Episode 57: In Other Words, It Totally Looks Like a Refrigerator
“No way, magical creatures eating food? This is a major discovery!”
“I wonder if the magical creatures I summon would eat as well?”
Selvus was excitedly observing Lagios and the others, while Lala looked at them longingly. She was seemingly interested in feeding them herself. But alas, her mug was already empty. What a pity.
“I’m not sure if the magical creatures summoned by you and Lala would eat. I get the feeling they’re different from the ones I summon.”
“I think so too. Somehow, it feels like the magical creatures we summon don’t have a heart.”
No heart, huh? Maybe that’s why the creatures they summon don’t seem to act independently. We might need to find a way to give them a heart.
It shouldn’t be a special ability unique to me, since my skill is the same as theirs.
“There’s definitely a way to give them a heart. For some reason, I seem to be able to do it naturally, though.”
“I see… giving a magical creature a heart. I never thought about that before.”
“That might be the key.”
“Giving them a heart…….. that sounds difficult.”
Lala’s mindset might be holding her back. Summoning magical creatures relies heavily on imagination. If you go into it thinking “it’s difficult,” it’s highly likely to become just that.
There’s only one way to fix this: confidence. You have to believe, “I can do it, absolutely.” And to build that confidence, they’ll have to keep practicing summoning creatures.
“Let’s practice a lot. If you keep at it, you’ll definitely get the hang of it. After all, you’ve got someone who’s already succeeded right here.”
“Indeed. Prince Rufus is the hope of all of us who possess Summoning Skills.”
“I’ll do my best!”
Both of them knelt before me.
No, no, that’s not necessary. Can’t we just say, “Let’s all do our best together”?
I guess my status as the third prince is creating a wall between us. That’s something even I can’t easily change.
And it’s not like time will fix it either. For now, I’ll just have to accept the situation.
I also wish Balt and Ray would be more at ease around me. But maybe that’s too much to ask?
Huh? Ray is staring at his mug.
“Ray, what’s wrong?”
“Ah, no, um… the pudding was so delicious, so…”
“You’re thinking, ‘I wish I could have more,’ aren’t you?”
“Not exactly… um…”
Oh, Ray, you’re so bad at being honest. There are still ingredients left for more pudding. I might as well ask Tetsujin to make another batch since I could go for another one myself.
Any leftover pudding can be covered and stored in the refrigerator.
“Tetsujin, can you make another batch of pudding?”
“Ma!”
“Rufus-sama…”
Ray’s voice was trembling.
Come on, Ray, you’re ruining your cool image. Lala’s giving you a weird look. She’s seen so many disappointing sides of these handsome guys that she might start losing faith in people soon. I better keep an eye on that.
“Tora-chan, could you get me a refrigerator?”
“Um, I don’t have any magic tools by that name.”
“Oh.”
Looks like there’s no “refrigerator” here. It’s probably called something else. In that case…
“Do you have any magic tools that make the inside of a container cold?”
“Yes, I do. There’s a big one and a small one. Which would you like?”
“I’ll take the small one, please.”
From Tora-chan came a white box. No matter how you looked at it, it was a refrigerator. I wonder what would have happened if I’d asked for the big one.
“Tora-chan, what’s this magic tool called?”
“It’s called a ‘Small Ice Room’.”
“I see. So if I had asked for the bigger one, an Ice Room would have appeared.”
“Yes, that’s right.”
I was glad I asked for the smaller one. I’d narrowly avoided having a room-sized Ice Room pop up in here. That would have been a huge inconvenience.
“Balt, Ray, could you move this Small Ice Room to the corner of that room over there?”
“Understood.”
While Balt and Ray moved the Small Ice Room—which looked just like a refrigerator—Tetsujin steadily continued producing puddings. It seemed Tetsujin understood my intentions. Because instead of just making enough for everyone like before, it was producing as much as possible.
Good thing Tora-chan was stocked with plenty of dishes. They were all types I didn’t usually see at mealtime. But to me, they were quite familiar.
This super ancient civilization feels oddly similar to the Earth I lived on.
Before long, a decent number of puddings were ready. Of course, I shared them with everyone who wanted some.
Selvus seemed eager to take some home for his grandchildren, so I let him.
“Thank you so much, Prince Rufus. My grandchildren will surely be delighted.”
“No problem. You’ve always been a great help to me, Selvus. You can keep the mug, too.”
“Such generosity… I’ll make it a family heirloom.”
Selvus bowed deeply. A family heirloom? It’s just a mug, you know? Tora-chan could easily produce an endless supply of them.
Oh, Lala’s looking at the mugs longingly, too.
“Lala, and you too, Balt and Ray. If you want, you can take the mugs home.”
“Really?!”
“I… I can’t believe it… Thank you so much.”
“I’ll make it a family heirloom… Ugh…”
As expected, Ray planned to make his a family heirloom. I kind of saw that coming, though. I wonder if that’s really okay? Well, I suppose it is………. probably.
