It’s Not Okay to Kiss Me as Soon as We Meet (ABO) - Chapter 12
Lin Feng saw Lin Huaiyi’s attitude as unhurried and composed with poise, and he could not help but appreciate her a bit.
At first, when Lin Feng suspected that Lin Huaiyi’s soul had been replaced, he had considered various extreme measures and wanted to do anything to get his daughter back. He even had people secretly collect a lot of information.
After consulting many experts, Lin Feng learned that differentiating into ordinary-level AOs generally meant just a few days of high fever. A-level AOs lost a whole circle of weight from the initial differentiation to the final completion. Differentiating into high-level AOs meant even greater bodily changes and exponentially increased physical consumption. If the body’s own strength was insufficient, there was a chance of death due to differentiation.
S-level was already very rare, and SSS-level AOs, according to current records, numbered no more than ten nationwide, with their data files all in a confidential state. After all, those who differentiated into SSS-level AOs became influential figures, and they generally did not agree to have their body data stored in archives for others to study.
Lin Huaiyi had actually dodged a bullet; she had nearly ended up with her eyes going dark and being sent to a lab.
Lin Feng pondered for a moment and then spoke slowly.
Lin Feng: “First, you must promise me one thing. My wife does not know that Xiao Yi has passed away, so you must pretend in front of her that Xiao Yi is still here. Since you have obtained our daughter’s body, I hope you can treat her mother well.”
Lin Feng’s request was reasonable, and Lin Huaiyi had no reason to refuse. In her previous life, Lin Huaiyi had been an orphan. In the original owner’s mind, she saw memories of her parents, many of which were warm snippets. When Lin Huaiyi had been an orphan, she had envied others who had their mom and dad taking them to play and had fantasized about what her own parents looked like and whether someone would come to pick her up.
But such fantasies had never come true. By the time Lin Huaiyi grew up, she could obtain what she wanted through her own efforts and gradually forgot the childhood longing to see her parents.
After coming to this world, Lin Huaiyi met the original owner’s parents. Their features resembled hers so closely that Lin Huaiyi felt a natural closeness to Lin’s father and mother.
When Lin’s mother helped her decorate the apartment near Shen Corporation, though it carried an overbearing air that brooked no argument, it all stemmed from the doting and care in her heart for her daughter. Such actions cleverly filled the gap in Lin Huaiyi’s heart. That gap from childhood, when she had watched enviously as other children had their parents bustling about for them, preparing this and that, while she had nothing.
Thinking of this, Lin Huaiyi spoke. “Mr. Lin, rest assured. Though I have nothing to my name and cannot offer you and Mrs. Lin much, if the two of you need me for anything, no matter which Lin Huaiyi it is, I will fulfill my duties as a child to my parents.”
A smile appeared on Lin Feng’s face as he looked at Lin Huaiyi and said, “I believe you.”
Though Lin Huaiyi’s soul had changed, the bl00d-connected rapport was still there, and Lin Feng could not help but treat Lin Huaiyi as one of his own.
Lin Feng: “As for your request to have me bridge Shen Corporation and Yamamoto, Lin Corporation and Shen Corporation are competitors. Strictly speaking, Lin Corporation would not do such a loss-making deal unless you offer something that moves me.”
Lin Huaiyi took a deep breath and felt very troubled. Tears streamed in her heart; she did not know what such a successful person could possibly value in her. She wished Lin Feng would just state it directly. After all, Lin Huaiyi was now a penniless pauper; even the house she lived in was under Mrs. Lin’s name. She could not offer anything material that would move Lin Feng.
Lin Feng’s gaze sharpened, as if he had seen through Lin Huaiyi’s inner thoughts in an instant, and he spoke. “Lin Corporation cannot be without an heir. I want you back at Lin Corporation in three years.”
Lin Feng knew why Lin Huaiyi had proposed leaving Lin Corporation first to develop elsewhere. It was nothing more than using it as a springboard to gradually detach from Lin Corporation. In the future, with the sea vast for fish to leap and the sky wide for birds to fly, once she accumulated enough capital, she could have no ties left to Lin Corporation.
