It’s About You (GL High H) - Chapter 29
The group chatted and laughed for a while before Shen Zhiwei stood up and straightened her clothes.
“We’ll head out first. There’s a meeting at the company this afternoon. You rest well.” She looked at the two of them. “Let me know once the vacation plans are set.”
“Mm, thank you, President Shen.” Xing Enxi nodded.
Jiang Nian stood up too and shot Wanqi Lang a reproachful glare: “Sis Enxi, take good care of yourself. We’ll go play together once you’re better.”
Wanqi Lang saw the two to the door, and the ward returned to quiet.
Wanqi Lang walked back to the bedside and picked up the fruit basket to tidy it, her movements very practiced.
Xing Enxi leaned against the headboard and watched her bustle about.
The meticulous care over the past few days, bit by bit, washed over her like a silent tide, eroding the icy dam in her heart. She looked at the faint shadows under Wanqi Lang’s eyes, at the somewhat wrinkled loungewear on her body, so different from the flamboyant and unrestrained bar boss she knew.
“Actually… you don’t have to do all this for me.”
Wanqi Lang looked up at Xing Enxi. Sunlight danced on her face, making those eyes exceptionally bright and earnest.
Wanqi Lang pulled out a tissue to wipe her hands: “What do you mean, no need?”
“VIP ward, staying up all night, wiping me down, feeding me…” Xing Enxi listed them one by one. “These things go beyond even ordinary friends. You don’t owe me anything.”
Wanqi Lang’s heart pounded wildly. She knew the moment for evasion had ended.
“You’re right, I don’t owe you. What happened on the mountain was my big mouth making you angry. The breakup later was my own doing.” She took a deep breath, more serious than ever. “But seeing you lying here, covered in injuries, your face pale and frightening… Xing Enxi, that moment, I realized how ridiculous I’d been.”
She looked into Xing Enxi’s eyes and spoke word by word.
“I’m staying here not out of guilt, not because I feel I owe you. It’s because I’m afraid—afraid you might not wake up, afraid I’ll never again see you glaring at me, arguing with me.” Her hands on her knees clenched tight, her fingertips turning white. “It’s because I can’t bear it.”
“Can’t bear it?” Xing Enxi raised an eyebrow.
“Mm.” Wanqi Lang nodded vigorously. “I can’t bear to see you lying here alone, and even less to have you disappear from my world.”
She licked her somewhat dry lips, her gaze burning like fire: “I’m such a fucking idiot! Before, I thought as long as it was fun, that was enough—no need to think ahead. But that day on the mountaintop, seeing you really leave, and now in the hospital, seeing you like this… I finally get it. I don’t want to end at all. I don’t want to lose you one bit.”
She finished in one breath, her cheeks flushing with excitement. Those eyes, usually full of teasing smiles, now brimmed with sincerity.
Xing Enxi watched her quietly, listening to her trembling confession.
Wanqi Lang saw no response and grew even more uncertain. She scooted over and draped herself on the bed’s edge, nudging Xing Enxi with her head.
“So, Xing Enxi, if I say I want to seriously pursue you now, is it too late?” With still no reaction, Wanqi Lang hurried to add, “I know I was a jerk before, immature, said a lot of hurtful things. But this time, I’m serious! I promise!”
Wanqi Lang was practically wearing “I was wrong” and “I like you” on her face, yet Xing Enxi stayed silent for a full half minute.
Wanqi Lang tensed like a prisoner awaiting judgment. Finally, Xing Enxi spoke.
“Wanqi Lang, why should I wait behind you just because you’ve turned around?”
Wanqi Lang’s face paled at those words. Yeah, why? Why did she think her sudden awakening meant the other had to accept her?
She grabbed Xing Enxi’s uninjured hand in a rush but gently, afraid of hurting her: “No! That’s not what I mean! I… I can change! Tell me what’s wrong with me, and I’ll fix it all!”
She stumbled over her words, her usual silver tongue and suave charm gone, leaving only clumsy panic.
