In My Second Life, I'll Do Everything To Win You Over—My Beloved Childhood Friend Will Never Be Given To Anyone Else - Episode 26
The cheerleading practice is quite tough. Of course, the practice itself is hard, but what makes it especially tough is practicing on the field.
It is currently mid-May, and we have not yet welcomed summer. Nevertheless, the piercingly sharp sunlight is more than enough to drain my physical and mental energy.
“Really, it’s hot…”
Muttering, I let out a sigh. If Nagisa were next to me, I might still be able to endure it, but unfortunately, Nagisa isn’t here today.
I had to retake the math quiz, so I’m taking the retest in the classroom.
Nagisa was reluctant, but honestly, I was envious. If it meant being in the cool classroom, I should have failed the quiz too.
“Why are you wearing long sleeves when it’s so hot?”
Saying that, Kusakabe came next to me. Perhaps because Nagisa wasn’t there, the distance was a bit closer than usual.
In the center of the field, the leader and the core members are demonstrating a sample performance.
“If I wear short sleeves, I’ll get sunburned.”
“Isn’t sunscreen enough?”
“It’s not that it doesn’t work, but it’s not perfect either.”
Most of the students on the field are wearing short sleeves. Even so, everyone is sweating quite a bit.
I’m not particularly good with heat, so wearing long sleeves is quite tough for me. I’m drenched in sweat, and it feels like I’m going to get heat rash all over my body.
“Even if you get a little sunburned, you’re still cute.”
Being able to casually say lines like this is probably one of Kusakabe’s good points.
Combined with their appearance and demeanor, they don’t come across as overly aggressive.
“Thank you. But I don’t want to get sunburned.”
The more I get to know him, the more I think that Kusakabe is a good person and a good man…
If the previous me knew about this, I might think that I could trust Nagisa without worry.
But anyway, I will probably leave Nagisa to Kusakabe and give up on my own life.
No matter how good Kusakabe is, I can’t live in a world where anyone other than me is happy with Nagisa.
“Why don’t you want to get so tanned?”
“I wonder if the white one would suit me better.”
“Hmm. Could it be that someone you like said that to you?”
He’s a perceptive man. Yes, the reason I’m desperately trying to maintain my fair skin is because Nagisa complimented it.
“Could it be that I’m spot on?”
“Then?”
“If it were me, I’d compliment Touka-chan on how cute she looks with a tan. Maybe I should run for it.”
“Running for office?”
Dangerous. At this rate, I’ll get caught up in Kusakabe’s pace.
Right now, it’s bad if we go any further.
“It’s better not to say too many overly optimistic things.”
Before I could hear Kusakabe’s answer, I said that.
“I don’t just tell anyone, you know.”
Saying that, Kusakabe chuckled softly.
♡
“Momoka!”
When half of the practice time had passed, Nagisa hurriedly came to the field.
Since a few others are also running over, there must have been a decent number of retakers in the cheering squad.
“Again, I was with this guy.”
Looking at the grass wall, Nagisa makes an obviously displeased face.
“That’s not how you should say it.”
With a wry smile, Kusakabe said, and Nagisa turned away with a sulky expression.
“Really, I must be disliked by Fujimiya-san.”
Kusakabe muttered with a chuckle. In agreement, Nagisa lightly glared at Fujimiya.
But… how should I put it, the atmosphere between the two of them isn’t that tense. Maybe it’s because Kusakabe said it in a joking manner?
“It’s because you keep getting close to my Momoka!”
“No, no, you shouldn’t treat Momoka like an object.”
The two glared at each other. I felt left out and dizzy.
This is bad. What should I do? I’m scared.
I’m scared that the two of them will get close.
Come to think of it, even in the world we used to be in, the two of them always used to have these light-hearted exchanges like this.
We were teased by other classmates for being so close that we would fight.
My vision is spinning.
“Momoka!?”
“Momoka-chan!?”
At the same time I heard the two of them sounding anxious, my vision went completely dark.
