It's Hard to Be the Female Lead's Best Friend (Apocalypse) GL - Chapter 13
The zombie’s forehead still had a steel pipe stuck in it. It shook its head, and the sticky fluid from its forehead splattered everywhere along the pipe, landing on Cheng Ziyu’s pant leg.
Because it couldn’t shake off the steel pipe, it seemed somewhat agitated, constantly pounding the shelves beneath its feet. The “clanking” sound drowned out everyone’s shouting.
The zombie hunched towards Gu Qingli, who was stuck in the shelves, preparing to attack. No matter how Shu Jingyun kicked the shelves, its target remained unchanged.
Shu Jingyun gritted her teeth, her palm brushing against a sharp corner of a shelf, and bl00d oozed out, falling to the ground. She flicked her hand, and a few drops of bl00d splattered, successfully attracting the zombie’s attention.
The zombie turned, and Shu Jingyun ran behind the other two.
The zombie was now completely drawn to the bl00d. Sticky fluid dripped continuously from its mouth, and its slightly open lips revealed all its teeth: “Hungry—”
Some of its sharp teeth were loose and falling out.
Cheng Ziyu tightened her grip on the blanket.
Qin Qingyan looked anxious: “How is it still alive after being stabbed through the head?”
“Be careful,” Shu Jingyun exclaimed.
The zombie sprang forward, stomping on the shelf. Cheng Ziyu and Qin Qingyan moved apart, using the opportunity to cover it with the blanket.
The zombie stumbled and rolled on the ground, enveloped in the blanket, making it flail its arms wildly: “Roar!”
“What do we do? It looks like even if we chop off its head, it won’t die,” Shu Jingyun’s forehead was covered in sweat. She quickly picked up the hammer.
Cheng Ziyu knew that the zombie’s central nervous system wasn’t in its head; it might be in another part of its body.
“Lend a hand!”
Cheng Ziyu turned and pulled Gu Qingli up. Her calf was scratched, and her light blue jeans had turned dark blue: “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.”
Gu Qingli curved her lips and walked with a limp, picking up the watermelon knife that had been bent by the zombie’s bite. Cheng Ziyu helped support her, following behind. She admired the female lead’s courage to want to take down the zombie even while injured!
“Rip!”
Gu Qingli sliced Cheng Ziyu’s T-shirt at the waist, tearing out a small strip of cloth, which she then used to bind the wound on her calf.
“…”
Cheng Ziyu looked down at the slight bulge of flesh around her lower abdomen. A slight breeze brushed her midriff, sending a shiver of cold to her heart.
She never thought the female lead would be this kind of person.
“Everyone, be careful.”
Gu Qingli discarded the damaged knife and moved to the front of the warehouse door. It continued to thrash its body, and with a few violent shakes, a “thud” was heard as the steel pipe fell from the blanket.
Gu Qingli picked up the steel pipe and circled the zombie.
Moving to its back, she raised the steel pipe and aimed for its heart. But because the zombie twisted its body, the steel pipe struck its lower back instead.
Gu Qingli’s actions completely enraged it. It tore open the blanket and kicked Gu Qingli, sending her stumbling back a few steps into the doorframe. A dull thud followed, making her cough softly; clearly, the kick wasn’t light.
“Roar—”
The zombie then lunged towards Cheng Ziyu.
Cheng Ziyu rolled on the ground and ran into the warehouse, intending to use the shelves to block the zombie, but unexpectedly, the zombie turned and lunged at Shu Jingyun instead.
The zombie’s figure expanded in Shu Jingyun’s vision. Its gaping mouth exhaled a foul stench. Shu Jingyun casually threw her hammer.
The hammer spun, and the moment it made contact with the zombie, it knocked its head aside. The zombie’s flight path was deflected, and it landed beside Shu Jingyun; but it happened to hook its finger bone into her pant leg, pulling her down with it.
Shu Jingyun quickly scrambled up and then fell again. Looking back, the zombie had tightly hooked her pant leg. It gently tugged, and she was pulled into its embrace.
“Over here!” Cheng Ziyu threw a water bottle at the zombie, but it remained unfazed.
“Roar!”
The zombie raised its hand, its five claws spread wide!
At this moment, everyone was too late to rescue her.
Shu Jingyun’s mind was blank, as if she was seeing her boyfriend being pinned to the ground by a zombie, watching him being devoured bit by bit. Only one sentence echoed in her mind.
Live!
Thump, thump… Her heart was pounding rapidly, exceeding that of an ordinary person.
“Boom!”
Shu Jingyun felt her whole body burning, as if on fire; yet it wasn’t painful. Instead, there was a feeling of swelling heat, surging through her body.
Until the heat converged in her palms.
She instinctively extended both palms forward, and a searing flame burst forth from her hands!
The flame, like a flamethrower, erupted in a fierce spray, hitting the zombie directly. Raging flames began to consume it.
“Ow!”
The zombie constantly retreated, losing its direction, scrambling wildly. It stumbled out of the warehouse and fell to the ground, struggling repeatedly. It clutched its heart, trying to protect that area.
This was an ability. Zombies that were hard for ordinary people to kill were vulnerable before an ability user.
Cheng Ziyu ran to Shu Jingyun and saw that she had closed her eyes and fainted: “Help.”
Qin Qingyan helped her lift Shu Jingyun.
Gu Qingli, limping on her injured leg, walked over to the dying zombie. The part of its body where it clutched its heart revealed a bl00d-red stone.
“This… is the legendary ability?” Qin Qingyan was dumbfounded, but her eyes were filled with envy.
