Episode 136: In Other Words, Scholars Are Amazing
The day’s investigation ended without any major incidents. If anything unusual happened, it was that Brother Gilliam insisted on staying in the Airship. Only for him to be forcibly dragged away by Brother Leonard.
I’m really glad Brother Leonard was here.
“But there were guest rooms! That means we had to stay, right?”
“Sleeping in a musty old room like that isn’t a good idea. It’s bound to be bad for your health.”
“If I fall ill because of mold that’s been alive since the ancient civilization era, I’d consider it an honor.”
Brother Gilliam said this with absolute conviction.
No good. This man is a hopeless case. Just look at Brother Leonard’s exasperated expression. I’m sure my face looks exactly the same.
The only one who can stop Brother Gilliam is Brother Leonard. And even then, it’s a close call.
Maybe I should summon Mother. If only I had a summoning skill to call her here instantly—but, of course, that’s impossible. Too bad.
Would Mother come? She’s probably already noticed that Brother Gilliam is missing.
But if she were to leave the royal castle as well, things might get even more chaotic. There would be no one left to keep His Majesty the King in check.
And if the King were to go into a frenzy… there’s no doubt about what he would do. He would come here. Absolutely, without question.
“Sigh…”
“What’s wrong, Rufus? Sighing like that. Are you regretting not moving the Airship outside?”
“Not at all.”
What should I do? Who reported the discovery of the ancient ruins? Was it Brother Leonard? In that case, this is all his fault. He should have waited until we finished our work at the Duke of Flute’s estate and returned to the castle before reporting it.
When I mentioned this to Brother Leonard, he only gave me a wry smile.
“Well, isn’t it your fault for discovering the ancient ruins in the first place?”
“Ugh… You’re right. I should have sealed them up properly so no one could ever dig them up again.”
“Hey, stop that! This is a major discovery, you know!? If we can get the Airship working, the Kingdom of Eladoria will advance tremendously. No doubt about it!”
Brother Gilliam passionately declared his point. Meanwhile, Brother Leonard and I exchanged weary glances. To achieve what he envisions, we will undoubtedly have to make many sacrifices—like ourselves. Just thinking about it dampens my spirits.
I wanted to return to my room and rest, but Brother Gilliam’s machine-gun chatter showed no signs of stopping. He must have been extremely excited.
Seeing him like this, I couldn’t help but admire his restraint in front of everyone until now.
In the end, it was Balt who put an end to it. He got angry when Brother Gilliam tried to keep talking past midnight. He told him to stop because it might affect my health.
As expected of Balt—always reliable. I took the opportunity to chime in, saying that if he continued any longer, I would never help him again. That finally ended the discussion. If we had let him go on, we probably would have seen the sunrise before he stopped.

The next morning. Brother Leonard and I were still somewhat exhausted. But Brother Gilliam looked completely fine. He probably hadn’t slept at all. Are all scholars like this?
For today’s investigation, we decided to split into two teams.
One team would examine the Airship, while the other would explore different parts of the terminal. There was another ancient ruin hidden within the Liberia mines, so we couldn’t afford to spend too much time here.
“I’ll leave the Airship investigation to the research team. I’ll be investigating another part of the terminal with Leonard and Rufus. My guards should stay with the research team.”
“Are you sure that’s okay?”
One of Brother Gilliam’s knights furrowed his brows in concern.
Brother Gilliam simply shook his head.
“There’s no need to worry. I can fight a little, you know. But with these two around, I doubt I’ll even get the chance.”
He looked over at us as he said that.
Brother Leonard and I nodded. It wasn’t just us—Balt, Ray, and Brother Leonard’s other guards were also with us. There really shouldn’t be any problems.
In fact, I was more worried about the research team. They might be the ones in real danger.
We parted ways with the research team and proceeded forward. It seemed that Brother Leonard’s subordinates had already examined the hangar the previous day. And they reported that no new Guardians had appeared.
Brother Gilliam looked disappointed at this news. But at least that meant we could move forward without worry.
“The path ahead is likely blocked by either a wall or collapsed structures.”
“Ah, that was the area marked in red, right? Hopefully, there’s a way through.”
Brother Leonard pondered with a thoughtful “Hmm.” While Brother Gilliam wore a serious expression as he gazed ahead.
Was the red-marked area completely crushed under the earth? Or had it disappeared entirely? Either way, there might not be anything of value beyond this point.
After walking for a while, a wall of dirt came into view. It seemed that everything ahead was completely buried. There was no way to continue. We could have Moguran dig through it, but…
If the ruins didn’t continue beyond this point, there would be no point in digging. Hopefully, the tablet’s signal had just been interrupted, and the ruins were still intact past this obstruction.
