Jeanne thinly sliced a lemon and placed three slices into a cup, then added plenty of honey. Luka grated some ginger and mixed everything with hot water.

The steam carried a scent that seemed to warm not just the body, but also the heart.

We handed the drink to Abigail, who had just woken up.

Luka, Jeanne, and I watched her closely as she took a sip. Luka was so nervous about her reaction that she clung to my arm as if she couldn’t bear the suspense. Jeanne also held her breath, anxiously waiting for Abigail’s response.

It was a simple drink, but for both of them, it was their first time making something for someone else. I remembered feeling the same way when I first cooked for Mom—worried about her reaction, just like they were now.

Abigail took a sip of the ginger honey lemon juice and said,

“It’s delicious…”

Luka and Jeanne’s faces lit up with relief and joy. I felt the same way.

Luka and Jeanne eagerly spoke up.

“I grated the ginger!!”

“I sliced the lemon!!”

Abigail smiled and said,

“You both did great. Thank you.”

“Should we try drinking it too? Let’s make some for Mom and the others.”

We called Mom, Laura, and David, then made ginger honey lemon juice for everyone.

Each person took a sip and reacted in their own way.

“It smells so nice…”

“This is really good!”

“It’s so calming.”

Unlike the five of us, Laura had a different reaction.

“Wait… Is this honey?”

Luka answered cheerfully,

“Where did you get it?”

Laura and David were shocked by her words.

Luka tilted her head in confusion.

She went to the kitchen, brought out the bucket, and placed it on the table.

Laura stared at the bucket full of honey as if she were looking at a pile of treasure.

“T-This alone is worth 50 gold coins…”

“Huh?”

“What?”

“Hmm?”

“Excuse me?”

“Wait, what…?”

Realizing the value of what we had, we quickly hid the bucket in the kitchen so no guests would see it.
