then she’d touch all she wanted!
The movie had finished downloading. Ying Yu crossed her legs and cast her phone screen to the TV.
“What do you want to watch?” she asked. He had carved oranges, after all — the least she could do was let him pick.
Zhou Chenyi leaned back: “Horror movie?”
The list showed: One Frightful Day, The Legend of Legends, Don’t Speak in the Hospital, The Shadow in the Neighbor’s Home.
Ying Yu picked Don’t Speak in the Hospital. The title felt appropriately spooky for their current setting.
It took a moment to load. The screen was pitch-black. Only faint, rustling sounds came through. Very on-brand for a horror film.
She cranked the volume and grabbed a slice of pizza.
Zhou Chenyi had gone back to emailing foreign clients — but after a while, something felt off.
In the movie, a mute nurse brings something to the surgeon. The scene shifts to a shaking iron door outside… moaning and groaning sounds emerge.
“….”
A Japanese movie.
To be precise: a Japanese adult film.
Ying Yu had never eaten pork, but she’d seen pigs — she instantly knew what was happening.
Her face went red down to her neck. She frantically searched for the remote, not daring to look at Zhou Chenyi.
Why the hell did Cui Se send this kind of movie?!
The actors were already stripping on the metal hospital bed. Skin everywhere.
Ying Yu forgot about her injury, jumped out of bed, and shook the blanket.
Where’s the remote?!
Right before the climax, the sound cut off. Zhou Chenyi had unplugged the TV.
Thank god.
Ying Yu opened her mouth but couldn’t form words. The silence was suffocating.
“You—” They both spoke at once.
“Put on your shoes.” Zhou Chenyi bent down and placed her slippers by her feet.
Ying Yu licked her lips nervously. “Th-thanks…”
“This movie—”
“I clicked the wrong one! I didn’t know it was that! Don’t say anything!”
“I have work tomorrow. I’m heading out.”
“Right, right. Go.” She waved without meeting his eyes. Only when the door shut did she dare turn around.
Ying Yu deleted every video from her phone.
She almost messaged Cui Se to ask why, but ended up chickening out. Blushing, she buried her head in the pillow and didn’t sleep a wink.
It wasn’t a horror movie — but it sure scared them both.
Neither Zhou Chenyi nor Ying Yu slept that night.
Even after returning to Jin City, Zhou Chenyi was still wide awake. He got through the next day’s work like a machine — but couldn’t sleep.
He had to go to bed eventually.
The mattress was soft, but all he could see in his mind was that metal hospital bed.
He closed his eyes… and there she was, her hand sliding from his hair to his abs, fingers warm yet cool.
Zhou Chenyi rolled over, paused, then reluctantly got out of bed and walked into the bathroom — once again surrendering to the shower’s cold embrace.
