Inn Overlord: Reincarnated with Enhancement Magic, Now Worshipped as a Divine Messenger! - Chapter 31
(Seraph’s Point of View)
I didn’t know what would happen next.
The next day came. After I gave breakfast to Orma, a visitor came early in the morning.
It was the carpenter, Mr. Toryo.
“Seraph, sorry about yesterday.”
Mr. Toryo said that and scratched the back of his head. He came to fix the hole in the floor that opened up when he punched an adventurer yesterday. He said he left the wall repair to his apprentice, Mr. Shide. I said,
“Yesterday was intense, wasn’t it? Were you an adventurer in the past or something, Mr. Toryo?”
“Nah~ not at all. I’ve always been just a carpenter. Yesterday, Shide told me I slammed that young adventurer into the floor and I was shocked too~. Anyway, do you still have that tasty crab sashimi today?”
I never explained that the ‘crab’ is actually a land crab. There’s still some sashimi left, but in a world without refrigerators, keeping sashimi fresh is very hard. I used enchantment magic to freeze water and made a simple freezer to store it.
Mr. Toryo seems to really like the crab sashimi now.
“Today will be the last day for the crab sashimi. Tomorrow, I’m thinking of putting it inside croquettes.”
“Ohh, that sounds delicious too!!”
“So please fix the floor quickly, okay? ♪︎”
“Got it!”
After I said goodbye to Mr. Toryo, I started making soy sauce. Then I went to the army ants to ask for information, monster meat, and materials. I might also ask them to get more land crabs if they find any.
On the way to the Demon Forest, I thought about what happened with the adventurers yesterday.
I was really angry at them. I also wonder what kind of punishment they’ll get. What if they give this inn or village a bad name and more rude people come? What if they hurt my family? What would I feel then? What would I do? Just thinking about it made my chest hurt.
But I stayed hopeful, thinking that Mr. Albert and the others would handle it well.
Of course, I still worry about what will happen to my family and the village in the future. But I also can’t stop thinking about what happened yesterday with Mr. Hazan the farmer and Mr. Toryo the carpenter.
—This world is full of monsters. I guess protecting yourself is normal here… Still, those adventurers were really weak…
I stood in front of several army ants and contacted the queen ant through them.
Many adventurers are going into the Demon Forest to research it, but the army ants are doing a good job making it look like a normal forest. The queen ant and I were worried about high-level monsters coming from deeper inside the forest, or Lydia Kreil from the Harmonia’s Three Great Divine Bards doing something strange. But for now, nothing has happened.
That actually makes it creepier. We can’t help but wonder if something is secretly happening behind the scenes while we think everything’s fine.
But that’s exactly why we’re building walls and keeping in regular contact with the army ants.
And so, today also started without trouble. I went back to the inn.
—Ah, the floor is fixed…

(Adventurer Albert’s Point of View)
Today, after we finished checking the Demon Forest, we picked up the three adventurers being held in the village chief’s underground prison. Then we headed to the city of Barmuller, where the Adventurer Guild is.
The three adventurers followed our orders more easily than expected. Nothing happened on the way. We just kept heading toward the city.
In the end, we didn’t really get to see the full strength of David the Mighty, a former B-rank adventurer, or Laura the mage, a former C-rank. This village is a good one. Peaceful, full of nature, with kind people. And most of all, the food is delicious.
Especially at the ‘Black Piglet Inn.’
That inn is just as good, if not better, than the ones in the royal or imperial capitals. The food, the service, and the kind-hearted women working there…
It would be a real shame if anything happened to them.
I really hope we can get those recipes and keep the girls safe. But I also have a good reputation in this business. People trust how I do my jobs. And in this business, trust means everything. So I must let go of useless feelings.
And yesterday, I got some unexpected information.
When I returned to the village for the final meeting with the client, I was surprised. First, I saw wooden walls built around the village. But what shocked me most was the strength of Hazan the farmer and Toryo the carpenter who helped build the wall.
We’ll need to ask for more payment and a bigger reward for the quest.
We already asked the village chief about Hazan and Toryo’s backgrounds when we picked up the prisoners, but their strength is still a mystery.
“All right, we’ve come far enough.”
I said that to my party members and removed the handcuffs and ropes tying the three adventurers.
I gave their weapons back—Raul the swordsman got his longsword, Rain the flashy archer got his bow, and Monty the big guy got his halberd.
Raul gripped his sword tightly and said,
“Tch! Those guys really got full of themselves!”
I tried to calm him down.
“You were too focused on David the Mighty. It couldn’t be helped.”
Honestly, we were the ones who wanted to complain. We had planned to provoke David and see how strong he really was. But thanks to these guys, we found unexpected strong people in the village. That’s why we decided not to stay in the village tonight and instead attack from outside.
We’ll coordinate with the other members of the Assassin Guild. They’ll attack from outside, and we’ll attack from inside. The plan was to kill David the Mighty first and complete the job step-by-step. But knowing someone that strong is inside, we now think it’s better to attack all at once from the outside together with other members and the Empire soldiers. That would increase the chance of success.
Just in case, we already had some of our people stay at the ‘Black Piglet Inn,’ even though they’re not as strong as me or Setsuna.
“We’re meeting the others in front of that big tree. Follow me there.”
When I told the three adventurers that, the magic-user Setsuna, wearing a pointy hat, was silently staring at her palm.
“What’s wrong? Did you start feeling sorry for the villagers?”
“No way. Of course not. It’s just…”
“Just?”
“Today, for some reason, my magic is raging inside me.”
“Hahahaha!! That’s great! Hey, all of you, we’re doing it tonight! We’ll kill every last villager!!”
