Episode 2: In Other Words, It’s a Super Rare Skill
The Skill Inheritance Ceremony was held in the royal castle. It would be attended by me, the royal family, high-ranking nobles living in the capital, and children of people with official positions. Normally, there are about three participants. But for this occasion, there seem to be more than ten.
So, this is it, right? They must’ve had children to coincide with my birth, right?
They probably think that if they get close to me, as a classmate at the academy, they’ll receive various privileges. Nobles are scary.
My ceremony is scheduled to take place last. Right now, the children are receiving their skills from the Pope sent by the headquarters of the church. Summoning the Pope is no small feat. It seems to clearly reflect the power relationship between the royal family and the church in this country.
“Rufus Eladoria-sama, please come here.”
“Yes.”
Finally, it’s my turn. The tension is at its peak. My stomach hurts.
By the way, there’s no hierarchy when it comes to skills. Any skill can be useful or useless depending on how it is used.
In other words, what matters is the individual’s effort after receiving the skill.
“Please place your hand on this crystal. It’s fine. It will only glow a little.”
“Okay.”
The crystal is about the size of an adult head. I nervously placed my hand on top of it. Then, the crystal glowed brightly for just an instant. It was the same reaction as when the other children received their skills.
Apparently, a strong light wasn’t emitted, and there was no “W-What kind of light is this!?” reaction. Thank goodness. It was normal.
“Rufus-sama has received a skill. It is a Summoning Skill.”
Wow! The hall was filled with murmurs. I’ve never heard of such a skill. Of course, none of the other children who were part of the ceremony inherited the same skill.
And that’s no surprise. There are so many different skills in this world. It’s unlikely that ten people would inherit the same skill.
Still, the fact that the hall murmured means it was probably a rare skill.
Could it be a cheat skill?
As that uneasy thought crossed my mind, my father, the King, stood up from his throne. His golden hair reached down to his chest. It swayed gently.
The King’s sapphire-blue eyes were directed toward me. His eyes… are they shining?
“A Summoning Skill, huh. Quite an interesting skill you’ve received. That skill is possessed by only a few people in the country. And even now, we still don’t fully understand what kind of skill it is.”
The King said with a smile. Thank goodness. I’m not being told, “What kind of useless skill is that?” and getting exiled. Rather, I feel like the King’s eyes are full of curiosity. Either way, it seems the Skill Inheritance Ceremony has ended without any problems. What a relief.
“Hmm, this is a perfect opportunity. I will appoint Rufus as the Guild Master of the Summoning Guild. Rufus, your mission is to unravel the mystery of the Summoning Skill.”
Huh? What is Father saying all of a sudden? That’s not a position for a seven-year-old who just received a skill!
The King chuckled. It was probably amusing to see my surprised face. What kind of expression should I have in a situation like this?
I looked toward Leonard-onii-sama and Gilliam-onii-sama to seek help. But both of them were smiling wryly.
Apparently, they too were given similarly unreasonable tasks when it was their turn.
So this is Father’s way, huh!
“Don’t make that face. There are only two people in this country who belong to the Summoning Guild. With Rufus included, there will be three. Both of them work here at the royal castle, so you should go greet them later.”
Father was still grinning. He concluded with that statement.
It seems I’m being tested. To avoid being branded as incompetent and thrown out of the castle, I’ll have to show that I can do something.
“I am truly grateful for the appointment as Guild Master. I will go greet them immediately.”
“Rufus, you’re so stiff. If you keep that up, you won’t last long. How did you end up like this?”
“……….”
Father was sighing. I’m sorry for being so stiff. But don’t you think it’s a bit much to tell me to “take it easy” in such a public place? Just so you know, if Mother gets mad later, it’s not my fault.
When I glanced at Mother, her long silver hair with gentle waves swayed back and forth. She held a fan to her mouth and furrowed her brow. Her sapphire-blue eyes were fixed on the King. I have a feeling I’ll be getting a lecture from Mother later.

After successfully completing the Skill Inheritance Ceremony, I immediately headed to the Summoning Guild. I was guided by a servant to a place I had never been to before.
Honestly, this castle is just too huge. Even if the entire royal family were present, there’s no need for this much space.
I understand it’s probably to maintain the dignity of the royal family. But they should consider how it feels to be a seven-year-old moving through this enormous castle.
Now that this has happened, I’ll summon an animal to act as my transportation using this so-called Summoning Skill.
Although, it’s possible that the “Summoning Skill” I’m imagining might not be the same thing at all.
I think that by using the Summoning Skill, I’ll be able to call forth fluffy companions. But what if it’s not that, and I end up summoning suspicious creatures from the demon world?
Like, a skill that summons gargoyles, ahriman, or imps by chanting something like “Eroimu Essaimu”?
(Note:”Eroimu Essaimu” (エロイムエッサイム) is a phrase commonly associated with magical incantations in Japanese pop culture, particularly in works involving summoning, witchcraft, or the occult. Its origins can be traced back to real-world esotericism and ceremonial magic.)
No, no! I want cute kitties, puppies, and fluffy creatures! Fluffy creatures, give them to me!
“Rufus-sama, this is the Summoning Guild.”
“Huh! When did… Tha—…..alright, I can go on from here.”
Phew, that was close. I almost said “Thank you.” It’s apparently forbidden for royalty to say things like that to commoners, or so they say. I don’t get it.
Why can’t I just say “thank you”? I’m human too!
