Episode 43: In Other Words, I Take After Father
“What do we do?”
“What do we do? Brother Gilliam, please handle this.”
I smoothly redirected Brother Leonard’s question straight to Brother Gilliam. As the eldest son of House Eladoria, he would surely find a way out of this.
“Rufus, can’t you summon a magical creature that can manipulate memories?”
“…….…That’s a crime, isn’t it?”
It seemed Brother Gilliam, overwhelmed by the situation, just wanted to erase the entire incident from existence.
But altering someone’s memory would definitely be illegal. Not that I even knew if such a skill existed in the first place.
“Yeah, that would be bad, huh? Well, there’s no choice but to wait until Mother wakes up. Fortunately, His Majesty the King won’t be joining us for dinner tonight, so—”
“Is there something about me?”
“Gah! Your Majesty?!”
“What’s with that reaction?”
The sudden arrival must have caught Brother Gilliam completely off guard. He even blurted out a phrase he would never normally use. I felt bad—we had just dumped the whole mess on him.
Noticing the unconscious Queen, His Majesty’s expression darkened.
“Milia!? What happened? Wait… could it be that unfamiliar magical creature?”
Then, His Majesty turned to me. He let out a weary sigh.
“Rufus, no matter how many times I tell you, you never listen. When did you become such a— Oh, wait. Hold on. I’m not angry, alright?”
Moguran had raised both of its claws in front of its body. It was ready to fight.
But honestly, Father, you’re one to talk.
You repeat the same behavior all the time too. The fact that I keep making the same mistakes is undoubtedly because I inherited your bl00d.
“Umm……”
“Am I wrong, Gilliam? If not, then why is Milia unconscious?”
Even if we tried to blame Moguran, we knew Mother would wake up and overturn everything. Brother Gilliam seemed to understand this too. So, the three of us decided to confess everything.
His Majesty was a devoted husband—one of the highest levels of devoted husbands, in fact. Even if he was completely under Mother’s control, he didn’t seem to mind. In fact, he might even enjoy it a little too much. What a… unique preference.
Before things got any more complicated, we explained everything in detail.
“World Tree Leaf, Enlightenment Herb, Platinum Sonia, Wild Sora, Revival Herb… I’ve only heard rumors of some of these. And some names I don’t recognize at all.”
“I’ve only ever heard of the World Tree Leaves. How much would they sell for?”
“Leonard, you sound just like Rufus. We’re not selling them. That would be a waste. If we miss this chance, who knows when we’ll get them again…….… Wait. With Rufus around, we could get them anytime?”
The three of them turned their gazes toward me.
They weren’t wrong. These extremely rare materials were now ridiculously easy to obtain. Mother had likely realized this too. Which was probably why she fainted.
If something rare could be acquired at any time, it was no longer rare. Its market value would plummet, causing chaos in the economy.
The turmoil would spread through the country. It would affect other nations and continents as well.
That would be very bad.
The sheer scale of the problem made me feel lightheaded—I almost wanted to faint myself.
“I can get them anytime, but I’m never doing it again, okay?”
“Hmm, you say that, but if we can always have high-quality magical potions in emergencies, it would be foolish not to take advantage of it.”
“Don’t even think about it. No matter how much you try to keep it a secret, rumors will spread eventually. And once that happens, it’ll be beyond our control.”
“Mother!”
It seemed Mother had regained consciousness.
As expected, this whole ordeal had been nerve-wracking. What a relief.
And it wasn’t just me—His Majesty and my brothers also looked visibly more at ease.
“I’m glad you’re awake, Mother. I’ve already explained everything to His Majesty.”
“Mother, dinner has been served. Let’s all eat together.”
“Your Majesty, I heard from Brother Gilliam that you were supposed to have dinner separately.”
“That was the plan. But after everything that happened today, I had it rescheduled for another day.”
His Majesty the King let out a hearty laugh.
He had probably come to the dining room to lighten the mood. But it was only to be met with this situation. No wonder he could only manage a dry chuckle.
Well, there was nothing else to do. So I just laughed along with him.
“Rufus, I heard you summoned another new magical creature?”
“Yes, I summoned an Undine to water the flower beds. It’s a water-based creature—a light blue Slime.”
“A Slime?!”
Mother let out a startled scream.
Uh-oh. If this keeps up, Aqua is going to be completely misunderstood. I need to clear this up quickly.
“It’s not a monster-type Slime, I assure you. It’s round and bouncy, almost like a soap bubble—a magical creature that looks very gentle.”
“A soap bubble, huh…? Give me a moment to collect myself.”
“Of course, Mother.”
Alright! Looks like I avoided making her faint this time.
Good thing I didn’t summon Aqua right away—I must be growing as a person.
During dinner, Brother Gilliam explained what kind of magic potions could be made from the rare ingredients we had found earlier.
The way he was explaining things, his eyes were practically sparkling. It was obvious—he fully intended to make them soon.
The rest of the family must have picked up on it too, and no one even tried to stop him.
Seriously, Brother Gilliam knows so much.
…………….…Wait, don’t tell me he’s planning to brew them himself?
No matter how talented he is, that seems a bit much, doesn’t it?
