Is My Cat Secretly Crushing on Me?! - Chapter 2
It is an obligatory course for the Veterinary Medicine major this afternoon, and the teacher is the highly respected Professor Liu.
However, the old professor’s requirements were also exceptionally strict. Xie Xinlan rushed and managed to enter the classroom right on time, without being late.
She sat down and took a breath.
After enduring the class, during the break, Xie Xinlan couldn’t help but complain to her best friend beside her, “That was terrifying, I almost didn’t make it.”
“Why did you come so late? I even saved a seat for you.”
Xie Xinlan put her hands together in an apologetic gesture, “I saw a little orange cat at noon that was too cute. I just couldn’t walk away.”
Her best friend was speechless, “Here we go again.”
“Seriously, seriously, that cat was different. Its eyes were so beautiful.” Xie Xinlan couldn’t help but pull out her photo album to show off, “Look.”
Her best friend complained verbally, but her body honestly leaned in to look, “Wow, it’s so clean.”
“What are you two looking at?”
A questioning voice came from behind, with a lazy, yet smiling tone, but not in a frivolous way.
Xie Xinlan turned around and was suddenly faced with Lan Shen’s handsome face. The words in her mouth instantly choked.
Even her best friend gasped, almost inaudibly, “Holy cow, the campus heartthrob. Did we just run into a romantic chance today?”
Lan Shen raised an eyebrow, and the two girls instantly fell silent.
Lan Shen had vaguely heard something and felt strange, “What little orange cat from noon? I want to see too, can I?”
Xie Xinlan snapped back to reality, “Yes, of course, you can.”
She flipped her phone over and showed Lan Shen the photo of the orange cat, while rambling on with introductions, “I’m the president of the stray cat rescue department, and today I saw a new little orange cat appearing downstairs from the dorm…”
She was garrulous and quickly explained the whole story.
But after a long time, she received no response. Xie Xinlan looked up and found Lan Shen staring at the photo in a daze.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
Lan Shen closed his eyes and stabilized his voice, “I’m fine.”
He looked at the photo again and forced a smile, “It really is… very cute…”
Xie Xinlan felt Lan Shen’s tone was exceptionally stiff.
But before she could speak, the class bell rang, and she had to swallow her question.
Leaving Lan Shen alone in disarray.
Lan Shen supported his forehead with his hand, concealing his expression, and held back his urge to swear.
Words simply couldn’t describe his shock when he saw the photo.
The reflection Lan Shen saw of himself in the glass earlier was exactly the same as the one in the photo.
What little orange cat! What a dream!
It wasn’t a dream at all!
He really turned into a cat at noon!
He had lived for 22 years and still encountered such an otherworldly event. What on earth was going on?
And he did it in front of Lin Miao…
Even the usually shameless Lan Shen’s ear tips turned slightly red.
Fortunately, he was a cat, and could only meow.
Lan Shen silently chanted a hundred times, “I was just a cat, no one knows, it’s not embarrassing.”
No one knows, no one knows…
Lan Shen’s mind was a mess, and he couldn’t concentrate on the lecture at all.
His ears were buzzing, and since he hadn’t rested well at noon, he unknowingly dozed off on his desk.
When he opened his eyes again, he saw his short stature and furry paw pads once more.
Lan Shen held back, and held back, but still couldn’t resist. He slumped down weakly, “Meeow—”
“Damn, what the hell is going on!”
He looked up and found himself under the bushes next to the teaching building.
Jumping onto the window sill, he could even see ‘himself’ still sleeping soundly on the desk.
Lan Shen lowered his head again and stretched out a paw to scratch.
So, whose body was this now?
He couldn’t figure it out and started trying to change back.
After fussing for a long time with no effect, Lan Shen was tired and opened his mouth to pant.
Damn it, it’s too hot because of this long leg hair.
Since he was here, he might as well make the best of it. He jumped off the window sill and wandered aimlessly around.
After two steps, his ear tips twitched slightly.
After becoming a cat, his sense of smell and hearing had improved considerably.
Lan Shen smelled the tempting scent of cat food and involuntarily followed it.
Looking up, he saw Lin Miao’s face again.
Lin Miao was clearly surprised to see the little orange cat again, “Oh, little kitty, you’ve run so far. How did you end up here?”
He finished pouring the cat food, and seeing the orange cat still sitting properly in place, he waved, “Why are you hesitating? Come and eat quickly.”
“You were quite enthusiastic just now…”
If he hadn’t mentioned it, it would have been fine, but as soon as he did, Lan Shen’s gaze instantly drifted.
Lin Miao was a little puzzled, wondering if the cat was sick.
He slowly approached and reached out to stroke the cat’s head, “Don’t you like the cat food? How about I bring you some canned food tomorrow.”
Lin Miao’s technique was superb, and before Lan Shen could react, he had been petted into submission.
The orange cat purred, arching its chin, and squeezed out a word from its throat, “Good—”
The orange cat rubbed against Lin Miao a few times, covering up the scent of other stray cats on him.
Only then did it climb onto Lin Miao’s knee with satisfaction.
Lan Shen got over the initial awkwardness and accepted it.
What a cat does has nothing to do with me, Lan Shen.
As long as I don’t say anything, heaven knows, earth knows, and no one else will.
Lan Shen contentedly nuzzled Lin Miao with his nose and rested his head on Lin Miao’s arm.
At the same time, he kept his big cat eyes open: I’m just a poor innocent little kitty, why aren’t you comforting me?
Lin Miao’s heart was instantly captured.
Comfort him! Comfort him with everything he wants!
There were many friendly cats on campus, but this orange cat was the first one to actively climb onto his knee and snuggle.