Xing Enxi let her hold her hand. Wanqi Lang choked on her anxiety and, after stewing for a long while, finally squeezed out a choked sentence.
“I really like you, Little Xi. Won’t you believe me just once?”
Xing Enxi could no longer ignore Wanqi Lang’s such earnest look. The ice deep in her eyes slowly melted, and she let out a long sigh full of indulgence.
Under Wanqi Lang’s gaze, a helpless smile curved her lips. She turned her hand and gripped Wanqi Lang’s cool fingertips in return, teasing gently:
“Fine then… let’s see how you perform.”
The pardon came down, and Wanqi Lang’s eyes widened, her heart nearly leaping from her chest. She wanted desperately to pounce and hug Xing Enxi but held back at the sight of her condition.
She gripped Xing Enxi’s hand tightly and nodded vigorously, her voice brimming with determination:
“Mm! I’ll perform well for sure! Xing Enxi, you watch!”
…
Xing Enxi’s recovery was astonishing. Under Wanqi Lang’s five-star caregiving, her condition improved day by day. The wound at her temple healed well; after the stitches came out, only a faint pink scar remained. Though her left arm was still in plaster, it no longer hindered basic movement—just needed time for the bone to knit solidly.
Finally, the day of discharge arrived.
Wanqi Lang had packed everything early. There wasn’t much, mostly comfortable loungewear and sundries she’d bought in recent days. She buzzed around the ward like a diligent little bee, humming a tune as she went.
Xing Enxi changed out of the hospital gown into the cashmere cardigan and comfy leisure pants Wanqi Lang had bought her. Though her left arm was still slung, her complexion had improved greatly, her eyes holding a newfound softness after her illness.
She watched Wanqi Lang hustle about, and her lips curved upward unconsciously. The month’s pain had become far less unbearable because of this person’s presence.
“All set!” Wanqi Lang zipped up the suitcase, clapped her hands, and looked around smugly. “Finally leaving this place.”
She bounced over to Xing Enxi and studied her closely: “Tsk tsk, our legal eagle Xing looks stunning even with a cast.”
She slyly touched the plaster on Xing Enxi’s left hand.
“Good thing it’s the left hand injured—doesn’t affect using your right to fvck me.” She drew out the words deliberately and shot her a flirtatious wink.
“Pfft—!”
Xing Enxi was mid-sip of water and nearly choked. This jerk—back to his true colors after just a few days of propriety.
“Wanqi Lang,” Xing Enxi snatched up a pillow and hurled it at Wanqi Lang’s punchable face, “your mouth should get a lip piercing to nail the upper and lower together.”
The pillow was light and landed softly on Wanqi Lang.
Wanqi Lang caught it with a grin and hugged it to her chest, sniffing it on purpose: “Fragrant! Anything our Little Xi has used smells good!”
Xing Enxi rolled her eyes deliberately and fired back without mercy:
“So what if it were the right hand? Wouldn’t your wall of toys be enough?”
Wanqi Lang hugged the pillow and chuckled: “I only want your fingers—raw, handmade, that’s what gives it soul!”
She batted her eyes and professed her sincerity to Xing Enxi’s right hand.
“Are you turning perverted or what?” Xing Enxi laughed despite herself at the twisted logic and grabbed another pillow to throw.
The two tossed pillows back and forth, goofing around.
They completely failed to notice that, at some point, the ward door had cracked open.
At the doorway stood Jiang Nian, come to pick her up, along with the little nurse there to handle the discharge papers.
The bag in Jiang Nian’s hand nearly hit the floor.
My God, you two… this is a hospital ward—mind the influence.
She stood beside the nurse, embarrassed to her toes and truly wanting to say she didn’t know these two.
The little nurse was even more at a loss, clutching the forms and pen. She couldn’t advance or retreat and could only cough dryly to alert the oblivious pair inside: “Ahem… ahem, Miss Xing? Miss Wanqi?”
