Episode 54: In Other Words, My Love for Robots Is Too Strong
The head chef was sweating nervously as he watched me. I was deeply contemplating the concept of barbecue. He might have thought he made me upset. I hurriedly reassured him.
“It’s nothing. More importantly, are there dishes that you cook on a metal griddle?”
“A metal griddle? Well, we do use them to bake cookies and other pastries.”
Hmm, it seems they don’t use griddles for grilling meat. I thought we could at least do indoor grilling.
But maybe that makes sense. They don’t have electric appliances like hot plates. In the age of ancient people, maybe they had something similar in the form of magical tools.
Pastries, huh? Now that I think about it, there are still very few sweets in this world. Basically, just cookies and cakes. On Earth, there were so many more: pudding, cream puffs, chocolate, anpan, jelly, yokan, and ice cream.
Why don’t those exist in this world? I wonder if they existed in the era of the super ancient civilization. Ah, just imagining them makes me crave them even more.
If only I knew how to make them… but I have no idea about the recipes. I really should have learned some baking skills when I had the chance.
“Master, cheer up! You have us, don’t you?”
“Lagios…”
“Exactly! We are by your side…”
“Um, Your Highness, the Third Prince, I’m very sorry. But bringing animals into the kitchen is a bit…”
The head chef hesitantly spoke up. Startled, I looked around and noticed the other cooks were watching me nervously.
I totally forgot. The kitchen is a sacred place to the chefs. If the royal family were to get food poisoning, it would be disastrous. They could lose their heads. Naturally, anything that could compromise hygiene is strictly forbidden.
“My bad, that was careless of me. Thanks for answering my questions.”
“N-Not at all… there’s no need to apologize…”
The head chef seemed flustered at being apologized to by a royal. But, I was the one at fault. It’s only right to show some sincerity. After apologizing properly, I quickly left the kitchen.
“Ah, I wish I had some cooking skills…”
“What’s wrong all of a sudden, Darling?”
Back at the Summoning Guild, I slumped over a table. Tia started poking my cheek. And then Aqua imitated her, poking my other cheek. Stop it. Don’t copy Tia. You’ll end up as mischievous as she is.
“What happened?”
“It seems Master is upset because he can’t eat what he wants.”
“An empty stomach weakens even the strongest warrior.”
“Pii-chan! If it doesn’t exist, just make it!”
“Chun-chun!”
Well, yeah. But the problem is I don’t have the skills to make it. Just like I can’t use magic………..
Huh? Just like I can’t use magic?
“Heh heh heh, that’s right! If I can’t make it myself, I just need someone else to make it for me! With imagination, anything is possible. That’s the true power of Summoning Skills!”
“Um, Lagios, shouldn’t you stop Darling?”
“Tia, I think it’s already too late…”
I heard Tia and Lagios sigh in exasperation. But I ignored them. I’m going to do this. I’ll recreate the nostalgic foods of Earth in this world.
Come forth, kings of confectionery!
“In the name of Rufus Eladoria, I command you—manifest, Tetsujin Chef!”
(Note:
Tetsujin Chef in Dungeon Rampage. Idk if this is the right reference but the literal translation of the word is “Iron Chef”. There’s also a Japanese TV show with that name.)
“Ma!”
“Ah! A golem!”
“This is no ordinary golem. It’s an Iron Golem!”
As light radiated from my body, the Tetsujin Chef appeared. Both Lala and Selvus, who were watching, took a big step back.
They look really shocked. Maybe I should’ve made it look more humanoid, like an android. But then my family might get the wrong idea…
Just as Selvus described, it looked like a metal tin robot. With four arms, it’s no wonder they were surprised.
However, in this world, the only golems that exist are Stone Golems. Iron Golems don’t exist. Maybe the concept of them exists. But no one has ever seen or encountered one.
“Your name is *Tetsujin*. Tetsujin, can you try making pudding first?”
“Ma? Ma, ma.”
When I said that, it shook its head from side to side. Then, it suddenly started writing on a piece of paper. In hindsight, I should have made it able to speak.
In other words, my love for robots was too strong.
Let’s see… It says, “There are no ingredients or cooking utensils.”
Yeah, that’s true. There’s no way to make anything without ingredients or tools. The paper listed the necessary ingredients for making pudding. So I asked Ray to go get them.
If I went myself, it would cause another commotion. Ray should be able to handle it smoothly.
The other thing needed is cooking equipment. For that, I’ll need to unleash the power of the sealed items. When I looked over at Tora-chan, it tilted slightly. It was probably trying to tilt its head in curiosity. So cute.
“Does Tora-chan have an oven inside?”
“An oven………. No, I don’t have that.”
“Then, do you have any cooking equipment that can steam-bake using heated air or something with a heat source inside a box?”
“Hmm, yes, I do have something like that. It’s called a ‘Heating Cooker’.”
“Okay, then. Please bring that out.”
With a thumbs up, I made my request. And Tora-chan took it out from inside. It looked exactly like an oven. It was quite large, so it seemed capable of roasting a whole chicken. Naturally, it could also grill salmon.
I asked Balt to place it on the table. He looked like he wanted to say something but swallowed his words with great effort.
