Is My Cat Secretly Crushing on Me?! - Chapter 5
Lin Miao felt his heart was about to leap out of his throat.
The two people were too close!
Social interaction was too terrifying!
Lin Miao thought hazily.
Lan Shen saw him stunned and said helplessly, “Why are you so easy to bully? No wonder Xie Xinlan is worried about you.”
“No, no,” Lin Miao lowered his head sharply, but the tips of his ears were red. He changed the subject, “Go back to work quickly!”
Lan Shen knew when to stop.
Only his eyes and brows held a smile, concealing none of his good mood.
Lin Miao quickly finished his volunteer shift, almost fleeing in panic.
Lan Shen watched his reaction, afraid he had bullied him too hard. After getting off work in the evening and returning to his dorm, he quickly transformed into a cat to probe.
He had long figured out Lin Miao’s cat-feeding time clearly and staked out the spot in advance.
“Meow-meow! Long time no see, baby.”
Lin Miao saw the orange cat sitting properly and happily fed him a can of food.
“I love my baby the most, come and eat more.”
“Meow meow meow!” “I also love my wife the most!”
He seemed to be in a good mood.
Lan Shen secretly breathed a sigh of relief in his heart.
He first affectionately rubbed against Lin Miao’s leg for a while before unhurriedly eating his meal.
Lin Miao had no classes, and sat beside him keeping company, with no concern for his appearance.
After the orange cat finished eating, Lin Miao picked him up onto his lap and carefully gave him internal and external deworming medicine.
The orange cat was very obedient; he didn’t even need to be forced to take the medicine.
He opened his mouth and swallowed it with a munching sound.
While petting the cat, Lin Miao habitually talked to the cat.
“Did you miss me? Now I always have to go to the hospital during the day, so I don’t have time to feed the cat anymore…”
Speaking of this, Lin Miao was silent for a while.
When he spoke again, his voice was two shades lower: “Work is so hard… no, getting along with people is so hard.”
“Baby, do you know? Today, I almost held someone up because of my work mistake, but luckily it was resolved.”
“I don’t know what that classmate will think of me, sigh…”
The orange cat’s ears twitched.
How was that your work mistake?
It was clearly the classmate who entered the wrong ID number.
“Sure enough, I still can’t do this kind of work.”
Lin Miao pursed his lips and picked at his fingers.
Suddenly he felt a tickle in his palm.
He looked down and saw the orange cat had tucked its tail into his hand.
The orange cat tilted its head: “Meow.” “It’s not your fault, you did very well.”
Lin Miao smiled faintly: “What do you understand, little kitty.”
Lan Shen pouted, mumbled a little, and hooked Lin Miao’s hand with his tail.
He’s clearly a very good person, why is he so lacking in confidence?
“But luckily there was a senior who helped me…”
The orange cat’s body froze for a moment, then he yawned in a concealing manner.
Lin Miao muttered distractedly, “Senior Lan Shen is so strange, he’s just… hard to describe…”
The orange cat, being petty, retracted his tail.
“But, he should be a good person… right? Very enthusiastic, and relatively easy to get along with.”
Hearing this, the orange cat smacked his lips in satisfaction: “Meow-aow.”
“My wife has good taste.”
Lin Miao was already used to the orange cat’s cheesy talk, and without any disgust, he grabbed the cat for a vigorous petting session to vent his work stress.
Not only did Lan Shen not resist, but he shamelessly leaned into Lin Miao.
If Lin Miao’s T-shirt neckline hadn’t been small, he definitely could have wriggled inside the shirt.
“Alright, alright, stop messing around.”
Lin Miao pulled him out.
The orange cat innocently flicked his tail.
Since his goal for the day had been achieved, Lan Shen scurried back to the dormitory building.
The work within the rescue department was day after day.
But occasionally, urgent things would happen.
One autumn rain brings one chill; today’s rain was especially heavy.