When Lin Huaiyi had proposed moving out alone back then, Lin Feng had not stopped her. For one, he was not entirely sure if his daughter had changed souls. For another, he wanted to observe Lin Huaiyi’s actions first.
But now it was confirmed that Lin Huaiyi showed no anomalies. Moreover, his daughter’s body was now a rare SSS-level Alpha in the entire world. While grieving the fall of his daughter’s soul, Lin Feng also had to consider Lin Corporation’s future.
He and Mrs. Lin had only Lin Huaiyi as their daughter and had always raised her as the heir. Now Lin Huaiyi was twenty-three; it was not realistic for them to find an heir out of thin air.
Lin Huaiyi was now a top-level Alpha, with talents far surpassing ordinary people. According to social laws and clan etiquette, Lin Huaiyi’s ties to Lin Corporation could not be severed. As long as Lin Huaiyi caused no issues, the position of Lin Corporation’s heir remained Lin Feng’s top choice in his heart. His requirement for Lin Huaiyi to return to Lin Corporation in three years was something he had thought through deeply.
This request left Lin Huaiyi unable to answer as easily as the previous one. Filial piety to Lin’s mother was a matter of course. She had used someone’s daughter’s body to continue surviving; there was no reason to leave her parents to face old age without care. This was something she had decided early on.
But inheriting Lin Corporation was something she had not considered before.
Deep down, she did not want too much overlap with the original owner’s previous life; after all, this was another person’s life.
As for the original owner’s chaebol life, it was not hard for Lin Huaiyi to achieve satisfactory material conditions through her own abilities. In the process of building her career, she could enjoy the fruits of her efforts, and Lin Huaiyi liked that grounded feeling. Such gains were sweeter to her than unearned ones.
If she agreed to Lin Feng’s condition, would it not be equivalent to signing a deed of servitude?
Lin Huaiyi hesitated.
Shen Li’s face flashed in her mind again, along with Shen Li’s ambitions and the way Shen Li was mocked by those Alphas in the company.
If even she did not help Shen Li, what would Shen Li do?
Lin Huaiyi’s expression changed back and forth. Now the leisurely one became Lin Feng. He lit a cigar and exhaled a perfect smoke ring. Lin Huaiyi’s impatience deepened; she usually hated the smell of smoke the most.
Fine, fine. Who let her have a soft heart? She could not bear to see Shen Li suffer. Help a person to the end, send the Buddha to the West. Better to decide straightforwardly. Lin Huaiyi made up her mind, looked up, and said crisply, “Deal.”
Interest flashed in Lin Feng’s eyes. “Yo, selling yourself so quickly? Such a romantic soul really is my Lin’s seed.”
The freshly self-sold Lin Huaiyi said grumpily, “Quit taking advantage of me.”
Lin Feng quickly changed his tune. “Deal, deal. No regrets once the piece is placed. I trust your character.”
Then he took out his phone and, in front of Lin Huaiyi, called Yamamoto Corporation’s president, Yamamoto Daisuke, to arrange for Shen Li and Lin Huaiyi to meet him.
Lin Feng waved his phone at Lin Huaiyi. “I have made the appointment for you, tomorrow at noon twelve o’clock. You can have half an hour for the meeting. Whether you can negotiate successfully depends on your own abilities. If you cannot, hurry back to the company and go to work.”
Seeing things progress smoothly, Lin Huaiyi’s brows relaxed. She nodded at Lin Feng and said, “Thank you truly this time. Time is pressing, so I will take my leave first.”
Walking out of the Lin Corporation building, Lin Huaiyi sighed inwardly. Her original idea had been to gradually distance herself from Lin Corporation, but fate seemed to be slowly binding her to it.
Lin Huaiyi called Shen Li and informed her that they could meet Yamamoto Daisuke at noon twelve o’clock tomorrow. Shen Li pressed on how she had obtained the meeting opportunity, but Lin Huaiyi dodged the question.
