- Inn Overlord: Reincarnated with Enhancement Magic, Now Worshipped as a Divine Messenger!
- Chapter 21 - Expansion Plan
Early in the morning, I took the leftovers from yesterday, put them on a plate, and headed to the barn where Luka had been before transforming into a human. There, I found Vilkasys’ Orma. I gave Orma breakfast.
As Orma happily ate, I stroked his fluffy head, enjoying the soft feeling to the fullest.
Now, it was about time for David to come out.
Before preparing Orma’s breakfast, I had gone to David’s room under the stairs on the first floor to discuss a room where Jeanne could stay.
David, still half-asleep, had said, “I was thinking about that too…” and then asked me to feed Orma first while he got ready.
David soon arrived, dressed as usual, with a hand axe in his hand.
“Alright! Here’s today’s mission!”
I listened carefully.
The mission was to expand the inn.
Since the inn had been making good profits, David had already been planning an expansion. Now that Luka and Jeanne had joined us, the plan was moving forward sooner than expected.
“Alright! Let’s go cut some trees!!”
We went to cut the trees we had permission to use. While we were excited about the work, our job mainly consisted of gathering wood and stone. The rest was left to the village carpenters.
I didn’t know much about construction, but according to the carpenters and David, the expansion would be done in a half-timber style, with half wood and half stone.
Our inn, The Black Piglet, was rectangular in shape, with the entrance slightly to the right along the long side of the rectangle. When you walked through the door, you could see the tavern seating, the open second floor, and the high ceiling. At the back of the seating area was a counter, and behind that was the kitchen. Above the counter and kitchen were the second-floor guest rooms, making that section of the ceiling lower compared to the open space.
The left side of the seating area also had second-floor guest rooms, supported by columns. Drunk customers sometimes bumped into them. To the right of the entrance was a staircase, which the guests used to get to their rooms. My mother and I also used that staircase when we went to bed.
The expansion would be on the right side of the inn. First, we would build the new section and then break down the right-side wall to connect it. This way, we wouldn’t have to close the inn during construction.
Just as David and I were about to go cut trees, Luka and Jeanne arrived.
“We’ll help too!”
“Please let us assist you!”
With the two of them joining us, we headed to the entrance of the Demon Forest, where we had permission to cut trees.
“Jeanne, how was yesterday’s work?”
“Yes! There were a lot of new things to learn, but more than that, I really enjoyed talking with so many customers! It was a fresh and fun experience!”
“I see, that’s good! But sometimes, we get unpleasant customers… like adventurers who are rude. No matter how angry you get, never lay a hand on them, okay?”
“Understood!”
I also told Luka the same thing.
“That goes for you too, Luka!”
“Okaaay~!”
“Both of you are really cute and beautiful, so I’m really worried that some unpleasant customers might try to flirt with you…”
The two reacted to my words.
“Hehehe~ So, Luka is cute~? Hehehe~”
“Ahh, Seraph-sama… How merciful…”
Luka skipped along with a dazed expression, while Jeanne clasped her hands together as if in prayer.
…Yeah. I was really worried.
I suddenly remembered something I wanted to tell them.
“Oh yeah, you two are supposed to be my cousins, right?”
Ruka was supposed to be the daughter of my mother’s sister, and since Jeanne was Ruka’s older sister, that made sense.
“S-Seraph’s cousin… Ahh, what an honor… But if that means I can treat Seraph like a younger brother… perhaps…”
Jeanne wiped her slightly damp lips. I spoke up.
“That’s the thing. If you’re my cousins, maybe you should stop calling me ‘Seraph-sama’ with such formality?”
Every time they called me that, it made me feel really uncomfortable. Maybe my mother felt the same way whenever someone called her beautiful.
At my suggestion, the two immediately responded.
“That’s impossible!!”
“That cannot be!!”
They both stepped closer to me.
“Eh… why?”
“Because Seraph-sama is like a god to us!!”
“Seraph-sama is our divine being!!”
At that moment, I realized their deep devotion wouldn’t waver. David, who had been listening to our conversation, spoke up.
“Then, Seraph, why don’t you work in the kitchen?”
Instead of serving customers, I would work in the kitchen, preparing food. That way, customers wouldn’t hear Ruka and Jeanne calling me ‘Seraph-sama’ all the time.
“Huh?! Really?!”
“Of course! You said before that you wanted me to teach you how to cook.”
That was true. I had always wanted to learn how to cook from David. I admired how he made customers happy with his food without using magic, even though I could enhance things with my magic. I had also seen him lead us bravely in the Forbidden Forest before.
I liked David even more now.
“Yay!!”
As I cheered, Jeanne and Luka muttered:
“So, this is farewell to Seraph-sama…”
“I wanted to serve customers with Seraph-sama a little longer…”
Hearing that from them made me feel strangely happy. After thanking them, we arrived at the entrance of the Forbidden Forest, where we had permission to cut trees.