Lin Miao was just feeling lucky that he had no classes today and could comfortably cozy up in his dorm tonight.
Suddenly, his phone’s group chat started vibrating frantically.
Nannan: [A junior student found a kitten on campus (Image) (Image)]
Ye Zi: [Oh my god, it looks like it was just born a few weeks ago, it’s all wet, it will definitely catch a cold]
Bikini Bottom Cat: “How about taking it back to the dorm for one night first?”
Nannan: [Dorms don’t allow keeping cats! The auntie (dorm manager) definitely won’t allow it inside]
Nannan: “Where’s the Minister (Department Head)? Urgently need someone to take it to the hospital!!”
Nannan: “@Everyone Emergency! Who’s free!!”
Lin Miao’s eyes narrowed: [Minister Xie is interning at the hospital today, she can’t rush back]
He quickly got up, grabbed his phone and umbrella, and typed while rushing out: “I’m coming right away!”
His roommate Ding Yizhou saw this: “Where are you going in this heavy rain?”
“There’s a little kitten; I’m going to take it to the hospital.”
Ding Yizhou frowned tightly: “Are you going by yourself in this weather?”
Lin Miao was the youngest in their dorm, and his personality was gentle, so they all took care of him like a younger brother.
“Wait for me, I’ll go with you.”
The rain outside looked even heavier than it did from inside the room.
Mixed with bursts of autumn wind, Lin Miao’s clothes were almost completely soaked halfway there.
He finally managed to meet the junior student who found the cat.
The junior student was so anxious she was almost crying, hiding under the eaves: “Hurry, hurry, I just wiped it dry. It feels so cold to the touch, will it be okay?”
She cupped the tiny kitten in her hands, and through the gaps between her fingers, it could be seen that the kitten was barely alive.
Lin Miao frowned deeply: “It might be suffering from hypothermia.”
He took out a dry blanket from his bag, carefully wrapped the kitten, and put it into the pet carrier.
Ding Yizhou asked, “We have to walk to the school gate to get a taxi, right?”
Lin Miao nodded, looking up at the heavy rain with a wry smile: “We have to go anyway.”
Ding Yizhou helped him carry the other things.
Lin Miao held the umbrella with one hand and clutched the cat carrier to his chest with the other.
Just as the few of them were preparing to dash out into the rain, a car suddenly drove up the campus road.
It lightly honked the horn twice and stopped in front of them.
Lin Miao squinted his eyes, looked at the person who got out against the headlights, and widened his eyes.
Lan Shen was holding a huge umbrella and easily pulled Lin Miao over to shield him.
“Why are you here?”
Lan Shen took the cat carrier: “To take you to the hospital. I’m driving.”
Ding Yizhou saw the two people’s familiar attitude, as if he had seen his own treasured cabbage being taken away.
He pulled Lin Miao back, alertly asking: “Who is this?”
Lin Miao quickly explained in a low voice: “He’s our Minister’s classmate, also interning at the hospital. Don’t worry.”
Lan Shen’s eyes narrowed, and he pulled Lin Miao to his side, subtly separating the two.
“Let’s go quickly, don’t delay the rescue time.”
Lin Miao was led by the nose and quickly nodded, preparing to follow.
“Then I’ll go too,” Ding Yizhou said.
Lan Shen said sternly: “We’ll take care of it; it might take a long time, so we won’t take up the junior’s time.”
He also said to the junior student: “It’s a heavy rain, you should quickly return to your dorm. Be safe.”
Lin Miao also felt uncomfortable asking his roommate to go so far with him: “I have class tomorrow, Ding Ge (Brother Ding), I can go by myself.”
Ding Yizhou could not insist: “Alright then, call me if anything happens.”
In the end, as Lan Shen wished, only the two of them got into the car.
“This is really too much trouble for you.” Lin Miao sat in the passenger seat, gently holding the kitten while quietly thanking Lan Shen.
“It’s just a matter of stepping on the gas pedal.”
“How did you know we were here?” Lin Miao asked casually.
