It Seems that My Fiancé Has Fallen in Love at First Sight - Chapter 1
“I’d like to introduce someone. This is Lady Caroline. Her carriage broke down, and she’s unable to move. Would it be alright if she rode with us?”
Louis, Alice’s fiancĂ©, introduced the young lady with a smile. Alice couldn’t find it in herself to refuse.
“Ah… um, sure…”
“Thank you very much. You’ve saved me.”
Lady Caroline smiled warmly as she expressed her gratitude. Louis extended his hand to her.
“Please, come in.”
“Thank you, Lord Louis.”
Alice silently watched the two as they exchanged smiles.
“Alice?”
“Ah… right, thank you…”
With the three of them now inside, the carriage began to move, and Louis and Caroline started chatting.
“Um… Lord Louis, have you and Lady Alice known each other for a long time?”
“Huh?”
“You two seem very comfortable talking to each other.”
“We’re childhood friends.”
“Oh my! I see. Being childhood friends and also engaged—how wonderful.”
“Our parents were close friends, so we were engaged because of that connection.”
“But still, Lady Alice must be so lucky… to have such a kind fiancĂ©.”
“K-kind? I think anyone would have done the same in that situation.”
Louis blushed slightly, looking flustered, while Caroline chuckled softly.
As Alice watched the two converse so cheerfully, she couldn’t help but feel uneasy. Letting out a sigh, she turned her gaze to the dark scenery outside the carriage window.
(This is the first time we’re attending a banquet together as an engaged couple… and yet…)
Alice stole a glance at Louis, who seemed completely engrossed in his conversation with Caroline. Unable to hold back, she finally spoke.
“…Do you two know each other?”
“Huh!?”
Both Louis and Caroline responded at the same time, then glanced at each other and chuckled.
“I only met her on the way to pick you up. Her carriage wheel had broken, and she was in trouble when I happened to pass by. Why would you think that?”
Louis smiled at Alice as he asked.
“…Because the two of you seem to be having such a great time talking…”
“Oh… I’m sorry.”
“Was I really talking that much? Alice, why don’t you join in?”
“…Sorry for interrupting your conversation. I think I’ll rest for a bit. Wake me when we arrive.”
“Haha, you haven’t changed at all. Alright, I will.”
“Um… Lady Alice…”
“Oh, don’t worry about her. Anyway, about what we were discussing earlier…”
“Hehe, yes…”
“……”
Alice didn’t sleep. Instead, she sat in silence, staring at their reflections in the carriage window as their laughter and conversation continued. The carriage carried them toward the banquet hall at the castle.
