Episode 14: In Other Words, I Can Use Any Magic
“Alright, let’s try it out right away. First, I need to summon a magical creature that can act as a firestarter. Heh heh heh, what should I go with? When you think of fire, it’s gotta be *that*, right?”
“Um, Prince Rufus, I don’t mean to doubt you, but… is this really okay?”
“It’s fine. No problem at all. I never fail.”
Selvus and Lala both had stiff expressions. But my trusty partners, Lagios and Pii-chan, were clapping excitedly. Their eyes were filled with complete trust in me—I couldn’t let them down now.
Of course, I could probably just ask Lagios to start a fire, and he’d do it easily. But that’s beside the point. I want to summon a new magical creature.
“In the name of Rufus Eladoria, I command you—manifest, Salamander!”
“Young master, you have summoned me?”
“Whoa!“
Lala yelped in surprise. She fell backward in her chair as the Salamander appeared on the table. I could see her underwear.
Did she hit her head? I hurried over to check on her. Fortunately, it seemed like she hadn’t. But she was clearly shaken. Was it a natural aversion to reptiles? But look at it—it’s adorable!
“Sorry for scaring you, Lala. And sorry, Salamander, that must have been surprising for you too.”
“Not at all. I am used to such things. More importantly, I am honored that you have summoned me.”
Saying that, the Salamander bowed deeply. …….…Why does it talk like a samurai?
With its big, round eyes, the Salamander gazed up at me from the table. I know some people might not like reptiles. But personally, I think it’s really—no, extremely cute.
I gently scooped up its small body, which was just the right size to fit in my hands. Whoa, so smooth! It seems the red scales covering its body give it this sleek texture.
“Um, Guild Master… is it not hot?”
Lala glanced nervously at the Salamander in my hands. Yeah, she’s definitely not a fan. I don’t think she’ll be able to summon a Salamander herself. I’ll need to think of another magical creature for her.
“Not at all. This thing on its forehead is probably fire, right?”
I touched the small flame flickering on the Salamander’s forehead. But it didn’t feel hot at all. If anything, it was just pleasantly warm. How does that work? Is it fake?
“Young master, of course it is not hot. I am not in an attack state.”
“Oh, I see. You can choose whether to attack or not. That makes sense. Even animals don’t always keep their claws out.”
That explanation satisfied me. But apparently, it didn’t sit well with everyone else in the room. They folded their arms and tilted their heads in confusion.
Magical creatures are still full of mysteries. It’s going to take a while for everyone to fully understand.
“Well, now that I’ve successfully summoned it, let’s see what the Salamander can do.”
“Leave it to me!”
It sure sounded confident. This was promising.
I asked Balt to bring me something we could safely set on fire. He returned with a piece of paper and a metal tray. Yeah, that should work.
“Salamander, can you set fire to the paper in this container?”
“As you wish.”
The Salamander exhaled a small flame. The paper ignited effortlessly.
Success.
It may have been indirect, but I had just used Fire Magic.
Seeing this, Selvus and Lala’s eyes sparkled with amazement.
A new era of Summoning Skills had begun. I would become the Summoner King!
“Just as planned. This proves that with enough imagination, Summoning Skill users can use all kinds of magic.”
“Prince Rufus, that was brilliant. To think that Summoning Skills held such potential… I, Selvus, am truly in awe.”
“I-I feel the same way as the Vice Guild Master!”
Selvus and Lala quickly stepped forward, knelt on one knee, and bowed their heads before me. They seemed genuinely moved.
I think I understood how they felt.
Until now, the types of magical creatures they could summon were limited. And the commands they could give were probably simple—things like bite, poke, or trip up at best.
With my arrival, Summoning Skill users could now ignite flames as if they were using magic themselves. That realization must have made them start seeing infinite possibilities in the Summoning Skill.
From a *depressing skill* to a *smug-face skill* in an instant.
“Both of you, lift your heads. From now on, you’ll be helping me show the world just how useful Summoning Skills can be.”
“Of course! I will follow you anywhere.”
“I-I’ll do my best!”
Alright, this was coming together nicely. The unity within the Summoning Guild should be stronger than ever now.
This is just the beginning. From here on out, my Summoning Skill will lead me to a fluffy harem domination!
“Alright then, Lala, let’s start by having you summon Bardon for practice.”
In the meantime, I need to summon another magical creature to act as a firestarter. Otherwise, Lala won’t be able to use Fire Magic.
As I was thinking about that, I noticed Lagios and Pii-chan. They had been quiet until now. They were starting to take an interest in our new companion.
“Lagios, Pii-chan, be nice to Cayenne, okay?”
“Cayenne? Could it be… that is *my* name?!”
“Yeah. You don’t like it?”
“Not at all! I am deeply honored. Thank you for bestowing such a fine name upon me!”
Cayenne looked like it was about to cry from happiness. Looks like it really liked the name. Well, of course—it *is* a cool name.
And so, Cayenne the Salamander officially joined the party. Tette-le~! 🎉