Lin Miao suppressed an excited scream, afraid of scaring the cat away.
“Baby, you are too cute.” Lin Miao sat down on the steps by the roadside, grabbed the cat’s head, and started petting it, “Let Daddy kiss you.”
The orange cat protested with a dissatisfied rumble, “It’s Mommy/Wife/Hubby/Sweetheart!” (Note: the word 媳婦 can have multiple affectionate meanings depending on context, but here it suggests a close, possessive relationship.)
Lin Miao’s last bit of sanity kept him from kissing.
Although this little orange cat had excellent “cat virtues,” climbing onto his knee without extending its claws, and looked very clean.
But he decided to wait until after internal and external deworming, vaccinations, and a bath before kissing.
Lin Miao touched his chin with a loving expression, and gently squeezed the paw pads.
“I really want to adopt this little darling!”
The person and the cat were affectionate for a long time.
Lin Miao had no classes in the afternoon anyway, so he was naturally happy to pet the cat for a while longer.
He thought for a moment, “You don’t have a name yet, do you? How about I give you one?”
The orange cat perked up its ears.
Lin Miao didn’t expect the orange cat to answer and muttered to himself, “Little Orange? No, that’s too common… Hmm, since you’re so plump, how about ‘Bread’?”
The orange cat was displeased at the sound of that, pulled out its paws, and rolled over to express its dissatisfaction.
“Don’t be angry, baby. How can a little kitty be called fat? Your fur is just fluffy.”
“So what name do you like?” Lin Miao suggested a few names, but the orange cat seemed disinterested in all of them.
Lin Miao pretended to be angry, “You are too smart and too hard to please!”
He used his hand to gently tap the orange cat’s nose.
The orange cat took the opportunity to raise its head, and its mouth seemed to accidentally brush against Lin Miao’s finger.
He smelled Lin Miao’s unique, reassuring scent.
Lan Shen cursed himself for being shameless, then buried his nose in his arm to secretly savor the moment.
His body showed no sign of regret.
“What name do you want, little baby?”
“Meow meow!”
“So you just want ‘Baby’.”
The orange cat arched against him.
Lan Shen briefly picked up his shame, only to quickly step on it again.
It would be a missed opportunity not to take advantage of such a great situation.
Lin Miao smiled broadly, “Alright, alright, let’s call you ‘Baby’.”
Lan Shen listened with delight to the repeated calls of “Baby,” completely forgetting about his professional class this afternoon.
The sun gradually set in the west.
The class bell rang, and Lan Shen suddenly came to his senses.
He jumped off Lin Miao’s knee.
“Hey, Baby, where are you going!”
The orange cat ignored the calls from behind and hurriedly hid in the bushes, making sure no one could see him.
Lan Shen roughly figured out that he would inexplicably turn into a cat when ‘he’ fell asleep.
The change into a cat was more like a soul-crossing, and the orange cat would probably disappear when he woke up.
It would be too terrifying to disappear in public, so he had to avoid Lin Miao first.
Lan Shen concentrated, focusing on the thought of turning back into a person.
Perhaps the thought was too strong, as he faintly heard voices around him.
“Class dismissed! Lan-ge, are you coming?”
“Still sleeping?”
Lan Shen rubbed his eyes and looked up.
Sure enough, he had turned back into a person and was sitting in the classroom.
“That’s rare, our Lan-ge also learned to slack off and sleep in class,” Yue Zi’ang teased exaggeratedly.
Lan Shen was in a good mood and didn’t bother to argue with him, “No matter how much I sleep, my grades are still better than yours.”
Yue Zi’ang’s face fell.
Lan Shen looked completely satisfied, while Yue Zi’ang’s face was full of exhaustion from the class.
In contrast, Yue Zi’ang muttered irritably, “How can someone sleep so openly? It’s only because your grades are good. Did you sleep well?”
Lan Shen glanced at him and showed a cryptic smile, “I had a good dream.”
Before Yue Zi’ang could make more noise, Xie Xinlan, the class monitor, stood at the podium and clapped her hands, signaling for everyone to quiet down.
Everyone quickly quieted down and looked at her.
“We are all in our senior year, and we have arranged the required internship for the Veterinary Medicine major. For the next three months, we will be at the Mengchong Animal Hospital.”
“I will post the detailed follow-up information in the group. Students who do not plan to participate in the class’s unified internship, please contact me as soon as possible…”
Everyone responded in agreement.
Yue Zi’ang whispered, “Our class monitor is awesome. She even managed to find an internship for us. But since she is from the stray cat rescue department, they probably have a collaborating hospital…”
He nudged Lan Shen with his elbow, “Are you doing the internship too?”
Lan Shen was slightly spaced out, “Ah, what did you just say?”
“I asked if you were doing the internship with us.”
“The part before that.”
“I said, it’s probably the internship unit contacted by the stray cat rescue department. Why?”
Lan Shen’s heart stirred, “It’s nothing.”
Yue Zi’ang looked at his smiling face with suspicion, ‘It’s really nothing,’ he thought.
Why did he even look a bit, uh, like he was overflowing with spring-time happiness?
Yue Zi’ang was confused and looked up.
It was clearly autumn…
Lan Shen ignored him and went to confirm with Xie Xinlan with the question in his mind.
Xie Xinlan: “Yes, it is indeed a unit that our department collaborates with.”
“Then I must thank the class monitor and others in the department.”
Lan Shen changed the subject, “But the class monitor has to intern and also lead the cooperation between the two sides. Won’t that be a little too busy?”
He looked sincere, as if he was genuinely concerned about a classmate, with absolutely no selfish motives.
“Actually, our great department president should also learn to delegate power and let others in the department get some experience.”
Xie Xinlan looked thoughtful.
