- Chapter 22 - Just This Handsome Guy, So Refreshing!!
Hearing Jiang Changyi’s permission, Chu Yesheng’s eyes curved into a smile.
From beneath the thin black mask came his low, deep voice of thanks—
“Thank you, Master.”
“It’s nothing, just lending a hand.”
Jiang Changyi waved his hand dismissively, but inside, his heart was leaping with joy.
Refreshing!
This master–servant relationship is so refreshing!!
Turns out contracting a handsome guy really was the right choice!!!
That voice, that face, that body—who wouldn’t strut around showing off if they had this?
Jiang Changyi even wanted to wear a mask himself to cover up the grin on his face. It was just too damn satisfying!
God knows what kind of clients he used to meet while working at the Black Horse club. Saying they were toads would be an insult to frogs.
Have you ever seen a 200-pound square-shaped man who hasn’t bathed for a week, shows up in slippers, and still goes to a bar?
Jiang Changyi had.
And his coworkers even pushed him out to “serve with a smile.” If he didn’t let them take advantage, they’d pick faults and make trouble.
Of course, there were also bald old men with wandering hands, or genteel-looking types who opened their mouths only to reveal rows of yellow teeth.
In short, Jiang Changyi had really suffered enough of that misery.
All the decent clients had long been snatched up by cliquish coworkers, leaving only these rotten old geezers to be shoved onto Jiang Changyi. For the sake of making money to support his whole family, he could only grit his teeth, swallow the discomfort, and smile in service.
But one line he never crossed: Jiang Changyi would never sell his soul just for money. That was his bottom line.
……
One drawback of the apocalypse happening on a weekend was that shopping malls were full of people—and with people came lots of monsters.
Looking at the throng of zombies crowding the mall, Jiang Changyi fell silent.
He’d planned to do a little zero-yuan shopping, but why were there so many roadblocks?!
Chu Yesheng noticed his worry and spoke up to ease it: “Master, I have two plans. Which one do you want to pick?”
“Oh?”
Jiang Changyi leaned in to listen. Ten minutes later, the two of them were sneaking back to the mall entrance.
With a quick hand seal from Chu Yesheng, an explosion rang out on the far side of the mall.
That was the explosive talisman he had planted earlier. Once activated, it detonated, and the zombie horde immediately rushed toward the source of the noise, leaving chaos in their wake.
“Go!”
Chu Yesheng charged in front, clearing a path for Jiang Changyi and slashing down sluggish monsters.
Meanwhile, Lio flew around Jiang Changyi, guarding him from sneak attacks.
Jiang Changyi kept his footsteps quiet as he followed behind Chu Yesheng, quietly sweeping goods from open storefronts into his contract space.
“This store, this one! Their sneakers are crazy stylish!!”
“And this brand! Their athletic wear is super cool!!!”
“Ugh… I want these clothes too!”
Guided by Jiang Changyi’s excited pointing, they went store by store. His drooling commentary never stopped.
Though Chu Yesheng found Jiang Changyi’s choice of words a little odd, he still followed along, plundering with him.
Food, men’s clothing, women’s clothing, children’s clothing—Jiang Changyi even grabbed daily necessities like sanitary pads.
After sweeping through half the mall, the two of them and the beast quickly left and hid in an empty parking garage.
“Alright, Yesheng, try on your new shoes.” Jiang Changyi looked at him with bright anticipation.
“Okay.”
Beneath his mask, Chu Yesheng’s cheeks turned faintly red. He leaned against the wall while Jiang Changyi helped him remove the old shoes borrowed from Jiang’s roommate. Jiang Changyi immediately tossed them far away in distaste.
“Try these—classic black-red combo. Simple, stylish, can’t go wrong!”
“And this pair, shiny black basketball shoes—they totally match your vibe!”
Jiang Changyi carefully selected pairs, helping Chu Yesheng try them on one by one.
Chu Yesheng’s face showed a shy, expectant look, awkward but unable to refuse Jiang’s goodwill—a kind of stiff-but-cute charm.
Was this… gap moe?
Jiang Changyi pursed his lips, savoring Chu Yesheng’s tall, lean build, and finally decided: “This pair. Matches your socks perfectly.”
Chu Yesheng tapped his toes. The black glossy surface of the sneakers reflected faint highlights under the light, giving the black-and-white high-tops a subtle but classy feel. They went perfectly with his all-black outfit. The high tops with black mid-calf socks also made his long legs look even longer.
“Alright.”
Chu Yesheng lifted his hand, intending to pat Jiang Changyi’s shoulder to thank him—Jiang had really gathered a lot of children’s shoes, toys, and books for him too.
But Jiang Changyi misunderstood the gesture, thinking he wanted a hug—and promptly threw himself into Chu Yesheng’s arms.
“Mm…”
Chu Yesheng felt the warm softness of a cheek against his chest. Surprisingly, the man who usually disliked physical contact felt no resistance at all.
“Hehe.”
Chu Yesheng let out a quiet chuckle, eyes full of indulgence as he reached out to stroke the back of Jiang Changyi’s head.
Feeling the muscle contours beneath his cheek, Jiang Changyi buried his face even deeper. This was strength in the flesh—having him around meant no need to worry about safety in the apocalypse.
Heheheh…
Contractors really are the best awakened profession in the world!!!
Deep in his mind, the still-sealed spirit Kiran: …
Kiran: …Who the hell told you contract summoning is used like this?!!
Kiran: The proud legacy of us great Contractors—!!!
Kiran: Ruined… all ruined!!
But Jiang Changyi couldn’t care less. Even if he knew of Kiran’s complaints, he wouldn’t mind. Life only has about thirty thousand days—living happily is what matters most.
Before the apocalypse he was pushed down at every turn, but after the apocalypse he was going to live as freely as he pleased!
Chu Yesheng didn’t change clothes—otherwise Jiang Changyi would’ve had him swap into half the wardrobe they just grabbed, which would’ve taken forever. Better to get home before dark.
Jiang Changyi hadn’t forgotten Lio either. He picked out a sapphire pendant as big as a pigeon egg and hung it around Lio’s neck—it looked pretty good.
“Lio~ Lio~ (Thank you, Master~ I love you the most~)”
Lio’s eyes sparkled like a cartoon character from an anime, unbearably cute.
Jiang Changyi patted his head, then realized the motion felt familiar—Chu Yesheng had just patted his head the same way.
Uh…
Why did it suddenly feel like the three of them were a family of three?
Shaking off the strange thought, Jiang Changyi led his man and beast away.
“Come on, we… should go home.” Though he didn’t say it out loud, his heart was anxious about the situation at home.
He had sent the warning message early, but accidents could always happen. Best to get back as soon as possible.
“Alright.”
“Lio~”
This time they didn’t plunder as flamboyantly as they had in the mall, moving cautiously to avoid drawing a massive zombie horde.
