Episode 40: In Other Words, It Means the Grass Will Grow
“Balt, Ray, I was thinking of using that area over there. Is that alright?”
I pointed to the empty space in the courtyard. It was a small area, but it seemed like it was reserved for some purpose. It was a bit like a vacant plot.
If I try Moguran’s power here, it might be fine. If I were to alter a garden along the road leading to the castle, it could attract attention. But this place is only for the royal family. So even if I do something here, it shouldn’t be a problem.
“That’s fine. But considering the worst-case scenario, wouldn’t it be better to consult with His Majesty the King?”
“With His Majesty? Hmm, that might be the best. But he seemed busy during lunch. It feels a bit wrong to bother him over something so trivial. How about a report after it’s done?”
“If Rufus-sama is fine with that, then I suppose so…”
Alright, both of them gave their approval. So I’ll go ahead and try to unlock Moguran’s hidden abilities. Not that I know if there’s such a thing.
“I’m going to make a flower bed in that spot. Moguran, can you do that?”
“Of course. Director, what kind of flower bed do you want?”
“What kind? Well, since we’re making it, let’s make a flower bed with rare plants. Plants that aren’t already blooming here—make a flower bed with those.”
“Leave it to me.”
Moguran started tilling the soil in the garden using its long claws. It looked quite happy.
Its glossy, dark brown fur looks very pleasant to touch. I’ll praise it and pet it once it’s done. I’ve decided.
“Master, is it really alright to make Moguran do such a thing?”
“Why?”
“Lagios is worried that Young Master might cause trouble again. I, too, share the same concern.”
“Hey, don’t say I’m like a ‘walking problem child”. That’s only Brother Leonard, alright?”
Messing with the corner of the garden shouldn’t be a problem. After all, my mother sometimes works on this garden too. If I’m not allowed to do it, she wouldn’t be either.
While I was thinking this, Moguran had already created the flower bed.
No, it looks professional. Where did it get those bricks that surround the flower bed? Since it can manipulate soil, did it just pull them from the earth?
The completed flower bed was filled with rich, dark, fluffy soil. Just by looking at it, I could tell it was very fertile.
“It’s done.”
“Wow, Moguran, you’re faster than the gardeners. This is incredible.”
This is something I can’t show to the gardeners. If they saw this, they’d probably lose all confidence. They’d probably say, “Why not just have Moguran do it all?” No doubt about it.
Right now, there are no plants growing in the bed. It looks a bit barren. But something will grow in the future. I’m looking forward to that day.
“Director, I need water.”
“Water, huh? Lagios, can you bring some?”
“Of course. This entire area will be flooded, though. Is that okay?”
“That’s not good.”
Should I ask Balt and Ray? They can use Life Magic, so watering plants should be no problem for them.
But wait, if I ask them, I’ll feel like I’m losing.
This is where my Summoning Skills come in. I can summon a magical creature that can use water-related magic. I’m glad I have the Summoning Skill.
“Rufus-sama, we can…”
“Heh, that won’t be necessary.”
“Oh, uh…”
Balt and Ray were panicking. They probably thought I was about to mess something up again. How rude. I’m not the type of person who repeats the same mistakes over and over, unlike Brother Leonard!
“In the name of Rufus Eladoria, I command you—manifest, Undine!”
“You called, Master?”
The creature that appeared was a translucent, light blue Slime. Right now, it’s shaped like a small girl. But its original form is probably more like a water dumpling.
It must have taken that form to avoid surprising me.
By the way, while there are Slimes in this world, they aren’t water dumpling-shaped. Instead, they look like puddles of water after rain. To me, they seem more like amoebas than Slimes.
“Undine, please water just this flower bed. Don’t flood the area around it, okay?”
That probably won’t happen. But just to be sure, I’ll say it anyway. It seems like that’s what happened when I asked Lagios.
It seems that powerful magical creatures struggle with fine-tuned magic. I’ll need to make sure I use them appropriately for different situations.
In other words, it’s about using the right tool for the job.
“Understood.”
Undine released a fine spray of water from both of her hands, like a shower. The water gently dampened the rich, fluffy soil. And in no time, the watering was complete. Impressive.
“Thanks. You did well. Um, *Aqua*.”
“Something like this is nothing at all.”
Aqua responded with great politeness. It seems like she’s well-mannered. Compared to her, maybe Tia is a bit more rough around the edges. Of course, if I said that in front of her, I’d probably get scolded.
“Master, look. The grass is starting to grow.”
“What? No way.”
When I shifted my gaze from Aqua to the flower bed, green sprouts were already poking out of the soil.
That’s fast, isn’t it? I wonder if this is also due to Moguran’s abilities.
As I stood there, arms crossed and scratching my head, the plants kept growing larger and larger.
“Wait, is this bad?!”
“I told you so. But I won’t take responsibility.”
“Hey, Lagios, that’s—”
For now, I have to calm down and suck it up. Still, how far are these plants going to grow? And of course, as expected, they’re all plants I’ve never seen before.
