- Chapter 30 - As The Zombie King, It Makes Sense For Me To Become the Savior, Right?
The three of them were unsure why, but after some thought, the other two agreed, saying, “Let’s go together.”
Zhao Chuan simply wanted to shake his head.
The two younger men added, “We’ve grown up together, so if there’s something to face, we face it together.”
After Bai Yuan confirmed the hotel was secure, he withdrew all his mental energy, though his body continued to absorb both the virus and emotional energy.
Suddenly, a wave of guilt and self-blame mixed with anxiety and confusion washed over him.
Not understanding why, Bai Yuan briefly released his energy and noticed four people emerging from a room, seemingly searching for him.
He was downstairs with the Lu family.
Bai Yuan stood up: “Me, second floor.”
The Lu family didn’t need to discuss it; they simply nodded: “Going to find those four boys? Go ahead.”
The four appeared unharmed and didn’t react negatively to Obuchi’s identity.
After all, they were just Obuchi’s family. For their children to grow strong mentally and physically, they had to maintain contact with humans. They couldn’t wait until the future when only their kids were left alone.
Furthermore, the Lu family had another consideration.
If Obuchi gradually built a circle of trusted allies or friends, it would make any future attempts to frame or attack him less likely because he’d have loyal supporters.
Parents couldn’t fight their children’s battles.
Their only role was to avoid causing trouble or obstructing their decisions.
They just needed to stand behind, offering support and warmth in times of danger, assuring their child: “Don’t be afraid, we love you.”
…
Bai Yuan went up to the second floor and saw four people emerging from a door at a distance.
“Boss, you’re back,” they said, startled but unsurprised, as it was natural for them to hear movements from a powerful second-level zombie.
Bai Yuan nodded.
Zhao Chuan took a deep breath: “Sorry, I haven’t told you everything, but it’s about our families…”
He and the three others planned to bring their families from the gathering place, explaining: “Wu Yang’s parents are from a martial arts background. Though older, they’re stronger than Wu Yang.”
That’s why all three sets of parents had come out looking for them.
They felt confident because these parents could deter bullies around them.
“Yes, my dad’s very agile, especially since he used to run a barbecue stall and cooked all kinds of things.”
“My mom’s hardworking too.”
Bai Yuan sighed, “Quiet.”
The four fell silent, uneasy, awaiting Bai Yuan’s decision.
Expressionless, Bai Yuan asked, “Xiaoju, base, how many people?”
The four listened carefully as Zhao Chuan gave a concise, clear rundown of the situation at the gathering place, avoiding too many details but making sure Bai Yuan understood.
Bai Yuan locked eyes coldly on Zhao Chuan. “Good.”
Zhao Chuan’s heart lightened, and he smiled, “Boss Xie.”
Bai Yuan calculated the time in his mind. Two days remained before the original plot’s superpower team arrived. He planned to check out the gathering place but not bring his family along.
He would leave behind plenty of energy and enough zombie boys to protect the family left behind—but before leaving, he had to gather food.
Looking at Rukawa, Bai Yuan asked, “Location, distance.”
Lu Chuan understood perfectly and answered, “About… a four-hour drive, or three to four days on foot.”
But the road was full of obstacles and abandoned cars. Only high-quality or modified vehicles could make the trip without damage; otherwise, cars would be deformed after hitting obstacles.
And making too much noise could attract hordes of zombies. If the convoy couldn’t fight them off or pass smoothly, they’d be overwhelmed.
So, the three mostly chose to ride, occasionally walking their vehicles over rough terrain, losing several days.
Bai Yuan had to make a new plan.
He planned to use a buggy with a wide search range and a key.
Zhao Chuan was an invaluable talent, too good to waste stuck in a hotel recovering. Bai Yuan absorbed the energy mass and split off a portion, turning it into healing power.
From past memories, the most useful powers were thunder, space, and healing.
Among these, healing was the rarest and most valuable.
Most superpowers were water or plant-based and only became deadly at level one.
But healing powers were already deadly even at level zero.
Space powers were also rare, but initially limited to a box-sized dimension, requiring killing zombies of the same type or risking life-and-death moments to expand.
Healing powers were especially crucial in the apocalyptic world where medical care was nearly non-existent.
Minor wounds or bleeding attracted zombies, so wounds needed rapid treatment and protection.
But in dangerous situations, injuries often meant survival was uncertain, creating a vicious cycle where wounds attracted zombies, and the injured were eventually caught and killed.
Bai Yuan looked at his palm.
A zombie king should know all powers, right? That made sense.
Then an idea struck.
His palm suddenly held a black sphere of light, dark and ominous, reminding him of many dangerous things.
“Don’t move,” Bai Yuan said coldly.
The sphere floated toward Zhao Chuan, who cautiously stayed still.
Almost instantly, Zhao Chuan felt his weakness fade, wounds disappearing without a trace—except for the hunger caused by losing fifteen kilograms in days without food or drink.
But Zhao Chuan didn’t care.
He was stunned and asked trembling, “You actually have healing powers?”
None of the four had seen healing powers firsthand, only heard about them on the radio. Bases protected such powers closely.
They once dreamed of joining a big base for that reason.
But the base was far away, a dangerous trip for a healing power that wouldn’t treat ordinary people.
So they gave up the idea.
Now, with healing powers in front of them, excitement and shock filled their hearts.
Excited because as long as they lived, they could ask the boss to save someone.
Shocked because healing powers for zombies could also work on humans.
Bai Yuan pointed to some people: “Find a car.”
He didn’t know much about vehicles, so he gave that task to the four and sent fifty zombie boys from the parking lot to protect them.
He and his family headed to the mall to purchase supplies for free.
When the Lu family was called downstairs, they looked at Zhao Chuan with surprise. Though thin, he was much stronger than before, no longer collapsing at any moment.
“How did this happen so fast?”
The four were momentarily stunned but looked at Bai Yuan.
Bai Yuan was quiet for a moment, then simply said, “Mine. Healing.”
The Lu family’s eyes widened.
It had been unscientific to create more water-based powers recently. How had a healing power appeared so quickly?
They understood how precious healing powers were and how bases guarded them carefully.
Their hearts tightened.
If Obuchi’s healing powers spread, many might spy on him and want to lock him in a lab.
Bai Yuan calmly absorbed the fear and unease the family showed.
Current reassurances wouldn’t work.
He had to show the Lu family his strength firsthand.
Zhao Chuan sensed this and quickly pledged loyalty: “Don’t worry, we won’t mention the boss’s healing power. In the afternoon, the boss will come with us to bring our families over. I’ll work with the boss from now on.”
The others nodded quickly.
The Lu family, now more attracted by Zhao Chuan’s words, ignored their worry about healing powers and anxiously asked Bai Yuan, “Xiaoyuan, we’re coming with you too, right?”
Bai Yuan shook his head, “The trip’s long. You should rest here and later take a car.”
He wished he could speak more clearly, even just four words, but his speech was still limited.
Zhao Chuan quickly interpreted, “The boss means you should rest in the hotel and recover after we bring your family here.”
He glanced at Bai Yuan’s expression and continued, “We might have to leave for another place after that. It’ll be a long journey, and you need to prepare yourself.”
He added, “My power lets me send messages over a distance, so you can always stay updated.”
The Lu family was moved and looked to Bai Yuan.
He nodded.
With no other choice, the Lu family agreed.
Bai Yuan gave Zhao Chuan ten more zombie boys as escorts, then said, “Go.”
Zhao Chuan was grateful and thanked him repeatedly, expecting to go out alone, but surprised that Bai Yuan could control zombies remotely to protect them.
Security was thorough.