“We’ll ask about this when Shu Jingyun wakes up,” Gu Qingli’s flickering eyes held a hint of hesitation. “Qingyan, you two take her to the car, and then we’ll continue organizing the supplies.”
“Okay.”
Gu Qingli saw their backs turned, so she approached the burning zombie, swiftly touched the stone with her curved finger, and in an instant, the stone disappeared.
The two squeezed Shu Jingyun into the back seat of the car. Cheng Ziyu took a breather, then turned and entered the warehouse, picking up a bottle of mineral water and drinking it.
“How did you know there was danger inside?”
Cheng Ziyu paused, wiped the water from the corner of her mouth: “I don’t know either. I’ve heard strange sounds before, and just now I heard the zombie say ‘food’.”
Qin Qingyan wiped the sweat from her forehead, feeling a little envious: “Could it be that you’ve also awakened some kind of skill?”
“Maybe!”
Gu Qingli frowned, opening her mouth to speak, but the words wouldn’t come out. Finally, she gave up: “It’s getting late. After we move the supplies, let’s find a place to stay.”
Qin Qingyan nodded obediently: “Sister Qing, you go wait for us in the car first. Your leg is injured, it’s inconvenient.”
“Okay!”
Cheng Ziyu opened a bag of biscuits and ate while moving things. She found that the shelves in a certain corner of the warehouse were completely empty. She couldn’t help but murmur to herself, “Did the supermarket not have time to restock here?”
Qin Qingyan turned her head: “What did you say?”
Cheng Ziyu immediately shook her head: “Nothing.”
Cheng Ziyu pushed a loaded shopping cart towards the car. The burning zombie emitted a burnt smell, which was a bit stifling: “Oh right, zombie core!”
The core of a high-tier F-class zombie was much better than that of an ordinary zombie. It could not only replenish abilities but might also enhance them.
Qin Qingyan suddenly patted her shoulder: “Don’t always be so distracted. We’ll leave after loading this car.”
In the car, Gu Qingli squinted, taking in Cheng Ziyu’s expression. Her lips curved into a meaningful and somewhat eerie smile.
Cheng Ziyu just happened to catch Gu Qingli’s fleeting smile. Her heart trembled. She didn’t understand why the female lead’s smile was so terrifying.
Had experiencing life and death still not earned her the female lead’s trust? Cheng Ziyu felt a slight headache. She hadn’t disobeyed the female lead, had she?
“Sister Qing, are you okay to drive?” Qin Qingyan had finished loading the supplies and was already in the back seat.
“I’m fine.” Her voice was as gentle as a spring breeze.
Cheng Ziyu pursed her lips, feeling a little heartbroken!
The car started, and everyone could finally breathe.
Gu Qingli’s slender fingers adjusted the sound system.
“Static… static…”
“It works! Let me do it!” Cheng Ziyu wanted to show off, reaching out to take over the task of adjusting. Her fingertips accidentally brushed against Gu Qingli’s.
Cheng Ziyu’s heart skipped a beat, a momentary shock like electricity; yet it was so comfortable that her scalp tingled, making her want more.
Cheng Ziyu quietly glanced at Gu Qingli. Her distinctly jointed fingers gripped the steering wheel, gently turning it, as if polishing some precious treasure.
Her gaze moved up from her knuckles. There was some ash on her fair, lotus-root-like arm, likely from the recent fight, which made Cheng Ziyu feel a slight pang of regret, wishing she could wipe it clean with water for her.
Gu Qingli hadn’t seen Cheng Ziyu change the station for a while, so she couldn’t help but glance over. She saw the other’s round eyes staring at her wrist, but it didn’t feel uncomfortable.
It was a pure gaze, one of admiration.
She felt a playful urge, deliberately raising her wrist to smooth the hair by her ear. Sure enough, the other person’s gaze remained fixed, not moving an inch.
Cheng Ziyu blinked. Gu Qingli’s smiling lips seemed to be mocking her for her perverted gaze. She looked away with a soft huff, expressing her disdain.
Gu Qingli’s eyes never left her, naturally catching the other’s disdainful look. She said in a faint voice, “Why were you staring at the zombie just now?”
Cheng Ziyu’s hand paused, as she pondered her words.
“Static… Apocalypse… static…”
Qin Qingyan heard the sound and couldn’t help but lean forward.
“This is Su City TV… static… Lock your doors and wait for rescue… static… Keep food supplies as plentiful as possible… According to reliable sources… a survivor base is being established.”
Cheng Ziyu hadn’t expected the survivor base to be established so quickly. With a base, humanity’s survival could be greatly guaranteed.
“Static… Base location… Jing City… static… Or stay at home and wait for rescue… static…”
Gu Qingli’s eyes held a hint of coldness. Both Cheng Ziyu and Qin Qingyan shivered, feeling an inexplicable chill.
“Static…”
Qin Qingyan: “Should we go to Jing City?”
Cheng Ziyu nodded vigorously in agreement with Qin Qingyan. The male lead was in Jing City; they should hurry there to develop their relationship!
Gu Qingli gazed into the distance. Seeing the sky gradually darkening, she didn’t answer the question: “Let’s find a place to spend the night first.”
Cheng Ziyu and Qin Qingyan exchanged glances, neither understanding why Gu Qingli seemed somewhat displeased upon hearing about the survivor base.
But neither dared to ask!
Cheng Ziyu gave Qin Qingyan a look: Use the courage you have for scheming against Gu Qingli to ask!
Qin Qingyan touched her face: “I know I’m good-looking, but I don’t like women.”
