In this Second Chance at Life, where I can see skills as clear as day, everything feels like a breeze. And to make it even better, I’m spending my days joyfully with my First Love. - Chapter 5
Starting elementary school didn’t bring much change to my daily routine.
I still woke up at six, ran through the neighborhood for an hour, ate breakfast, did some light muscle training, and then sprinted to school. The distance between home and school is about 1km, and now I can cover it in just four minutes.
During class, I passed the time by manipulating and observing magic or using [Appraisal] to identify the names of my classmates and teachers. First-grade lessons—writing hiragana and katakana or adding single digits—offered no challenge. Honestly, I wanted to slip out and train my body instead, but that wasn’t an option. So, I focused on honing my magic manipulation skills during school hours.
Growth in Body and Magic
This consistent training led to significant improvements in both my magical power and manipulation skills since entering elementary school. Still, I believe the body is the most important foundation. That’s why I devoted my lunch breaks to running laps around the schoolyard or doing pull-ups on the horizontal bars. With less time for training overall, I aimed to make each session as effective as possible.
In general, my elementary school life felt productive. However, there were some minor irritations.
First, the school lunches. Initially, I felt nostalgic, but by the third day, I was done. Sweet curry, sugary orange salad, and soggy barley rice—all utterly unappetizing.
Second, the occasional remarks from my teacher, like, “Why don’t you play with your friends sometimes?” It’s not like I had any. In my previous life, I vaguely remember having one or two friends in elementary school, but those friendships wouldn’t start until later grades.
Three Months of Intense Training
With my birthday quietly passing and no friendships to maintain, I dedicated the last three months to training. Here are the results:
Name: Yasushi Sashima
Stamina: 39/42
Strength: 36
Magic Power: 42
Agility: 36
Level: 1
Job: None
Skills:
• [Appraisal Lv. 6]
• [Agility Enhancement Lv. 3]
• [Stamina Enhancement Lv. 4]
• [Strength Enhancement Lv. 3]
• [Super Recovery Lv. 6]
• [Calculation Lv. 9]
• [Mental Resistance Lv. 7]
• [Magic Enhancement Lv. 4]
• [Farming Lv. 4]
Unique Skill: [Repeated Trials]
A Significant Upgrade: “Augmentation” Skills
The old “Correction” skills evolved into “Augmentation” skills, which provide even greater benefits. These skills enhance stats using the formula: base stat + (Lv × 0.5 × base stat). For example, with [Stamina Enhancement Lv. 4], my stamina is effectively tripled, as the added value is twice the base stat.
At Level 4, this 3x multiplier is amazing. Even at Level 1, where the enhancement rate drops to 1.5x, the effect is still impressive. To put it into perspective, my current strength rivals that of a middle school athlete in an athletic club.
This insight came courtesy of [Appraisal], which now, at Level 6, allows me to see other people’s stats. Even so, I realized that I was still weaker than my dad—who isn’t particularly athletic—though I could almost match him with the enhancements.
Tremendous Magical Growth
In contrast, my magical power growth was extraordinary. Previously, I likened my magic to a small flame or bonfire, but as my capacity increased, so did the amount I could control. Now, it feels more like a viscous liquid, almost impossible to describe.
The increased volume gave magic a tangible sense of mass. When I wrapped it around my body, it felt slightly heavy and had an odd, dry-slime texture. While its practical applications remained unclear, it made for excellent practice and an amusing way to kill time during class.
Though fun, magic hasn’t shown much practical use yet. Perhaps with more training, I could unlock new possibilities.
The Steady Grind
Despite the upgrades in my skills, my pace of improvement hadn’t slowed. In fact, it felt like it was accelerating. This might be due to my unique skill, [Repeated Trials].
In my previous life, I enjoyed repetitive tasks, but I never improved this quickly. Maybe the skill itself was evolving, or perhaps just being aware of it enhanced its effects. Either way, I felt lucky to benefit from it.
The clear correlation between effort and results—reflected in my stats and skills—was a strong motivator to keep pushing forward.
Today marks the start of summer vacation!
During the first semester, I was confined to nearly four hours of class daily. This left less time for physical training, and as a result, my magic level caught up with my physical stats. If I continue focusing on magic during school hours, I’ll likely become a magic specialist within the next six years.
That’s why I plan to train my strength, agility, and stamina as much as possible during breaks. And, of course, I hope to acquire some new skills soon.
With these goals in mind, I’m ready to dive into a summer filled with leveling up. But first, I’ll get my summer homework out of the way—it’s better to prepare early so I can focus fully on my training later!
