Inn Overlord: Reincarnated with Enhancement Magic, Now Worshipped as a Divine Messenger! - Chapter 26
(Seraph’s Perspective)
The expansion of our buildings has been delayed because we cut down too many trees. As a result, Jeanne and I became closer, and we took turns sleeping in the bed and on the floor.
The wooden defensive wall around the village was coming along well. We weren’t just enclosing the village itself—we were building it with extra space in mind so that we could expand our homes in the future. The villagers had discussed this and decided that they wanted to make the village bigger someday. The village chief’s conservative family was against the idea, but the villagers agreed that they should secure enough living space while building the wall.
Everything was going smoothly with our efforts to stay hidden—until Abigail caught a cold.
Luka, Jeanne, and I slightly opened the door to Abigail’s room and peeked inside.
She looked like she was in pain as she slept, and we could do nothing for her.
“Lady Abigail looks like she’s suffering…”
“Ahh, Lady Abigail… If possible, I would take her place…”
Maybe if I used body enhancement and magic reinforcement spells, she would get better. But I hadn’t tested it enough to be sure. Just then, Laura walked up behind us, closed the door, and said:
“Alright, it’s business time! You guys need to prove that we can still run things without Abby, so she won’t worry!”
Laura took care of Abigail’s tasks in between her own duties, while Luka and Jeanne helped Laura with her work. I fed the Ouma and went to buy ale.
At the monastery, I prayed in front of the goddess statue, asking for Abigail to recover as soon as possible. I also bought three barrels of ale from the priest, instead of the usual amount.
As I carried the barrels of ale, I thought to myself:
—What do people eat when they have a cold?
Then, I remembered. When I was in Japan, my grandmother used to make me a special drink.
—It was a mix of lemon, ginger, and honey.
As I carried the barrels, I kept thinking.
—We have citrus fruits similar to lemons, and we have ginger, which we use for ginger sauté…
The problem was the honey.
After finishing my errand, I went back and asked Luka and Jeanne, who were cleaning the floor.
“Hey, you two?”
“Yes?”
“What is it?”
“Do you know what honey is?”
“Honey?”
“Honey…”
Luka tilted his head, looking at me with his usual big, round eyes. Jeanne, on the other hand, put a hand on her chin and started thinking. Their reactions were different, but neither of them seemed to know what honey was.
Then, Laura walked in carrying two buckets.
I asked her, “Laura, do you know what honey is?”
“Honey?”
Since she looked unsure, I explained further.
“It’s a thick, sweet liquid made by insects from flower nectar!”
“Oh, you mean ‘honey’?”
It seemed that in this world, honey was called “honey” too.
“Yes, that! Do we have any here?”
“Only nobles have something that rare!”
“Huh… It’s that valuable?”
I muttered in disappointment, and Laura handed us the buckets.
“Here, go fetch some water with these.”
This was one of Laura’s usual tasks. Luka and Jeanne took the buckets.
“Seraph, show them where to get the water.”
—Ugh, what a pain…
Maybe my face showed how I felt, because Laura smirked and said:
“Oh? You look like you’re thinking, ‘Ugh, what a pain’?”
“N-No way! That’s not it at all! C’mon, Luka, Jeanne! Let’s go!”
“Okay!♪”
“Yes!”
We walked to the riverside together.
As we walked, Luka asked:
“Seraph, Seraph?”
“Hmm? What is it?”
“Is that honey stuff tasty?”
Luka was always curious when it came to food.
“Yeah, it’s sweet and really good for your body.”
“Ehehe~ Sounds yummy…”
Luka started drooling, imagining the taste of honey.
—That’s not very ladylike, Luka…
Then, Jeanne spoke up.
“There are monsters in the Demon Forest that collect nectar from flowers and tree sap. Do you think the stuff they make is the same as this honey?”
Luka and I immediately perked up at her words.
“Jeanne! Tell us more!”
“Yes, tell us everything!”
