Episode 127: In Other Words, Airships Really Do Exist
According to Brother Gilliam’s explanation, Airships were vessels that once freely navigated the skies of this world. The members of the expedition seemed familiar with this concept, as they gazed at the tablet—and at me—with sparkling eyes.
Why are they looking at me? I don’t think I have anything to do with this. Do they believe I’m the only one who can operate the tablet? That’s a huge misunderstanding.
“Did the ships really fly in the sky?”
“It’s no wonder you’re skeptical, Leonard. Even I was half-doubtful until Rufus got this tablet working.”
It seems His Majesty the King truly was secretly working on an Airship restoration project. Now that I’m getting involved, maybe I should come clean to Brother Gilliam. Once we return to the inn, I’ll secretly send a letter to His Majesty saying, “I can’t keep this secret any longer.”
“A ship that flies… I want to see it too!”
“I knew you’d say that, Leonard. Alright then, let’s resume investigating this facility. This ‘terminal map’ must be the map of this place, right?”
Brother Gilliam looked at me. I wanted to ask, *Why are you asking me?* But at this point, fully bluffing my way out of this situation would be impossible. The best I can do is try to muddle through somehow.
“I believe so. Would you like to take a look?”
“Take a look? Yeah, I suppose I would.”
Right. People who’ve never seen a tablet before wouldn’t understand how it works. Just catching a glimpse yesterday wouldn’t have been enough to fully grasp it.
I casually tapped on the terminal map app, and the map instantly filled the screen.
“Wow, a map appeared! How does it work?”
“I’m not sure of the details, but it seems to show just how advanced ancient civilizations were.”
I don’t know exactly how it functions, but it seems the tablet’s location is displayed on the map as a green dot. It’s zoomed in too close to make much sense. But zooming out should reveal the overall layout.
“Hmm, this map operates similarly to the magical tool you were using yesterday, Rufus. If that’s the case, then by doing this… Oh, so that’s the structure of this place.”
The overall layout of the terminal came into view. It appears that this is one of the meeting rooms. In that case, does that mean this spacious area is the Airship hangar?
The layout isn’t particularly complicated, but it’s quite expansive. Fortunately, it seems the hangar isn’t too far from our current location.
“Rufus, what is this red area?”
“Isn’t that the spot where Brother Leonard broke through earlier? It looks like the mysterious metal in the walls is reacting to it.”
“I see. Impressive as always, Rufus.”
“Uh, well…”
I didn’t know how to respond to Brother Leonard’s admiration. It’s starting to feel like everyone thinks I know everything.
I’d love to clear this awkward air by opening a window. But unfortunately, there are no windows here.
“Hmm, the hangar, huh? There might just be an Airship stored there. And according to Rufus, this area is completely destroyed, correct?”
Following Brother Gilliam’s words, I looked closer and saw that about half the walls on the map were marked in red. Well, we are underground. Maybe they collapsed under the pressure. If that’s the case…
“Brother Gilliam, isn’t this place also dangerous? The ceiling could collapse at any moment.”
“From what we’ve investigated, it should be safe. It’s probably not a cave-in but damage caused by something else. I plan to look into that, too.”
As expected of a researcher—he’s determined to investigate whatever piques his curiosity. For now, we decided to head towards the hangar.
Following the map, we retraced our steps.
“Brother Gilliam, could it be that the Demons were targeting this facility?”
Brother Leonard was leading the way. Without looking back, he voiced his thoughts. He was staying vigilant in case of any surprises. But so far, nothing had happened.
“I can’t rule out that possibility. If that’s the case, then there might be more secrets here than just the Airship. Rufus, do you have any ideas?”
“Hmm, nothing comes to mind. But if that’s the case, maybe the Demons were after the Airship itself?”
“I see. Just the revival of Airships in the present day would indeed cause quite an uproar.”
Brother Gilliam fell into deep thought, murmuring to himself.
What were they planning to do with the Airships? Conduct aerial reconnaissance? Or perhaps drop weapons of mass destruction from the sky? Both seem plausible.
Come to think of it, there might be weapons of mass destruction somewhere other than inside Tora-chan. Realizing this possibility sent a chill down my spine.
“Master, are you okay?”
“I’m fine. I have Lagios and everyone with me, after all.”
I hugged Lagios tightly. It seemed my words were overheard, as discontented voices came from up ahead.
“I can’t just ignore that. Rufus, we’re here too, aren’t we?”
“Exactly. It wouldn’t be fair to forget about us.”
“Of course, I’m counting on you two as well, Brothers.”
Why do my brothers get jealous of my cute, fluffy companions? Could it be that Brother Gilliam and Brother Leonard are also interested in fluffiness? Honestly, those two can be so insincere.