Lan Shen paused for a moment, then said as naturally as possible: “I’m in your group chat too; I wanted to come and help.”
Afraid Lin Miao would probe further, he changed the subject and feigned displeasure: “But in this kind of situation, why didn’t you ask for help?”
Lin Miao blinked blankly, looking at him.
Lan Shen frowned deeply: “If I hadn’t come, were you really planning to go hail a taxi?”
“Not to mention how long you’d have to wait for a taxi in this heavy rain, even if there was a car, you would be soaked by the time you walked to the school gate.”
Lan Shen lectured him while turning the air conditioning up by two degrees.
“When you encounter something like this, why don’t you send me a WeChat message? You have a car to ride in, but you insist on getting soaked in the rain.”
Lin Miao was confused, he opened his mouth, originally wanting to say that he didn’t even know Lan Shen had a car.
But meeting Lan Shen’s gaze, he instantly felt deflated.
He pursed his lips and apologized: “S-sorry, I know I was wrong.”
“What do you know you did wrong?”
“I didn’t contact you in time.”
A sly smile appeared on Lan Shen’s lips: “Mhm, it’s a good child who corrects their mistakes. Next time you encounter trouble, you must look for me first.”
“…”
“Did you hear me?”
“Huh?”
“Aren’t we friends?”
“Oh, okay…” Lin Miao was confused, and vaguely agreed to what he said.
Is the senior student this enthusiastic?
Having a car was fast; they reached the pet hospital shortly.
Lan Shen led him to the rescue department and opened the incubator.
Having just been drenched by the heavy rain, the cat’s fur had clumped into strands.
Now that it was slowly drying, Lin Miao realized it was a very good-looking long-haired calico cat.
Looking at the kitten that was not even the size of his palm, Lin Miao was uneasy: “Can it be saved?”
Getting no response, he turned his head to look for Lan Shen, but as soon as he looked up, he was covered from the head down by a blanket.
Lin Miao struggled to poke his head out from the blanket, only to have Lan Shen press on him and rub his hair dry.
“I only know that if you don’t wipe yourself dry, you’ll definitely catch a cold.”
Lan Shen gently rubbed his head a little, then let go of his hand with restraint.
Lin Miao lowered his head in embarrassment: “I’m healthy.”
Seeing Lan Shen’s disapproving expression, Lin Miao obediently corrected himself: “Thank you, Senior.”
The clothes on his body were all wet, so he could only wrap himself in the blanket for now.
His delicate little face nestled in the fluffy blanket, looking especially similar to the kitten in the incubator—soft and childlike.
Lan Shen’s fingers slightly curled.
“Senior, is there something on my face?”
Lan Shen tore his gaze away from his face: “Oh, nothing.”
“I’ll take you back to your dorm in a little while.”
Lin Miao widened his eyes: “I don’t need to stay tonight to take care of it?”
“You still have an 8 AM class tomorrow, right? You should go back and rest early. I’ll stay and take care of it.”
Lin Miao twisted his fingers, anxious: “How can that be? It’s too much trouble for you, Senior.”
“I’ll have to wake up frequently in the middle of the night to feed it milk. Do you want to doze off in class tomorrow? I don’t have many classes as a senior, so just consider this as an internship overtime.”
“Be obedient; leave this kind of thing to the professionals.”
Lin Miao still felt bad inside: “Then I’ll stay with you at the hospital.”
Lan Shen stared at him steadily for a moment, then a trace of a smile appeared on the side of his lips: “Are you sure?”
Lin Miao became wary.
Lan Shen chuckled: “There’s only one bed left in the hospital lounge. Are you planning to sleep on the long chair…”
“…or squeeze in with me?”
Lan Shen’s smile was full of meaning: “I certainly don’t mind.”
Lin Miao’s animal-like instinct sensed danger, and he was speechless.
He opened his mouth: “Then, then I’ll trouble the Senior to take me back to school.”
