Inn Overlord: Reincarnated with Enhancement Magic, Now Worshipped as a Divine Messenger! - Chapter 22
Seraph’s Perspective
We arrived at the entrance of the enchanted forest, where we had permission to cut down trees.
David took the hand axe he was carrying and started cutting down a tree.
“Alright!!”
He shouted as he struck the blade of the hand axe against the tree several times. He began carving a triangular notch into the trunk. Once the cut reached about one-third of the way through, David moved to the other side.
Then, he explained to us.
“When cutting down a tree, first, you make a triangular notch in the direction you want it to fall.”
The three of us nodded.
David then walked around to the opposite side of the tree and instructed us to follow him.
“Next, you cut a little above the notch on the opposite side.”
David adjusted his grip on the hand axe and began cutting the tree horizontally.
Once he had cut about halfway through, he explained again.
“You don’t connect this cut directly to the notch. Instead, you leave a small part untouched. This helps the tree fall slowly and safely.”
The three of us nodded in admiration.
David then took out a wooden wedge and lightly inserted it into the horizontal cut. Using a wooden mallet called a genno, he hammered the wedge in deeper.
After a few hits, David called out.
“It’s coming down! Watch out!!”
The tree creaked and fell to the ground with a heavy thud.
“Oooohhh!!”
“That’s amazing! So amazing!♪”
“This is fascinating.”
We all reacted differently but clapped in excitement.
“Alright! Seraph, you try next!”
I took the hand axe from David and struck the trunk of a tree.
“First, make a notch in the direction you want it to fall!”
However, with just one strike, the tree split clean in half. The force of my swing was so strong that several trees behind it also got cut down.
“Oh no!!?”
David was frozen in shock, while Luka and Jeanne clapped their hands and cheered, “As expected of you!”
Recently, my body reinforcement magic had been lasting longer than usual. It seemed like my body had become permanently stronger. I knew this wasn’t just an extended effect of reinforcement magic because I could still stack additional reinforcement on top.
Next, Luka took the hand axe. She raised it toward the tree she was going to cut and declared:
“Alright! I won’t lose to Seraph!”
At that moment, both David and I had a bad feeling.
Luka started gathering an absurd amount of magic power. I tried to stop her, telling her to hold back, but it was already too late. She swung the hand axe.
A fan-shaped clearing formed, with Luka at the center. Dozens of trees had been cut down, leaving an open space that resembled a baseball stadium.
David and I stood there, mouths agape, unable to process what had just happened. Meanwhile, Jeanne clapped her hands.
“Well done, Lady Luka. Now, it’s my turn—”
I thought to myself.
—This is way too much… We’re definitely going to get in trouble…
I glanced at David. He was completely frozen. Luka, on the other hand, rubbed her head against my right cheek, looking for praise.
“Was I amazing? Luka amazing?”
She probably wanted me to pat her head. Half in shock, I patted her and said, “Yeah, amazing…” while trying to figure out what to do next.
As I was lost in thought, I suddenly felt an enormous surge of magic power.
The source was Jeanne. She originally had wind magic as a griffon. I hurriedly tried to stop her.
“Hold bac—”
Before I could finish, she had already gathered an incredible amount of magic into the hand axe. Her magic felt even more refined than Luka’s. Then, she swung it.
A straight path was carved through the enchanted forest. The newly formed road stretched all the way to the horizon.
Jeanne approached me with sparkling eyes.
“How was that, Seraph!? Do you think I was useful!?”
She just wanted to show me that she could be helpful. Her feelings were pure, with no ill intent. Besides, Luka and Jeanne had only recently turned into humans.
I couldn’t bring myself to scold them.
“…U-Uh, yeah. That was amazing, Jeanne.”
Jeanne’s face lit up in bliss.
“Ahh, Seraph… What an honor to receive such words from you… I, Jeanne, feel an overwhelming happiness knowing that I was able to help Seraph…”
