It’s About You (GL High H) - Chapter 5
Silence spread.
Xing Enxi let go of her hand and looked at the woman in front of her with a complicated gaze. She opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, she just irritably pushed up the glasses on her nose bridge.
Wanqi Lang also supported her waist and slowly straightened up, straightening her wrinkled collar. She looked at Xing Enxi’s furrowed brows and aggrieved expression, then at the twisted wheel beside her, and surprisingly, the anger in her heart subsided a bit.
Another evening breeze blew through, carrying the chill of late autumn.
Xing Enxi herself could not figure out why, but her body reacted a step faster than her brain.
Under Wanqi Lang’s gaze, Xing Enxi expressionlessly walked around her and opened the passenger door to sit inside.
Wanqi Lang: “……????”
She stood outside the car in the autumn wind, looking bewildered at Xing Enxi, who sat ramrod straight in the passenger seat.
What was this situation? She just got into my car on her own? Did this legal affairs person’s brain circuits have some major issue? She had looked like she wanted to kill someone just moments ago.
Wanqi Lang walked around to the front of the car, moved the bicycle away, then pulled open the door, sat down, fastened her seatbelt, and turned her head to look at the one in the passenger seat with the eyes of someone observing a mental patient.
“……Hey! You……why are you getting in my car?”
Xing Enxi had been lost in thought and was pulled back by Wanqi Lang’s voice.
She still stared straight ahead, as if speaking to the air:
“The bike is broken.”
She paused for a few seconds and added,
“Give me a ride. The address is……”
She gave the name of a residential complex, then fell silent again.
Wanqi Lang was stunned by this righteous (yet somewhat eerie) demand! She was dazed for a few seconds before finding her voice again, her tone full of absurdity:
“Hah? I crashed your bike, so now I have to be your driver too? Xing Enxi, you……” She could not find words to describe the other woman, but deep down, she felt there was a sliver of reason to it.
“Otherwise, how do I get home?” Xing Enxi’s confidence seemed less solid than before.
Wanqi Lang: “…………”
“Fine! Fine! Consider me unlucky!”
……
As soon as the car came to a steady stop, Xing Enxi immediately unfastened her seatbelt, pushed open the door, and got out without looking back. She just wanted to escape this awkward space as quickly as possible and get away from this woman she could not understand.
“Hey! Wait!” Wanqi Lang’s eyes and hands were quick; she grabbed Xing Enxi’s suit sleeve in one motion! The fabric felt slightly cool and crisp.
Xing Enxi’s body stiffened, and she turned around extremely slowly, her gaze sharp as a knife shooting toward Wanqi Lang’s hand gripping her sleeve, her voice dropping to freezing point: “Let go.”
Wanqi Lang gripped even tighter, a roguish smile on her face: “What’s the rush, Legal Affairs Xing? It wouldn’t be right to just leave like this, would it?”
Xing Enxi’s brows knitted tightly as she tried to pull her arm back: “You crashed my bike, and you’ve already driven me home. What else is there?”
“Of course there is!” Wanqi Lang declared righteously, her other hand dramatically pointing to her faintly aching ribs, “This account from today isn’t settled yet! I can’t just take that elbow from you for nothing!”
“……” Xing Enxi looked at her “I’m the one suffering a loss” expression and took a deep breath, trying to reason, “What happened in the elevator, I’m truly sorry. But that was an accident. As for the car crash just now, although you hit me, my braking was indeed sudden. We can……”
“Stop, stop!” Wanqi Lang immediately interrupted her, shaking her head like a rattle drum.
“One thing at a time. My car got scratched too.” She pointed to her own car, “That’s a loss for me as well! But in the elevator, with that battering ram of an elbow, you caused serious trauma to my body and mind! How can that be the same!”
“Trauma?” Xing Enxi pushed up her glasses, her eyes behind the lenses full of incredulity, “You seem pretty spirited to me.”
She still had the energy to quibble here.
“That’s just the surface!” Wanqi Lang immediately clutched her ribs and made a pained face, “Internal injuries, get it? Shadows on the soul, understand? Do you know how much I fear pain? It still hurts even now! Mental damages, solace for the heart……do you get it?”
Xing Enxi’s temples throbbed from this barrage of twisted logic. She tried to struggle free: “Then what about you totally wrecking my bike? How do we calculate that loss? That’s property damage for me too.”
Wanqi Lang immediately put her hands on her hips: “That’s different! That’s an object! It’s inanimate! But this is a living, breathing person! Double blow to body and soul! There’s no way! To! Compare!”
She leaned closer to Xing Enxi, her beautiful peach-blossom eyes narrowing slightly with a hint of threat: “Anyway, if you don’t give me some explanation, I’m not leaving today!”
“You……” Xing Enxi was rendered speechless by her rogue attitude, and curious glances came from the neighbors passing by……Xing Enxi only felt her head swell like a bucket.
She did not want to tussle with this woman downstairs and become the center of neighborhood gossip.
Xing Enxi closed her eyes briefly, forcefully suppressing the churning irritation, and finally squeezed a few words out through gritted teeth: “……Come with me.”
With that, she shook off Wanqi Lang’s hand and turned to stride quickly toward the building entrance.
“Hey, that’s more like it!” Wanqi Lang’s eyes lit up, a triumphant smile spreading across her face as she trotted after her, her high heels clicking crisply on the concrete steps of the stairwell.
Xing Enxi lived on the fifth floor, with no elevator. She walked silently ahead, her steps quick, completely unwilling to acknowledge the person behind her.
Wanqi Lang did not mind; as she followed, she curiously scanned the mottled walls, thinking that this legal affairs person’s place was pretty modest.
But Xing Enxi walked faster and faster, and Wanqi Lang could barely keep up, so she reached out to tug at her sleeve.
“Hey, slow down. I’m wearing sky-high heels here, sis.”
Xing Enxi dragged her along in a stumbling gait, though she called out complaints, a triumphant smile appeared on her face; she took advantage to wrap her entire arm around Xing Enxi’s, like a giant koala clinging to her, and was dragged all the way up to the fifth floor.
“We’re here. Let go.” Xing Enxi stood at the door, panting, her face flushed with anger.
Only then did Wanqi Lang cheerfully release her and even help smooth out the wrinkled sleeve she had grabbed.
They had finally reached the door.
Xing Enxi took out her key, swiftly unlocked the door and entered in one fluid motion, intending to shut Wanqi Lang outside immediately.
However, Wanqi Lang slipped in like a slippery fish just as the door was closing.
Xing Enxi: “……”
She looked at this woman who started appraising her small apartment as if it were her own home, and a deep sense of helplessness washed over her.
Her little place was so clean and tidy that it bordered on rigid, a stark contrast to Wanqi Lang’s shiny leather skirt.
“Tsk tsk, it’s pretty clean, but a bit too desolate. Lacks some human warmth.” Wanqi Lang evaluated familiarly, her gaze sweeping over the empty living room before she unceremoniously plopped down on the sofa.
“Who asked you!” Xing Enxi shot back irritably, yanking off her jacket and throwing it onto the sofa in a venting manner before walking to the fridge to grab a bottle of ice water, which she gulped down more than half of.
The cool water settled her stomach a bit and calmed her somewhat, but seeing the woman on the sofa with her legs crossed leisurely, her anger started to rise again.
“Out with it,” Xing Enxi turned around, leaning against the small bar counter between the kitchen and living room, looking at Wanqi Lang from a few meters away, “What exactly do you want?”
