It’s About You (GL High H) - Chapter 28
Meals three times a day became the top priority. Wanqi Lang always found the hospital’s nutritional meals insufficiently thoughtful, so she varied her orders from renowned wellness spots outside. Glutinous bone broth, light medicinal stewed chicken, vegetable congee—she always tested the temperature carefully and fed it to Xing Enxi spoonful by spoonful.
“Too much…” Xing Enxi looked at yet another full bowl of soup and felt helpless.
“Don’t give me that. The doctor said you need to replenish your nutrition to recover faster.”
During mealtimes, both of them tacitly fell silent.
Wanqi Lang focused on blowing the food cool, while Xing Enxi chewed obediently. Her gaze sometimes drifted to Wanqi Lang’s lowered eyelashes, noting the faint dark circles beneath her eyes.
The concussion symptoms made Xing Enxi occasionally dizzy and nauseous, and her energy easily fatigued. Wanqi Lang stayed by her bedside and, when she felt unwell, rubbed her palms warm to massage her temples.
The trickier part was handling personal hygiene.
At first, Xing Enxi could not get out of bed at all, so Wanqi Lang called in a nurse to help. But as her condition improved, for things like wiping down or using the bathroom, Xing Enxi insisted she could manage on her own.
One time, Xing Enxi wanted to get up to use the bathroom. She hopped on one foot, one hand steadying herself against the wall, her movements clumsy.
Wanqi Lang watched from the doorway, her heart twisting in worry.
She hurried forward and simply extended her arm to encircle Xing Enxi’s waist, using her own body as support.
“I’ll hold the door. You take it slow yourself—be careful.” She helped Xing Enxi to the bathroom door and spoke softly, then turned her back and stood guard outside. Faint sounds of water and suppressed breaths came from within. Wanqi Lang’s hand at her side clenched quietly until Xing Enxi called her weakly. Only then did she turn around and help her back to bed.
“Thank you…” Xing Enxi lay down, her mood low.
“Why thank me?” Wanqi Lang tucked in the corners of the blanket for her, though her eyes held an intense, unspoken ache.
Afternoon sunlight filtered through the gauze curtains, soft and warm. Xing Enxi leaned against the raised back of the bed, her spirits somewhat improved. Wanqi Lang sat in the chair by the bed, holding a tablet.
“Bored? Want to watch a movie or listen to some music?”
Wanqi Lang handed over the tablet.
Xing Enxi shook her head: “It’s a bit noisy. Let’s just sit quietly for a while.”
She gazed at the drifting clouds outside the window, her expression somewhat vacant.
“Okay.” Wanqi Lang set the tablet aside and said nothing more, just sitting with her. Sunlight danced on her lowered eyelashes, and in that moment, time grew exceptionally serene. The arguments and parting seemed temporarily sealed away by the sunlight in the room. Only the person before her, who needed such careful tending, mattered as the sole important thing.
A few days later, Xing Enxi’s mental state and physical strength had recovered considerably. She could already sit up on her own and, with support, take a few slow steps.
That afternoon, a knock sounded at the ward door.
“Sis Enxi, Sis Lang!” Shen Zhiwei and Jiang Nian entered one after the other. Shen Zhiwei still had her ice-queen CEO demeanor, while Jiang Nian carried a large fruit basket and flowers.
“Zhiwei, Little Nian!” Wanqi Lang stood to greet them, her face full of delight.
Xing Enxi leaned against the headboard, a smile appearing on her pale face: “You’ve come.”
Jiang Nian hurried to the bedside and looked at Xing Enxi with concern: “How are you? Feeling better?”
“Much better. It’s nothing, just needs some more time to recuperate.”
“Good as long as you’re okay. That day scared me half to death.”
Jiang Nian arranged the flowers, set the fruits on the table, and held Xing Enxi’s uninjured hand as they chatted: “Sis Lang’s taken such good care of you—your complexion’s improved a lot. With this round-the-clock personal service, I bet she’s about to fatten you up.”
At that, Xing Enxi looked toward Wanqi Lang. She was pouring water for Shen Zhiwei and Jiang Nian, and her movements paused briefly, her earlobes seeming to flush slightly.
Shen Zhiwei followed her gaze to Wanqi Lang, her lips curving faintly: “Mm, it’s clear. Boss Lang’s really putting her heart into it this time.”
Wanqi Lang shifted uncomfortably under their stares, shoved the water glasses into their hands, and muttered: “You two are just here to tease me, aren’t you? Drink water—all of you, drink.”
Xing Enxi watched as she deftly peeled fruits, cut them into small pieces, and placed them on a plate to share with everyone.
Shen Zhiwei speared a strawberry with a small fork and suddenly spoke.
“Once you’re a bit better, how about considering a trip to unwind? Find a warm place for a vacation.”
Jiang Nian nodded too: “Actually, I want us all to go relax together. The topic selection pressure’s been huge lately. Sis Enxi, Sis Lang, come with us. It’ll be fun with more people.”
She looked at Xing Enxi and Wanqi Lang eagerly.
Xing Enxi poked at the apple in her plate and smiled somewhat helplessly: “I’ll pass. I’ve been on leave from this injury, and the piled-up work is already a mountain.”
“Oh, come on,” Wanqi Lang had just finished tidying when she overheard and immediately scooted over, plopping down on the edge of Xing Enxi’s bed. “Even workaholics need a breather. Besides, isn’t your boss right here?”
Her eyes flicked to Shen Zhiwei, who was eating strawberries unhurriedly. She pointed a finger at Shen Zhiwei, then slid it toward Jiang Nian beside her:
“This is our boss lady wanting to go play. How could she not approve your leave?”
With that, she deliberately raised her brows at Jiang Nian.
Jiang Nian’s face flushed bright red in an instant, and she nearly dropped her water glass: “Sis Lang, what are you talking about! What boss lady—you’re talking nonsense!”
Shen Zhiwei’s face showed no expression, but the corners of her mouth twitched upward stealthily.
She neither refuted Wanqi Lang nor explained. She simply took a napkin to dab at nonexistent juice on her lips and said: “Don’t worry about the leave approval. Just focus on recovering.”
She glanced at Jiang Nian, who was still blushing: “Once the injury heals, wherever you want to vacation, the company can reimburse part of the itinerary expenses as employee care.”
With those words, she had effectively given the green light.
Wanqi Lang beamed like she’d received an imperial decree and lifted her chin smugly at Xing Enxi: “Hear that? The boss… er, President Shen has spoken. Paid vacation—opportunity like this doesn’t come twice, Comrade Xing.”
With Wanqi Lang relentlessly stirring the pot beside her, Xing Enxi could only shake her head with a helpless laugh.
“Fine then. Since the boss lady and the leader have both spoken, we’ll all go together.”
She deliberately mimicked Wanqi Lang’s tone, and sure enough, she saw Jiang Nian’s recently cooled face heat up again. It was truly amusing.
