Episode 6: In Other Words, I Overdid It
Now, what to do? The Bardon I summoned has started talking. Judging by Selvus and Lala’s reactions, it seems that magical creatures speaking is a no-go.
Talking magical creatures are out. But hey, it’s just one strike so far.
“Bardon, looking forward to working with you!”
“Pii-chan! Pii-chan!”
Bardon stubbornly insisted that it was Pii-chan. Apparently, my overactive imagination had seeped through too strongly. How did it come to this?
……………Wait a minute. If I can summon something based on a strong enough image, does that mean I might be able to summon creatures not included in the magical creature guidebook?
As the saying goes, if today’s the best day to act, every other day is the worst day. Some gluttonous hero said that once, and I wholeheartedly agree.
If you don’t take a step forward when the idea strikes, you’ll never make progress. There’s no such thing as a “perfect day” to start something; it won’t come knocking at your door.
Besides, I have a mission from my father: to uncover the mysteries of the Summoning Skill. In other words, no matter what happens, I can always say, “It’s my royal duty, as assigned by the king!”
That’s amazing. Did Father anticipate all of this when he appointed me as the Guild Master of the Summoning Guild? Thank you, Father. Truly, thank you.
Now then, let’s get to fulfilling my mission. Today’s question: “Can anything be summoned as a magical creature if you imagine it strongly enough?”
If this works, summoners will be unstoppable! The skill will go from being a dud to an instant god-tier ability.
I’m doing this—for the future of the Summoning Skill, and for the Summoning Guild itself!
“Um, Prince Rufus?”
“Selvus, Lala, let me show you something cool.”
“Huh?”
“What exactly…?”
I flashed them a confident grin. I’d always wanted to do this. Sure, it might sound like something out of a middle schooler’s fantasies. But deep down, everyone—regardless of gender—has wanted to say these words at least once.
Naturally, I’m no exception. I’ve got to say it, even if it ends in failure. As a seven-year-old, I’ll get a pass. It’s now or never.
As long as there’s a chance to summon something fluffy, I’m not giving up.
I can do this. I know I can. It’s just a matter of mindset. Stronger imagery—come on! Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Rufus Eladoria is a determined boy!
“Come forth, my servant! Red-Eyed White Feather Dragon!”
Brilliant light burst from my body. Whoa, it’s bright—no, blinding! It felt like a miniature sun had appeared in the room.
“Pii-chan!”
“Prince Rufus!”
Suddenly, my legs gave out. It felt like all my magical energy had been drained. That must’ve been one heck of a servant I just summoned. It seems I may have overdone it. Oopsie. My bad.
Balt and Ray had been blending into the background like wallflowers. They rushed to my side in the blinding light. The fact that they managed to navigate through it—wow, their spatial awareness is next level.
“Ah… Ahhh…”
“Wh-what… Ah…”
Selvus and Lala were groaning in disbelief. In front of them, the light emanating from my body began to coalesce in the middle of the room. It was gradually forming a shape.
However, it seemed the room was far too small. The light couldn’t fully settle. And now it was crammed in, packed to the brim. Too crowded!
And just like that, the White Feather Dragon materialized, filling the entire room. Its eyes, of course, glowed red—exactly as I’d imagined. It was fluffy and fuzzy to perfection.
The only miscalculation? It was way too big. No way I could keep this thing in a room. I’ve got to figure something out.
“Um, it’s a bit cramped. Mind if I break through the wall?”
“No! Absolutely not! If you do that, my allowance will be gone!”
“Prince Rufus, this is no time to be talking about allowances! What are you going to do about this?!”
“Calm down, Balt. I have a good idea.”
Everyone’s attention turned to me. Lala, however, was on the verge of tears. She was clearly overwhelmed by the sudden appearance of the enormous white dragon. Somehow, it made me feel like I’d done something terrible to her. That’s not the case……….. right?
No, focus.
“Hey, can’t you make yourself smaller?”
“That’s what humans call ‘passing the buck’.”
The Red-Eyed White Feather Dragon responded bluntly. Come on, can’t you do something? I fixed it with my best pleading gaze.
With a big sigh, the dragon relented. Looks like the heart-melting plea of an innocent seven-year-old worked.
“Very well, give me a name. Once I have a name, I’ll become your personal Red-Eyed White Feather Dragon. Then, I’ll probably be able to adjust my size at your command. Probably.”
“So, it’s just ‘probably’, huh?”
“Yes. I’ve never done it before, so it’s just ‘probably’.”
In other words, naming the dragon would make it my pet, right? Let’s do it! Actually, please let me do it!
“Alright then, from today on, your name is Lagios. What do you think? Pretty cool, right?”
“It’s an excellent name. From today onward, I shall be known as Lagios. Now then, my master. Please give your command.”
“Lagios, shrink down. About the size of Pii-chan.”
“Pii-chan!”
Oh! Lagios started shrinking! Success! It worked! Now I don’t have to worry about breaking down the walls. Not that I had the courage or strength to do that anyway.
However, there seemed to be a limit to how small Lagios could get. He stopped shrinking at about the size of a puppy.
“It seems this is my limit. I have failed to fully fulfill my master’s command. I shall vanish.”
“Whoa, wait, wait! Puppy size is more than enough. Actually, it’s perfect!”
I desperately stopped Lagios from saying something strange. It seems my servant is a bit too loyal.
……If this is going to happen every time, I’ll have to be careful with my commands. No way am I letting go of such an incredible, fluffy creature!
