Episode 11: In Other Words, It Wasn’t a Dream  

“Munya, munya~ Hah! Was that… a dream?”  

That dream felt way too real. I could swear I had a proper conversation with the Creator God.  

As I lay in bed, confused, I noticed the fluffy Lagios in my arms looking up at me. A puppy-shaped body pillow—amazing! Starting today, Lagios is officially my cuddle buddy every night.  

“It was not a dream. I have been entrusted with a message to ensure you do not break your promise.”  

“So it wasn’t a dream… Should I tell Father about it?”  

“I believe that would be wise. Delaying problems is the height of folly.”  

“Lagios, you’re strict. Alright, I’ll do it. Huh? Where’s Pii-chan?”  

Last night, I was sure it had perched on the back of the chair. But now, it was nowhere to be seen. Maybe it went for a morning stroll?  

I glanced around the room but couldn’t spot it. Normally, if I called its name, it’d dramatically appear with an “I’m here!” or something.  

“It returned the moment Master fell asleep.”  

“Returned? Wait, then why are you still here, Lagios?”  

“Because you instructed me to be your body pillow, Master.”  

“Oh… I see. Did I do something bad to Pii-chan?”  

“There is no need for concern. If necessary, you may simply summon it again.”  

That’s true. Now that I think about it, with everything that happened yesterday, I forgot to ask Selvus how to dismiss summoned magical creatures. I should ask him when I visit the Summoning Guild.  

“By the name of Rufus Eladoria, I command you. Appear, Pii-chan!”  

“Pii-chan! I’ve kept you waiting!”  

“Your catchphrase changed a little, but whatever. Looks like I can summon them just by calling the name I gave them.”  

Experiment successful. If I can summon them without any issues, I’d rather use the names I gave them. It makes them feel special and stronger. Also… is it just me, or does Pii-chan’s beak look sharper than yesterday?  

“Prince Rufus, it is time to wake up.”  

“I’m already up.”  

I responded to the servant’s voice that came with a knock, and the door slowly opened.  

I may be an adult inside. But since I’m royalty, they don’t let me get ready on my own. Apparently, dressing me is the servants’ job.  

One time, I tried changing by myself. But Mother scolded me. She said I shouldn’t take away their duties. Ever since then, I just let them do their thing. After all, they need their jobs to survive.  

As I was thinking about this, one of the servants who entered suddenly froze. Their face stiffened in shock. Then, they slowly stepped back toward the door before cautiously asking me:  

“P-Prince Rufus… what is that creature in your bed?”  

“Oh, this little guy? I summoned it with my Summoning Skill. Cute, right?”  

“It certainly is… but it has horns and wings, doesn’t it?”  

“Yeah, because he’s a dragon.”  

“A D-Dragon?!”  

The servants huddled in the corner of the room, looking pale. Maybe it’s just my imagination, but they seem genuinely terrified. Even though Lagios is this adorable…  

Hmm, looks like word of yesterday’s events hasn’t reached them yet. I gave the servants a brief rundown of what had happened.  

“We heard that Prince Rufus inherited the summoning skill, but we never imagined you had summoned a dragon…”  

“The fact that Summoning Skills allow you to call forth dragons… that’s incredible.”  

Once they realized Lagios wasn’t dangerous, the servants cautiously started petting him. Their faces melted into pure bliss.  

I totally understand their reaction, but… uh, guys? I’m still half-naked here. What about my clothes?  

After finally getting dressed, I headed to the knights’ training grounds with Lagios and Pii-chan.  

I needed to introduce them to everyone as soon as possible. They’re way too cute to keep to myself!  

Also, based on the servants’ reaction, it seems that word about me actually summoning magical creatures hasn’t spread much yet. If I keep getting shocked reactions like this morning, it’d be unfair to Lagios and Pii-chan.  

As expected, when I arrived at the training grounds, I felt the knights’ stares. Looks like most of them still didn’t know. Should I introduce them? What should I do?  

For now, I decided to start practicing with a wooden sword. Lagios and Pii-chan immediately cheered me on.  

“Master, put more strength into your stance. Your lower body is unstable.”  

“Pii-chan! Now’s your chance—draw your sword and unleash the Swallow Reversal!”  

(Note: It’s a skill name from the game TYPE-MOON. Man, this novel has so many references.)

“Even if you say that, I’m already trying my best here!”  

Wait… what even was that, Pii-chan? Where did you learn that?  

As I continued practicing my swings, still puzzled by Pii-chan’s strange outburst, Leonard-onii-sama came over to check on me.  

“Rufus, you won’t improve if you keep swinging like that with such poor posture.”  

Ugh, that’s basically the same thing Lagios told me. Am I really that unsteady? But I’m still a kid… and a prince. Isn’t this normal?  

“Leonard-onii-sama, please don’t compare me to someone like you who has the Sword Saint Skill. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, you know.”  

“That’s not true. If you train every day, results will come, guaranteed.”  

“Really?”  

I glanced over at Gilliam-onii-sama, who was training nearby.  

He’s been practicing for over ten years longer than me, yet… he doesn’t seem that much better. Well, he’s obviously better than me, but still.  

“Believe it or not, Gilliam-onii-sama has improved a lot. He used to be just like you when he started out. So if you keep working hard, you can at least reach his level—”  

“Leonard, sounds like you’re having an interesting conversation. Mind if I join?”  

“Ah… Gilliam-onii-sama, it’s really not that interesting of a discussion, I promise?”  

I didn’t miss the nervous sweat forming on Leonard-onii-sama’s face.  

Sure, Gilliam-onii-sama isn’t great at swordsmanship, but he’s skilled in various types of magic. If they fought seriously, Leonard-onii-sama would probably win thanks to his Sword Saint Skill. But he wouldn’t come out unscathed.  

“By the way, since I’ve completed the Skill Inheritance Ceremony, that means I can use magic now too, right?”  

“I think so, but… didn’t Selvus tell you what kind of magic you can use after inheriting the Summoning skill?”
