- Episode 21 - Practice Begins
In preparation for the sports festival, the cheerleading practice has begun.
Since third-year students have entrance exams, very few participate in the cheerleading squad. Most of them are first and second-year students.
During practice, no one wears their school uniforms, and everyone is in gym clothes.
“Momoka-chan”
Kusakabe raised only his right hand lightly and smiled. Just returning the smile, he felt a sharp gaze from Nagisa next to him.
On the first day of practice today, we will first receive basic instructions from the captain.
After that, we will assign roles. It seems that the cheerleading squad has various detailed tasks, not just flashy performances.
“Which committee are you aiming for, Momoka-chan?”
It’s not like he didn’t notice Nagisa’s gaze, yet Kusakabe sat down next to me.
Kusakabe and Nagisa glare at each other, with me in between.
I never would have imagined that I could come between these two.
“Momoka would prefer to be in the same group as me, right?”
Saying that, Nagisa tightly hugged my arm. Since the gym clothes are softer than the uniform shirt, I could feel the softness of Nagisa’s body.
“Hey, Momoka”
At Nagisa’s voice, which was like a plea, I immediately nodded.
Because if you were to be spoiled with a cute voice and face, there’s no way I could refuse.
Sigh.
I wish I could have said something that would make Nagisa more jealous.
I might have failed. But if I stir up too much jealousy, I’ll end up being hated. I need to find a good balance.
“Yuki-kun, which position are you aiming for?”
When I asked that, Nagisa immediately turned away. It was a clear indication that she had no interest in Kusakabe at all.
“Maybe a ball toss. Counting sounds fun.”
The cheerleader in charge of the ball-tossing event counts the number of balls in the basket of their assigned team.
In the meantime, the one who attracts everyone’s attention is the cheerleader.
The other roles mostly involve refereeing and support, so they don’t stand out much.
It’s a typical attention-seeking wish from Kusakabe.
Even if I think that inside, I won’t say it out loud. With a smile on my face, I nodded and said, “Okay.”
“Unlike me, you’re good at sports, you have stamina, and I think Yuki-kun would be great for the cheerleading squad.”
It was a compliment said casually, but Kusakabe seemed unexpectedly flustered.
As I was wondering, Kusakabe said in a small voice.
“Momoka-chan, you really seem to be watching me a lot, huh?”
Ah, so that’s how it is.
The reason I know a lot about Kusakabe is because I remember the stories I heard from Nagisa in the past.
The characteristics of the detestable man that my beloved person spoke of so fondly, I remembered them after just hearing them once.
“Really? Maybe it just catches my eye somehow.”
It shouldn’t be too obvious. Just let your affection subtly seep through in a natural way.
And there, I won’t add any forced romantic undertones.
“Wow, that’s nice to hear.”
When Kusakabe blushed, Nagisa gently took my hand.
“Hey, what should we do about our first choice?”
Nagisa, who overly emphasizes “our,” is so cute. Would saying “anything is fine as long as it’s with Nagisa” be too sweet of a response?
“Anyone who likes Nagisa is fine.”
“Since we’re doing it anyway, let’s do what we both want!”
Nagisa’s argument is valid. Nodding in agreement, I ponder over the responsibilities of the cheerleading squad.
What should I choose to get closest to Nagisa?
“Let’s make the best memories!”
Saying that, Nagisa broke into a pure smile. I felt an urge to hug her right away, so I gently bit the inside of my lip.