For one, Lin Huaiyi did not know how to explain her relationship with Lin Corporation. For another, Lin Huaiyi did not want Shen Li to know that to help her, she had sold her whole life to Lin Corporation. It was too heavy a burden for Shen Li to bear.
Lin Huaiyi shifted the topic to the authorization matter and said, “We need to gather more information on Yamamoto Daisuke. Whether we can persuade him depends on this half hour. We still do not know what agreement Yamamoto has reached with the person behind the scenes. The chips we offer must be heavy enough to make Yamamoto choose to help us.”
Shen Li said confidently, “Mm, rest assured. As long as we can meet, things will be easy. I will trouble you to act as my translator then. I will definitely find a way to move Yamamoto Daisuke.”
At exactly nine o’clock in the evening, Lin Huaiyi met Shen Li at the airport. Lin Huaiyi discovered that Shen Li was alone, without Special Assistant Yang.
Lin Huaiyi waved enthusiastically, afraid Shen Li would not see her.
Lin Huaiyi: “Where is Special Assistant Yang?”
Shen Li glanced at her and said, “Special Assistant Yang will stay at the company these two days to handle work. We cannot let others discover we went to Japan, or it will add variables.”
Tonight, Shen Li wore a business suit, holding a tablet in her hand with her fingers sliding nonstop. Lin Huaiyi saw that the tablet was densely packed with information on Yamamoto Daisuke and was surprised by Shen Li’s information-gathering ability. How had she obtained so much data in such a short time?
Shen Li lifted her noble and aloof forehead, not sparing Lin Huaiyi an extra glance. She rummaged in her backpack for another tablet and handed it to Lin Huaiyi, saying, “Here, for you. Study it well.”
Lin Huaiyi took the tablet with a bitter face. Shen Li glanced at Lin Huaiyi, her eyes seeming to say, Got a problem?
Lin Huaiyi shook her head frantically.
On the plane, their seats were in business class, where legs could stretch comfortably. Shen Li continued her frantic data-memorization mode, with no intention of chatting with Lin Huaiyi. Lin Huaiyi pursed her lips and also opened the tablet Shen Li had given her to study carefully.
Time passed as the two focused on their own efforts. Lin Huaiyi looked and looked until she unknowingly fell asleep. In the middle of the night, she was groggily pushed awake by Shen Li.
Lin Huaiyi heard Shen Li’s gentle voice. “Wake up. We have arrived.”
Opening her eyes, to her left were the brilliant lights of Tokyo, Japan, and to her right was Shen Li’s stunning profile. Lin Huaiyi instantly sobered.
As soon as they exited the airport, a black sedan waited nearby. Shen Li walked toward it with familiarity. Lin Huaiyi asked curiously, “Shen Li, how do you know this is the car to pick us up? What if it is a shady cab? Then we might not see the sun of our homeland again.”
Shen Li was too lazy to answer such a foolish question.
In fact, all the powerful families in A City had their own crests. Shen Corporation’s crest was a blue bird, and there was a small logo in a concealed spot on the car. Lin Huaiyi, not being a native of this world, naturally did not know this.
The sedan’s performance was excellent. The black body glided into Tokyo’s fast-paced streets without a sound.
It was now two in the morning, yet Tokyo remained lit with revelry, neon lights flashing past the car one after another.
Shen Li had Special Assistant Yang book a suite with two rooms. After arriving at the hotel, Shen Li hesitated a moment but still explained to Lin Huaiyi, “I am used to staying at this hotel on business trips. We booked in a hurry this time, so only this suite was left. You do not mind, right?”
Lin Huaiyi was so sleepy her mind was not clear and wondered why Shen Li asked this. Was not the suite two rooms? What problem could there be with staying? She did not understand what Shen Li was explaining.
She agreed haphazardly, went in, and splashed cold water on her face before sobering up. She and Shen Li were not the same gender now!
She buried her head in the sink and thought: This damned AO world, was it trying to kill her?
But then she thought again: Whatever. Shen Li, an Omega, did not mind. What was she, an Alpha, minding!
