Episode 130: In Other Words, No, Absolutely Not
As the Guardians approached a certain distance, they emitted what sounded like a warning alarm. After that, they seemed to speak in a mechanical voice. But of course, I couldn’t understand a word of it.
They were probably speaking an ancient language. It would have been great if someone here could understand it, but I highly doubted anyone could. Even if we could decipher ancient texts, pronunciation was another matter entirely.
After repeating the same thing about three times, they must have realized we weren’t going to comply. With a clank, they drew what looked like batons. Since they were made of metal, getting hit would probably be more than just painful.
“I don’t understand what they’re saying, but it looks like they’re ready to use force.”
“It seems that way. If only we could comprehend them…”
“Can’t be helped. Technically, we’re the intruders here. But we have no choice but to fight to protect ourselves.”
Before Brother Leonard could even finish speaking, the Guardians launched their attack. He immediately stepped forward to engage them.
With a clang, his greatsword clashed against a baton. The greatsword came out victorious, slicing the baton cleanly in half. Without hesitation, Brother Leonard brought his sword down again. He crushed the Guardian’s arm and shoulder. However, he couldn’t cut all the way through.
“Ugh, they’re tough! Be careful!”
While deflecting an incoming attack from another Guardian with his greatsword, Brother Leonard shouted a warning.
This wasn’t looking great. We had to start attacking as well. Balt, Ray, and the knight guards had already begun their fight.
“Moguran, protect me! Tetsujin, attack the Guardians—use any means necessary!”
“Got it!”
“Ma!”
With a clank, razor-sharp claws extended from Moguran’s hands. Damn, that looks cool.
Next to it, Tetsujin’s eyes began to glow—wait, not just its eyes, its entire body was lighting up!
Crap. I completely forgot. For some reason, Tetsujin has a Destroy Mode installed.
I realized this too late.
Parts of Tetsujin’s body opened up, emitting a bright red light.
He thrust one hand forward. And with a high-pitched *kyuuiin!* sound, its palm began spinning like a drill. It took aim—and then launched its arm straight at a Guardian that had been approaching from Balt’s side.
Drill Rocket Punch!
The attack landed perfectly. It sliced through the Guardian’s torso in a shower of sparks.
Balt turned his head to look at me.
No, don’t. Don’t give me that “Not again?” look. I didn’t plan this, okay?!
Without missing a beat, Tetsujin turned its attention to another Guardian. This time, from the end of its missing arm, it fired an ultra-thick laser beam.
Fwoosh!
The laser struck the Guardian head-on, burning straight through it. Laser weapons are terrifying.
And it still wasn’t done.
Tetsujin stood perfectly still, then—its entire body began to separate into multiple floating parts.
I know this. This is an all-range attack!
Its detached parts flew around, unleashing lasers, drills, punches, and cutter strikes from every possible direction.
The Guardians had no chance. One after another, they were completely obliterated.
…………This was starting to feel a little cruel. I almost felt sorry for them.
Brother Leonard and the others watched the one-sided massacre. They looked utterly horrified.
Once the Guardians were no longer moving, Tetsujin finally stopped attacking. It returned to its original form with a *pshhh* of steam as its Destroy Mode deactivated.
Note to self: Never make Tetsujin angry. No. Absolutely not.
Just as the eerie silence settled in, a frantic voice rang out—it was Brother Gilliam.
“Wait a minute! I was hoping to keep at least one intact for research—!”
Brother Gilliam ran over but fell speechless at the sight before him.
Nothing remained except the wreckage of what used to be Guardians.
Too bad, Brother Gilliam. If you had come a little earlier, maybe… No, never mind. It was basically a carpet-bombing attack. Nothing could have survived.
“…How did this even happen…?”
“Ah, well, um… you see… it’s Rufus’ fault.”
“Hey, Brother Leonard! Don’t pin this on me! I was just trying to keep everyone safe!”
“I know, I know. But don’t you think this was a bit… excessive?”
Brother Leonard glanced at the scattered wreckage. Yeah… maybe he had a point. As I stared at the metal parts strewn across the ground, all I could do was silently press my hands together in my heart.
I wasn’t sure if the Guardians had souls. But if they did, I hoped they could rest in peace.
“Rufus-sama, are you alright!?”
“Miss Flare, as you can see, everyone is safe.”
Flare-chan arrived a little late—apparently, she hadn’t been able to keep up with Brother Gilliam’s full-speed dash. Brother Gilliam rushed ahead, dazzled by the Guardians.
Honestly, Brother Gilliam should probably start by training to match pace with his guards. This was something I should report to His Majesty the King.
…Not because I was annoyed that Brother Gilliam had made things awkward for everyone. Definitely not.
“Wait… don’t tell me… Rufus-sama, you did all this…?”
Flare-chan was speechless.
I had a feeling she was about to report this to the King, too.
For a brief moment, I caught a glimpse of my future—standing next to Brother Gilliam, both of us getting scolded.
