- Episode 38 - It Will Become A Memory
It’s hot. Too hot. I feel like going home right now and eating shaved ice in an air-conditioned room.
“Momoka, are you okay?”
“Oh, yeah. It’s just a bit hot.”
When I replied, Nagisa fanned me with the hand-held fan she was holding. When I thanked her, she fanned me even harder.
We are currently in the first aid tent. It’s an easier job compared to other roles since we just have to wait inside the tent.
However, we can’t stay in the tent all the time. There are times when we have to leave the tent to cheer and shout in the blazing sun.
After all, being in a cheerleading squad just doesn’t suit me at all.
Even though I had no work, I was exhausted every year just from the heat.
“Isn’t it almost time for Momoka’s turn?”
Looking at the printed program, Nagisa said.
“Yeah”
The number of events one participates in varies from person to person. At the very least, there is a rule that one must participate in at least one event.
What I am participating in is the ball-tossing game.
“When Momoka won the rock-paper-scissors for the ball-tossing game, it was so funny.”
Did she remember? Nagisa chuckled softly. Even when I told her to stop, she wouldn’t.
When I won at rock-paper-scissors and it was decided that I could safely participate in the ball-tossing game, I couldn’t help but do a big fist pump.
It’s not because I love ball-tossing and absolutely wanted to do it. It’s because I didn’t want to do any other events.
Blending in with the crowd is possible during ball-tossing or tug-of-war.
However, in tug-of-war, it’s obvious that my lack of strength is holding everyone back.
There was no choice but to play tug-of-war.
“I’m cheering for you!”
Thank you.
“I’ll call your name out loud.”
“Please stop that, it’s embarrassing.”
♡
I told you to stop, didn’t I?
I let out a sigh at the loud cheers coming from behind me.
“Momoka! Do your best!!”
“If it’s Momoka-chan, she can do it!”
It’s Nagisa and Kusakabe. To make matters worse, they’re raising their voices more and more as if they’re competing with each other.
To be cheered for as an individual in a game like this, it’s really going to stand out, isn’t it?
I want you to stop right now, but if I shout “Stop!” it will just draw more attention.
I have no choice but to give up and wait for the ball toss to start.
♡
It’s over.
Moreover, despite receiving loud cheers, I ended up with an average score.
“Good job, Momoka!”
When I returned to the tent, I was greeted by a smiling Nagisa. She showed me a photo of me throwing a ball, saying, “I took a picture.”
“Don’t take pictures like this.”
“Eh, it’s fine. It’s a memory, right? You’ll be grateful for having taken it someday!”
I was about to say, “No way…” but I froze.
I remembered when Nagisa, who was preparing for her wedding, asked me, “Do you have any photos from high school?”
The wedding I didn’t attend.
I wonder if a lot of photos from Nagisa and Kusakabe’s high school days were used there.
In the first place, would Nagisa have been able to hold the wedding without me if I had died? When did Nagisa find out that I had committed suicide?
“Momoka? What’s wrong all of a sudden?”
“No, it’s nothing. I just thought that having more photos would be better.”
“Right?”
Nagisa smiled and suddenly took my picture. It probably won’t turn out well.
But well, it might become a memory, including that.
“It’s about time for Nagisa to make her appearance, right?”
“Yeah, cheer loudly for me, okay?”
“I don’t know if I’ll be loud, but I’ll support you.”
“Alright, I’m off!”
Waving her hand vigorously, Nagisa headed towards the field.
Nagisa’s event is the borrowed item race.
